Black and white video - her choice. The music - her arrangement. English language - already fluent at the age of nine, but it wasn't even her second language. The prize money she got from winning Norway's Got Talent - all given to charity. Number of times she's sung at the Nobel Peace prize - twice. She is quite extraordinary.
Very nice reaction. I guess you don't know why she performs barefoot ? The story is that at the age of6, in the middle east (perhap Tehran ), she and her mother met a homeless girl with no shoes and damaged feet.... Angelina simply gave her her own shoes.... Later, at the age of 9, she wrote up the story from her diary and made a book illustrated by her artist Grandmother Mery: the book was published and that made her the youngest published author in Norway.... Just before the start of Norway's Got Talent, when she was 7, she vowed always to perform barefoot to raise awareness that so many children in the world lack shoes (and other things of course).

Hey great reaction but you have yet to see her when she was small, here she has been singing publicly for three years and won Norway's Got Talent the year before this session. She started NGT at 7 and was missing one of her front teeth. You get to watch it grow back over the four performances on NGT. Granted her vocal quality grows exponentially from her recording "I Who Have Nothing" at six but all the future capabilities are apparent. She also performed on "The View" at age 8 singing "Fly Me to The Moon". Other Angels can explain the no shoes thing as it make me tear up just thinking about it. As I said great reaction and we wait hopefully for many more to come:)
Contrary to what many fans believe (because the initial video had a wrong age indication on its title for most of it existence), she was already early 8 when she recorded I Who Have Nothing. That can be determined by comparing the state of her teeth to known references, like the NGT performances. I explain the is more detail and with still images from several videos in a community post at my channel.
@@most2dot0 Interesting but that does not allow for the fact she had baby teeth at some point. I think her general appearance indicates that she is more likely to be 6 in that early studio performance. It also looks like a very early video for grandma who got better as time progressed. Any way I am not going to argue as I don't have any hard evidence (apart from my eyes) to fall back on. Thanks for the info and I will take it onboard albeit with a pinch of salt.
@@billeaton9562 Sure. But there are (earlier) pictures of her baby teeth as well, and the upper ones look very different. We can see that she lost her upper right central incisor first, but here it is there, while the lateral one next to it is gone. That is only possible if it is the replacement for the baby tooth, because if it would still be the baby one, its neighbour would need to still be there as well
Besides the incredible voice, tone and timing on the notes, an incredible difference compared to most singers is the empathy, whatever Angelina sings conveys the deeper meaning of the lyrics in a unique way that affects the brain, the heart and the soul, excellent reaction...thank you.
Angelina seems to have all the great singers of the past inside her and just picks which one is the best to sing each song, she is truly a wonder.

