    Very impressive video, showcasing our military's prowess. And the authentic Singaporean accented "there's a MG on the 3rd floor." & the accompanying "roger roger roger" takes the cake for me haha

    You can mount even a 120mm cannon on the Terrex.
    Then it'll function as a hybrid tank but speed will be slower due to the weight.

  • @arronlee33

    Yap, Stryker MGS (plus other Stryker variants) has already mounted the Trophy Active Protection System.
    So it has Firepower, Mobility and Protection.

    Your right.
    That's why the Stryker uses the 105mm cannon instead to balance firepower & mobility. :-)

    why no attached armour plates to shield both sides of the armoured vehicle? to facilitate tyres replacement, the armoured plates could be made to life up like a cover over the tyres compartment. just thinking aloud.

    Just a quick few questions.
    Are the Terrex operators (driver and gunners) part of the organic infantry battalion estab or are they seconded from Armour vocation?
    Are Terrex infantry battalion commanders or men trained to drive, operate and service the vehicle, like how Armour Infantry are, or are they simply "passengers" trained to integrate infantry tactics with the vehicle?
    Most infantry camps are to small to store a battalion worth of terrexes in the MT line. Are they stored at some Amour camp?
    All this is very interesting to me! I'm a pre-motorized infanteer. Wish motorization had happened in my time :(

    • @davidngqkalone88
      @davidngqkalone88 9 років тому

      Aurek Besh I was in one of the first few batches where they were 'experimenting' on us back in 2009
      Some battalions, like 5SIR are permanently assigned terrexes. so the driver and gunner are organic to battalion. not so for all the battalions.
      There is no time to cross train you to drive the terrex, but I'm pretty sure it would'nt be difficult to learn how to shoot the weapons or drive it 'off the record', similar to how cross training happens in many battalions.
      The infnatrymen definitely have to help service the vehicle. the driver and gunner cannot handle alone.

    If everything is linked to the battlefield management system, then this system better be well protected from enemy jamming, or else everyone who depend so much on it will be in trouble and confusion.

    A good, effective armoured combat vehicle has the 3 elements of: Firepower, Mobility, and Protection. Both wheeled and tracked vehicles have their pros and cons.

  • @mahlerianvidz
    @mahlerianvidz 11 років тому +5

    The Terrex is a great idea but I see many limitations. The BMS/ACMS isn't as fast as we think, interaction and update takes too long in combat situations. The mounted cameras have blind spots which may allow the enemy to flank. Veh acceleration takes considerable time. Haven't seen it traverse deep waters despite having two propellers. In the event the RCWS jams, the Terrex becomes vulnerable. A-T counter-measures perhaps? But I'm sure the engineers are constantly looking to improve the design.

  • @mahlerianvidz
    @mahlerianvidz 11 років тому

    How does the Terrex compare to the Stryker series of ICVs, 105mm Mobile Gun Systems (MGS), and the 120mm Mortar Carriers? I know they have almost the same remote-controlled weapon station and individually pressurized tires. Apart from these, how much better (or not) is the Terrex?

  • @thewasdkeys
    @thewasdkeys 11 років тому

    the stryker is smaller and its rcws control screen is abit more hi def. the stryker also has a variant with a 30mm cannon...but the terrex is definitely more comfortable, it has foldable safari bed seats compared to the steel bar seats of the stryker, and stronger air con! sporean soldiers will know which vehicle they like more...

    meybe there are fears of entanglement issues? The hydraulics required to lift the sides would increase the cost of the vehicle with not much improves defence. Size would become bigger as well. The wheels are pobably tough enough to handle bullets. any other attacks would probably come from the top or front. Makes changing the wheels alot easier as well which speed is important in such situations

  • @Ask.Ary_
    @Ask.Ary_ 10 років тому +6

    Personally, since the idea behind showcasing all of our capabilities acts as a form of deterrence. It would be freakin' awesome, to see more professional sounding command and control. Or rather, one with more GUSTO! It doesnt mean we have to sound like US soldiers when giving commands, Singaporean sounding yes, but it would help if our troops sound fierce. Like really into the action. Ive seen it in our troops before, during my NSF days, why not in this video? Movements bound to bound and all, looks presentable enough for me, just needs more UMPH in the orders, instructions and interactions within the troopers. That "we got MG on the third floor" really spoiled the video for me. We got the guns and equipment, show the world we do have real men in our Army. Cheers to all current and ex Alpha Wing cadets and instructors. Above beyond as ONE! ALPHA!

    30mm cannon? I think you mean the 105mm MGS variant. The MGS was designed to serve as a light anti-armour vehicle capable of reaching 100km/h. The standard Stryker is still a ICV fitted with a 12.7x99mm MG or a 40x53mm AGL.

    • @tomj2064
      @tomj2064 4 роки тому

      Top Gamers an aircraft carrier serves ONLY offensive purposes. You don’t defend your waters with an aircraft carrier, especially not with Singapore’s smaller waters. That would be a sign of agression toward neighbouring counties, and thus we don’t have it.

    I'm shocked that MINDEF doesn't know the difference between a motorised vs. mechanised infantry unit. 5 SIR is a mechanised infantry battalion as they are transported by armoured transport instead of regular 2/3 tonners. The 2G Army would have been considered motorised, aside from infantry units in Armour units. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanized_infantry en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorized_infantry

  • @SpecJack15
    @SpecJack15 11 років тому

    Ok, but the Stryker is combat proven in Iraq and Afghanistan while the Terrex is just deployed in training exercises. Does the SAF have any MRAP vehicles with V-shaped hulls like the Cougar AFV? The Cougar (either 4x4 or 6x6) has a reputation of surviving a direct hit from a 500lb IED and Explosively-formed Penetrators (EFP) which are the most significant threat posed to infantrymen and ground troops today.

      terencecollects it’s pointless to say there’s a weapon that can counter it because obviously there is. It would survive a nuclear blast either, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t effective. And I doubt the main issue is other armoured vehicles, most likely just infantrymen.

    Add on "armour protection"? I dare not leave my single life to waste, i don't even see a american's reactive armour plating. Trust me, a single RPG shell to the side would destroy/ or almost heavily damaging it. Nice amphibious vehicle, bears resemblance to a american LAV.
    If you do not believe what i said, then i'd love to see if it's a light armored (transport) vehicle OR not. SAF please test it against a browning .50cal or M82 barret.

    • @brandontay2053
      @brandontay2053 5 років тому

      I believe it is able to stop a .50 cal as its armour is built to take .50 and 7.62 shots. (Wikipedia) However, and RPG or 25mm Bushmaster cannon would be able to destroy it easily

      David Ng what about tank equipped with explosive reactive armour? Surely there must be some form of protection on tanks to protect them from Hellfire.
