I built my hidden mount for my FJ with a Harbor freight universal winch plate, 25 mins of fabrication and it was ready to go, looks the same as the one in the video. I didn't install the grille , I like to see the cable, and have decent access to the remote connector. I used a warn 8k and a Ramsey fairlead.
Do you have the measurements? I think I'm gonna fab it myself too. I'm poor lol
I really appreciate your UA-cam. I am installing a Vevor winch with a hidden mount and your instructions were invaluable (I think that means very very very valuable). I had my phone next to me the whole time I was removing the grill and number cover.

US-offroad sells a really nice hidden winch mount, that's the one I run on my FJ Cruiser.
Yupper, I also have also installed a US Off Road Winch Box, they make a very heavy duty winch box that sits completely concealed behind the factory bumper with excellent plug and play fit.

I have a hidden mount from another maker and will be installing it and a winch soon. My question is ..... Do you think water might be an issue with the winch mounted low in the FJ? I was going to buy the rough country winch which is rated ip67 BUT i found a Smitty built for a little more money that is ip68 ( it also has a wireless remote)? Do you do water crossings? Any issues for winch?

Hey Mike, great video! I'm looking into doing the same mod, but would want a wireless winch (I know there are kits out there to convert but looking at more factory-equipped). Not sure yet what brand / model, but would want the lightest possible. The question I have is whether any of those winches on the market would fit the Hidden Winch Mount and the FJ OEM valance (with the DIY cut-off). Thanks in advance if you have time to reply!! How do u connect the remote after the bumper is mounted
Its easy to reach and you can see it through the grille. A wireless winch might be nice though.

We checked out the car seat videos of your 4runner and Tacoma. I was wondering if you could possibly do one for your FJ? Those are all three of the vehicles that I am currently looking at.

There's a full playlist that covers everything I've done with the FJ if you want to see more. It is lifted with 295/70/r17 tires and has a hidden winch mount specialist winch mount with a rough country winch - parts are about $800-900 and I installed myself (full tutorial on my channel)

Clean install. Thinking of something similar for my FJ. Maybe I missed it, how do you reach the lever to engage/disengage free spool? Or do you rely on the remote to let line out?
I can reach down behind the grille to adjust the throttle and plug in my remote

I wonder if you could add a lever extender to go through the front of the bumper for the clutch so that if you’re stuck somewhere you don’t have to open your hood to reach down for the clutch lever?
So how do you plug in the remote now that it’s behind the bumper?
Reaching down when the hood is open.. not ideal but it works. A wireless remote would be nice for this setup.

Happy so far but the winch is a tight fit so I'd probably go with a different model if I did it again.