Charity, she donated the 80,000 dollars she won on Norway’s Got Talent
Angelina Jordan won Norway’s Got Talent at the age of 8 in 2014, the prize for winning was eighty thousand dollars, this money was donated to children’s charities. At age 8 her first charity performance was in Germany to raise money for heart disease. Again, at age 8 she does a telethon for Plan International Children’s Charity. Still at age 8 she performs for Norwegian Sea Rescue Society Charity. On the 12th of Dec still at age 8, she performs at Save The Child Nobel Peace Prize, 4 days later, even though she has a very bad cold, she performs for the Swedish Heroes Foundation against her doctor's orders. At age 10 she performed for the Norwegian Refugee Council Charity. Also age 10 she performed in Seoul in South Korea for Rotary International to raise money for children’s vaccinations. Angelina Jordan comes from a very wealthy family and does need the money, she, and her family want to share her wonderful talent with the world. This is what makes AJ and her family so very special. Angelina knew exactly what the song was about. She’s commented that it was about a dark, obsessive love, almost like voodoo. I’m paraphrasing here but it’s something to that effect. That was her understanding at nine. She was paying homage to SJH, the original composer of this song.
Along with being an obvious musical prodigy, I think AJ possesses a near genius level, if not genius level, intelligence. Couple that with her deep empathy and you have the magic that is AJ. Ask yourself, how many kids chart their life path at age 3 and are still tenaciously pursuing that path 15 years later. That’s Angelina.
To borrow a phrase from the Beatles, following Angelina is indeed a magical, mystery tour, from her first song to her latest you will be shocked and amazed.
You don't even know what kind of fun is in store for you. Angelina is in a class all by her self. She covers songs in such a way that makes you think they are her originals. I think her best cover performances start at 12yrs when she received a kick ass microphone for her birthday. Rhianna's Stay and Lana del Ray's Born To Die and Young And Beautiful, just to name a couple, are my favorites. But there are so many more. That's not even touching on her originals.
Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. A textbook example of how to treat a gifted child.
The story of her bare feet is one of unbelievable commitment and caring. When she was 6 years old, she was traveling in the middle east (her grandmother is Iranian), and she came across a young girl close to her age who was working in the street offering to weigh people with a bathroom scale for money. She had no shoes on her feet and her feet were cracked and in pretty bad shape. They talked for a while and then the little girl mentioned how nice she thought Angelina's shoes were. Angelina asked her if she had any shoes and she said no, so Angelina gave her the shoes off her feet. Angelina asked her what her dreams were and the little girl said she wanted to be a doctor. Angelina told the little girl that she wanted to be a star and sing for the world. The little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day and asked Angelina to not forget about her. Angelina made a promise at that time that any time she sang in public she would sing barefoot to remember this little girl and bring awareness to the suffering of children around the world. To this day, over 11 years later, she has stayed true to that commitment. She remains a very grounded and humble young lady She has spent the past 11 years pouring out her soul and her talent to help people who are not as fortunate as her. She donated much, if not most of her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to children's charities and has performed in benefit concerts across the globe in support of disadvantaged children and other social causes (raising over 20 million Euros).

No Shoes
When AJ was very small, she meets a girl on the Steet in a foreign country that was weighing people with a bathroom scale to make money to buy food, the girl did not have shoes, so Angelina took her shoes off and gave them to her. AJ stated she would not wear shoes while performing until ever shoeless child had shoes to wear. This is clearly NOT the Nina Samone version, which in my opinion is Weak to Jay Hawkins, who wrote it! She, as you see on her cup, has a picture of Screaming Jay Hawkins. This is to honor him ( what 9 year old does that?) There is a video of her at the same time, with most if the same band jamming in Screaming Jay's " Portrait of a Man". She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. Yes, this is a dark song with a mature theme, as is "Gloomy Sunday" by Billie Holiday, which Angelina performed for her audition on Norway's Got Talent at age 7. She has many rare gifts, including understanding emotions at such a young age. While every cover (she doesn't cover songs, she completes them) she has performed is worthy of a reaction, she has told us she has written more than 100 songs and we have been blessed with 12 to date. Angelina wrote new lyrics for two famous songs by Amy Winehouse, "Back to Black" and "Rehab" since it was inappropriate for a preteen to sing the original lyrics. For "Back to Black" Angelina wrote the new lyrics in the 24 hours prior to the recording, then needed just two takes.

It's unreal like her, from a very young person, she choice to use her incredible passion and understanding through music in a splendid way, especially for these legendary songs. She is definitely the only 9-year-old girl who understands and has the courage and the ability to sing this song from Screaming' Jay, so imbued with his power, and reorganize it according to her musical sensibility and vision. Great reaction, Jenna! Angelina based her arrangement on Screamin' Jay Hawkins'(the guy on the candle) 1956 original. Screamin' Jay used to perform as a witch doctor from Western fiction, which took a bit of the edge off the obsessive lyrics. Angelina always performs barefoot because of an experience she had around age 6, when she gave her shoes to a girl in the Middle East who had none. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Many see her as the best young female singer and versatile artist we have today! The entire music industry knows who she is, but she steers at her own pace towards unstoppable success and greatness. She is already an artist for the big occasions with e.g. The new FIFA World Cup's official anthem, in addition to several major performances. Like few artists, she has performed for the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 8 and 17. She is 18 today.

Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz.
Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.

