  • The Island of Borneo (the third largest Island in the world) is home to some of the oldest rainforests on the planet with a simply incredible biodiversity. It is home to the oldest rain forests on Earth! Sabah boasts over 200 species of mammal, 450 species of bird, over 8,000 plant species and a myriad of different insects, reptiles and amphibians. With a high level of endemism, many species are found nowhere else on Earth. A host of different primates inhabit Borneo’s rainforests, the two best known being Orangutan and Proboscis and sabah’s birdlife is as spectacular as it is diverse. This is a record of the amazing wildlife we saw on our three week trip.
    In Part 1 we visited Kota Kinabalu, Kinabalu Wetlands, Trus Madi, Trus Madi Entomology Centre & Kinabalu Park. We filmed the incredibly rare and seldom filmed endemic Peacock Pheasant, the spetacular Barred Eagle owl, the rare Blue- Naped Parrot. The endemic Chestnut Hooded Laughing Thrush, Bornean Tree-Pie, Chestnut Crested Yuhina, Crimson Headed Partridge, Red breasted Hill Partridge, Bornean Banded Pitta, Bornean Crested Fireback Pheasant, Bulwers Pheasant, White Crowned Sharma, Bornean Green Magpie, Dusky Munia, Eyebrowed Jungle Flycatcher, Everett's Thrush and the Golden-Naped Barbet, all Endemic to Borneo. Other Endemics include the Raffelisia Keithii, the largest flower in the world, the Bornean Mountain Ground Squirrel, Bornean smooth tailed tree shrew, Tufted Pygmy Squirrel & the Bornean Black Banded Squirrel. In addition we filmed A myriad of other birds, butterflies, moths, beetles and plants. In PART 2 we explore Deramakot Forest Reserve, Sepilok & The Kinabatangan River, and in PART 3 we visit Gamatong Caves and The Danum Valley. ENJOY!!

    Trus Madi Entomology Centre and Kinabalu Park are my favourite places. I saw John Bakar in this video. He is one of the best nature guides of Sabah.

    Beautiful, great shots. The use of the hanging white cloth in front of the lamp during the night in order to easily spot the bugs was genius.

    Kami bisa bertemu satwa liar sekaran butuh 2 sampai 3 jam perjalanan.🤦

    However, it is unfortunate that the forest area is shrinking due to the expansion of agricultural areas, coal mining and so on. as a result, wildlife habitat is shrinking. small communities compete and focus on economic improvement, the rulers focus on maintaining their position, they do not care about the ecosystem, do not care about environmental damage and other environmental issues. they think the planet will continue to survive without the balance of nature. now we are just waiting for the time when ignorance and carelessness destroy civilization.

    What camera do you use?

    • @AWildlifeOdyssey
      @AWildlifeOdyssey  Місяць тому

      Hi, the camera is a Sony FDR-AX700 camcorder. I find it very versatile and light for the type of filming I do. The low light capability is also excellent. I use Edius and DaVinci editing programmes.
      All the best
      Peter

    Hello
    Great filming and super quality shots.
    Also excellent close ups
    Can you tell me which camera you are using?
    Is it the sony FDR AX 700?
    In which format did you shoot HD or 4K?
    Thank you
    Guy

    • @AWildlifeOdyssey
      @AWildlifeOdyssey  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi Guy, yes it was the Sony FDRAX 400 and was shot in 4K. I find this camera ideal with its low light capabilities and size / weight making it very versatile for this sort of filming. Just back from 3 weeks in Costa Rica, with, I hope, some great footage of hummingbirds. Will take a few weeks to edit though!
      Regards
      Peter

      @@AWildlifeOdyssey Thank you
      I am impressed by your close up shots of the birds in particular>
      The 700 has only a 12 time zoom.
      Did you made most shots from bird hides and did you use a tripod?
      Or did you image cropping during editing?
      The close up shots of the insectos are also very impressie. Congratulation.
      A last technical question, what frame rate and schutter speed did you use in 4K?
      Thanks
      Guy

    • @AWildlifeOdyssey
      @AWildlifeOdyssey  2 місяці тому +1

      Guy, nearly all my filming is done using the auto option on the camera. I do use manual in certain situations i.e. filming something in a bush or restricted area when the auto will not necessarily focus on the subject, also in certain light conditions. The recording format is XAVC S 4K 25P 100mps. I use the tripod when ever I can, however in certain cases where it is not possible i.e. in a boat or in the back of a safari truck in Africa I film without the tripod. A few of the birds in Borneo were filmed from a bird hide (Peacock Pheasant, Pitta ect) but in general it is not filmed from a hide. I use Edius and DaVinci for editing, which are both very good programs. All my trips are planned in advance and are 'Taylor Made' which means myself and friend get exclusive use of a truck, boats and a guide that will be with us throughout the trip. This is essential for good unhurried filming.
      All the best
      Peter

      Hi Peter. I carried batteries and transmitter with my camera in my carry on luggage and the drone in my checked luggage. I don’t think they’re fussy unlike Uganda.
