Ed reminds us every week, that you have over 200 videos on youtube/podcasts! I noticed your shows are about 1 hour long. So starting this week, I am going to listen to one of your older shows, whenever I have a one hour maintenance chore, like cleaning the whole bathroom, or doing all the laundry, or cleaning out the fridge, or cleaning out the car. I will let your know when I finish all of your programs !!! Your programs are always motivating and calming, and they keep me company, during those boring maintenance tasks.
From Maryland and just visited the last half of April, now in Montana but hope to return home. I had very early responsibilities when I was eight. Mother left us. I devised my own system long before the Slob Sisters, or Fly Lady, using a calendar. Now a senior senior. My friends assume that since my house is always well run, that I love housecleaning. I don’t! I just maintain and stick to my routines. Easier, saves money, less stress in life.
I have a habit that when I have the microwave is on, I empty the dishwasher. I cook oats every morning and have to stand there for 5 mins every morning so that’s enough to empty or load the dishwasher. At lunch or dinner I’ll do the same thing or wipe the counter/sweep the floor while I’m watching something cook. It actually helps me say present and remember I’m cooking as I don’t leave the kitchen.
My rule for myself and my kids was always you only get to own what you can manage. Keep getting rid of stuff until you can manage. Once there, one in, one out.
I have to wait for my water to warm up for dishes. This was my solution: I make coffee (it requires cold water) and then get a load of laundry going (7 people in our house I have to wash a load every day to stay on top) while that’s washing, I clear all the counters and sweep the floor. By then the water is warm (the laundry is in the dryer) and I wash dishes and afterwards have coffee and check emails.
Another Marylander here … happy to hear you were visiting recently. Your channel has been one I’ve watched for years. It keeps me from letting clutter get hold. Thanks Gayle and Ed!
Right now it's the darn back porch that's in need of the most maintenance. It becomes a catch-all for everything that needs to be put somewhere else or taken somewhere else... And it's soooo cluttered. We have a tiny little house. I'll clean up the back porch ASAP.
I have an errands tote that has handles. Anything that needs to leave the house has to fit in there. When it is full (I check it every Thursday) I schedule any errands in there so they don’t overwhelm me. Good luck 😊
@@ArtyAntics With gas prices the way they are and my lack of employment or babysitting help.. It has to wait til the trunk of my car is full and I have at least 5 other things to do in town.
@@SouthernBelleReviews I can relate but more because I hate leaving the house. Having the tote fill up gives me space to avoid the task, but then when full I don’t let myself avoid it and schedule it when Im going to the grocery store or something. I tend to go out once a week for groceries so why not do an errand as well? Like today I needed fruit n veg so I went to the store next to the charity shop instead of my usual store. You can totally do it with some planning!
At some point you're going to get the mail-- I personally just divide in 2 categories = important & non-important, but I leave all to deal w/later when I'm in that frame of mind = on 'to do' list. It always gets taken care of & bills are placed on 'urgent' list = time sensitive.
I have a Dyson cordless = lightweight, no annoying cord, sunctions well & perfect for a studio. Probably need extra battery pack or 2 Dyson 's for larger spaces.😊
Ed, I have an 85 year old neighbor whose grandson put weeds in her compost, and now she can't use the compost because it is full of weed seeds!!! Maybe have a second compost pile that is all weeds, and be careful where you use the compost from that one? 🌾♻️💛🤞🌱
Hi, Marg from the Uk again, I boil the kettle to get hot water to wash up to save running off cold water and save wasting piped gas as all of the water in the pipes was heated water at some time.
Dear Clutter Fairy - you might try buying a fun or prettier vacuum. If you are into whimsy, you could even give your new vacuum a name! LOL (Ours is named Wanda Windy Wagon).
Self propelled vacuum and scented oil dribbled on vac bag make the task more enjoyable.. Does it hurt your back to vacuum? Hips closer to handle…Learned that at a pain clinic. Grocery carts, walkers, pushing wheel chai, broom mop, vacuum.. keeping hips close vs stretching arms out changes posture & pain.. Try it :)💕
That lady downsizing. Pick what you love best put it in your new space. When your new space is filled. Everything else must go. Be creative with storage and go vertically
I don't know about you, but I haven't gotten my hands very dirty when walking the dog, but you could always carry a package of wipes along with your poop bags. 😉

@@TheClutterFairy TY! Garden day for us. It has finally warmed up a little!

I love the idea that your tasks help you stay present and in the kitchen. Clever!

Hi, I put dishes from the drainer away while I wait for the microwave or kettle to boil, Marg in the Uk
Home run! Again! Woot!
I like the game of "100 days of..." Check the days off and create a beautiful energy pattern.
I cleaned out and organized three dresser drawers that housed my miniatures collections.
I love miniatures! I have 3 doll houses and so much excess
Always love your discussions and the hearing Cookie (sp?) meowing in the background.

@@ArtyAntics I'm not the one who shops for groceries and we live in the country so it works way differently for us. Thanks though.

Speaking of Flylady, she has always recommended using a timer too.

I stack clean laundry on my bed so I HAVE to put it away before I can go to bed.
To get mail, carry some wet wipes and use it before picking up the mail. 💖

I'm annoyed we didn't see the third host on the stream. They seemed to have strong opinions on Gail's cleaning routine.
