That version was played when he made his first recording in the film Jailhouse rock. When it was played back Elvis said "Do I actually sound like that" meaning he thought he sounded terrible. So he recorded it again but this time he was told to record it the way he felt. He did and well, the rest as they say is history. Just a little bit of "history".
This was ONLY recorded like this to play an amature in the movie. Elvis has MULTIPLE gold records by the time he made jailhouse rock. He even listened to his albums on a $20 record player so he knew exactly what his fans would hear. He had an impeccable ear.
Yes this is the “Amateur” version in the jailhouse rock movie scene where he is practicing it out hence the not so good vocal it’s intentionally bad to fit the scene but the master version is much better as is the version recorded at the Loving You Sessions
It’s from the recording studio scene in the movie Jailhouse Rock. The first take is plain and generic- after Vince hears his playback he puts emotion into the song, makes the song ‘fit him’. The second take sounds more like Elvis. It was my favorite scene in the movie!
