Hopefully with RFK Jr that will be changing. I remember when we were trying to get labeling on Genetically Modified Foods and millions was spent fighting it! Fortunately food companies heard us and many started labeling their products on their own. When an entity spends that kind of money to fight over something like that, that speaks volumes in my book!
Thankyou for sharing this informative update, Constance. My daughter and I are both interested in the new US company you mentioned to buy chicken from. Thankyou and God bless you!
Perdue Harvestland Boneless skinless chicken breast was one of the first brands I found to have the hemorrhaging issue. Thank you for sharing this important information with us, Constance ❤
Oh my goodness, thank you for that information. I too have had VERY questionable chicken from the store. The food supply, and quality especially meat is so unpredictable in the US. I am patiently waiting for a chicken tractor to raise my own chicken. Love your content. GOD bless
Thank you Constance for the information. I have thought about buying from the supplier you mentioned...pls keep us informed about their meat and if it is good. Also, pls share your journey with the meat birds in the spring.
Thank you for the update. Funny that it is illegal to “electro fish” (so you can catch many fish at once) and yet it is ok for corporations to use essentially the same treatment on chickens. I understand the distance grocery shopping. Cooler bags live in the cars for this reason. We are fortunate to have a mom and pop grocery about 15 miles away, but if you want anything other than the basics it’s 45 minutes or more. Fort Smith is an hour away (we are in OK) and we don’t even make it there often. We make do with the basics and our creativity well. But I sure could go for a good loaf of French bread and some Camembert. lol! When we moved, we wanted quick and easy meals but good food as we were working on getting our homestead started. Meat on the grill and a couple cans of veggies or a salad got to be our go to. Both my husband and I felt so much better. We still have some processed box stuff left, but we are trying to not replace most of them as they are used up.
We had a Mennonite processing plant for butchering chickens about 50 miles from where we live. About 5 years ago, they would butcher the chicken, cryovac it for $1.25 or so. They were inspected and certified. We have had a growing Amish community. Idk if they offer a service like that but at the time it would have been well worth it instead of the way our extended family did it. There was an ER visit over that episode.
I have cut back on meat consumption so that I can afford better product = a local CSA that works with area producers and Wild Pastures (like Good Rancher etc). I fill the gaps with abundant and economical other proteins like fresh eggs from my lovely hens, organic legumes etc. Much better variety that is in itself a healthy "compromise" 🙂
I bought a deep fried chicken sandwich at Bob Evans Restaurant in our area and its was like strings of spaghetti. I could not eat it. I sent a message to their chain. I haven't heard anything yet. I will not buy that ever again. So gross. I got a $20 coupon to order from Butcher block organic meat. They want you to sign up for their boxes. This was a lot of meat for $20. Like $179 worth. Good meat.
Sister you are in my parents neck of the woods, may I suggest a short trip to a store named Squash Blossom on Dora Road in Van Buren. Dry herbs and sweet down home people. You'll find it small but homey!
Since I know you already shop at Azure Standard, you might try their frozen chicken (Mary's brand). We really like it. Also, I get the bulk of my meat from Wild Pastures which is a subscription service and we've been very happy with it.
We also don't buy chicken or much meat at Walmart. Unfortunately, chickens are NOT humanely butchered. We found that out when we took our chickens to a processing facility. When I saw what they did, I cried and said never again. From that time on, we butchered our own chickens.
Yes, I've had a membership with them for a couple years now, but they are pricey for meat. I can get a better "per pound" price through Azure Standard or Good Ranchers.
An improper kill causes the an improper bleed out. The stunning process is very important in poultry processing. I commented on your first video, but keep in mind processing a DOA can also result in blood retention in the meat. Pending the type of inspection the plant uses (HIMP) USDA / Food Safety should have caught this prior to allowing DOAs in the plant or for improperly bled out birds from continuing processing. As I mentioned in the first comment, you need to file a complaint and let them know ASAP. Either way it is an Animal Welfare issue.
Lunchtime was not the right time to watch this video. 🤢 I don't judge you for an off trip to Wal-Mart. We've moved to the boonies (YAY!) And it's Brookshire Brothers or a two hour drive. But everything you've said is exactly why it irks me to have to buy grocery store meats organic or otherwise, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
A lot of the ingredients the US puts in its food are banned here in the UK

Yes. I hope he implements those changes quickly. He really cares.😊@@KDBee-ri5hi
It definitely needs to change. Hope the next 4 yrs, we see less crap in USA food, not just labeling. 😊
Thank you for the update of your research! Who would have thought that was the reason!
Thank you for that. I was wondering what that was about. Good to know!

Thank you for your research & information Constance.
Thank you so much for this information. ❤️
Thanks for the information, thought that it might be the butcher process but thank you for the verification 😊

I am growing out 10 Cornish Cross chickens that hopefully will be processed in December.
Good information Constance! We mostly buy chicken at Aldi’s. For health foods & supplements we like Squash Blossom at Dora, just off I-40 Blessings!

I have to drive to Ft smith as well because it’s the nearest bigger city and I get my organic chicken from farmers market direct.
Oh! I have seen that place, but didn't know what it was
I love that place and they have other organic things they offer from local farmers and local businesses

Growing up in the countryside we used to despatch our own chickens when needed.
It's not difficult and we appreciated our food 😊
We love Good Ranchers chicken and beef. Been buying From them for about 2 years.

Thank you for the update. Local sourced elders meat supply on a budget. Theyll be healthier for it. 😊 ps. Come spring we're raising our own.

Yes! That is what we get normally. The Good Ranchers option (a subscription) is good chicken and seems to be a little bit of a better price/pound.
@ I'll look into that. Thanks!

i ment to get with my x-husband whom is a USDA inspector her in AR; But forgot. Will see what he knows
Friendly reminder. Whom is used when referring to an unknown person. As you know who your ex-husband is, using who is appropriate here. 💛✨
Can you have Thrive Market deliveries?

Interesting. Had no idea they electrocuted chickens!
It's more of a stun, it doesn't kill the bird. They still want it's heart bleeding to pump out the blood.
