I was an auto mechanic professionally for 6 years. I went to school for it and when I got to the field, it was like a Wild West sometimes. Everything your saying is correct. The automotive field is struggling for a lot of reasons. The flat rate system is bs, overall disrespect off the charts, super expensive tools with bs warrenties, managers lying to your face about money, literally crazy co workers, junk aftermarket parts. A good respectful tradesman is worth paying for.

The cheaper quotes usually are people that don’t know, now I do know a lot of businesses in the trades that know less than an average handyman.

How about service call charges that isn't even working? What's up with that?
It’s all about integrity and pride in doing a job correctly! But for most tradesmen it’s about how much can I get away with!

I had A Licensed Electrician rewire My House For A Generator And He Left The Ground 220 Outside Loose That Caused My Microwave To Begin Intermittently Turning On & Off And All The Lights In The House Dimming, TV's , Things Turning Off And On Etc. When I Researched The Issue The Cabinet And Electrical Box Was Fried, Had The Box Not Contained The Arcing My House Would Have Caught Fire. Like You Said If You Want It Done Right You Have To Do It Yourself Because People Have No Clue What They Are Doing These Days, They Just Want Your Money For Their Professionalism! Why I Hired This Guy In The First Place Is Beyond Me Because I Am A Non-Licensed Electro-Mechanical Tech. They Give Licenses To A Monkey If They Make A Few Bucks'

One time we were getting doors installed in the house
Guy came in put the doors in great, but shortly after we needed the house painted and the NEW doors
Painter comes in and while painting the doors he decides to paint the ENTIRE metal lock bit on every newly paid installed door where your not supposed to paint obviously
And then the locks wouldn't even turn because it dried in with the paint! 🤦♂️Absolute Buffoonery lol