At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on UA-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Why Angelina always performs barefoot
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are.
Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. I liked your reaction to this, I agree, a dark song, but Angelina is into music, and she loved the music behind this classic, and had the lyrics gotten too deep and dark for a nine year old, she would have changed them, as she did with "Back to Black". He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. Dear Lady, she started practicing her craft at around age 3,5. singing for hours almost every. single. day. When age 4 she started visiting the academa for music and performing arts in Oslo for technical advice, not about her singing voice.

Most importantly, you have to realize that Angelina is a child prodigy and a musical genius. Vocal coaches and experts all agree on this and a child at that age who is able to emote such emotional control is totally amazing. It's important to realize that Angelina from a very young age at 2 years old has been influenced strongly by the jazz greats and listening to mentors like Billie Holiday, Etta, James, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and more modern mentors like Amy Winehouse, Adele, Whitney Houston, Nora Jones, and the great Elvis Presley. You'll find that her voice is a combination of all these great voices all put into one and she can pull out any of them and sound just like them at any time during any song that she so desires. Angelina has jazz infused in her DNA and it's so obvious with all her jazz nuances, inflections, rifts and runs, dynamic control, magnificent vibrato, and her natural free-flowing singing that is so jazz oriented. Considering she sang "Gloomy Sunday" and "Shot me down" at age 7-8 in Norway Got Talent, "I put a spell on you" isn't that dark 🤣. I guess it isn't her fault that her beloved blues and jazz vocalists sang dark songs. Anyway, if you listen to her own songs, they aren't dark ("Million Miles" is kind of sad, but not in a bad way), and some of them are quite uplifting and feel good.
She's channeling Screamin' Jay Hawkin's 1956 hit. That's his likeness on the candle at the beginning of the video. This is her arrangement and the note she writes for the music director are "suggestions". Studio musicians call her, "The Boss" because she knows exactly what she wants and how to get it. Her interpretive abilities get overshadowed by her magnificent voice. Thank you for your reaction. Like many fans, I never tire of watching the same performances. BTW, Angelina now 'owns' this song.

This was a tribute to Screamin Jay Hawkins who originally performed this song many many decades ago. She did it as close to his style as she could manage. You should check out the original cos it is weird, to be honest I really prefer Angelina's version, but then I wasn't around when the original was first sung. The guy with the bone through his nose on the candle at the start is Screamin Jay. Angelina also arranged all the music for this version too, at nine, she is so incredibly talented and already spoke several languages, I can barely manage English and it is the only one I know.

Her fans call her The Barefoot Princess. She always performs with no shoes when she sings. Why? The reason is very special. When she was 6 years old, she was traveling with her family in Iran where she met a poor shoeless girl in the streets that was about her age. She made money by weighing people. After speaking with her for a few minutes, Angelina noticed the scars on the girl's feet and asked the girl what her dream is. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor but she couldn't because she had to make money for her family. Angelina did what came natural to her, she gave the little girl her shoes and told her to not give up on her dreams. The girl then asked Angelina what her dreams were, Angelina answered that she wanted to sing for the whole world, and the girl said she would pray for her success. Since then, Angelina has performed barefoot in honor of that little girl and to those who are less fortunate around the world. She keeps this promise to this day. The growl & squeal at 01:44 is the best I've ever heard. It's not stylistic, like many others do, but an accurate expression of frustration. And children can feel very frustrated, but she must have somehow connected it. I can accept her talent, but I cannot understand her understanding.
I can understand your view of the lyrics NOT matching a girl of Angelina's age. Angelina and her mother both pay attention to lyrics and have, on occasion, changed lyrics to songs to make them more age appropriate for her. Her mother advised her to change the lyrics to both Amy Winehouse's songs, "Back to Black' and 'School'(Instead of Rehab). Getting back to this song. I think Angelina took the POV of a 'Lucy' in the Charlie Brown TV specials. Imagine Lucy serenading(DICTATING) to piano player Schroeder. Or how about 'Wednesday' from the Adam's Family, bossing her first boyfriend around. Both represent a bossy and possessive personality over a submissive. It's over the top, but it's just a song, after all. You can also add 'Rudy' from the 'Bill Cosby Show', when she called her young boyfriend 'Bud' even when it wasn't his name.
