FARFISA POLYCHROME Analog Synthesizer 1979 | HQ DEMO

- This video shows the Farfisa Polychrome played with a Roland DEP-5 FX processor for delay effects.
The Farfisa Polychrome from 1979 is one of the rarest Farfisa keyboards. It is a flexible string synthesizer / string ensemble with a very characterful, musical sound. Manufactured by Farfisa, Italy.
It has a PERCUSSIVE section, a STRING section, a ENSEMBLE section and a VOCAL CHORUS section. The most sections have VCF cutoff / resonance controls. It has a great phaser (with SPEED, EMPHASIS and TREMOLO controls), a noise generator, single outputs, an external input jack (for external signals, which can be treated with the Polychrome's chorus and phaser) and a lot more... It even has aftertouch! And it's fully polyphonic, too...
The vocal chorus section is also present on the Farfisa Pergamon organ, which came out around the same time.
"Polychrome" simulations for contact which I saw on UA-cam come not even close to the original. I suggest, one of the reasons is, that these programmers never saw the original. How could they be able to produce a simulation? - Наука та технологія
Recorded with one a couple of weeks ago. Stunning machine, absolutely dripping with emotion.
Lovely demo as ever.
Yeah, a gread machine! I should make a new demo of it...
Yeah I’m here because of your Italian synth episode… Really great one btw! I need this thing… That choir sound is heavenly.
Added a Polychrome and Syntorchestra to my studio recently. Amazing units! That Choir sound is to die for.
Oh man, those old Italian sickos. Thank the lord for them. Such awesome keyboards. :) I think it would be better to say that "Argento imaged the films that Farfisa directed." :-P
gorgeous, ethereal, spacey, cosmic.. wonderfulness
this machine boasts sounds that I greatly desire. I MUST have one. My precious...my love...
This ensemble keyboard is the best i've heard so far. It must have been expensive too! It had to compete with the poly-synths that were becoming popular at the time. Ty for sharing !
indeed, it is a fine instrument, but it's technically not really a synthesizer - more organ technology inside. But one of the few instruments, which is moving me really deeply when I play it.
AnalogAudio1 I've listened to this repeatedly since i first heard it . I now think i am in love of this instrument. If ever it stops moving you deeply, can i have it ? It is a thing of beauty. Never let go of it ! Thank you for sharing , man !
Some sounds are ARP quadra-esque, it has a similar (great) phase shifter. Very good. I am italian (Farfisa is Italian) but I've never seen this synth before.
This is otherworldly. What an instrument, holy shaizah!
From 1979? Incredible!
La qualità del suono del suono di questo synth è incredibile!
Very good analog synth!
I come back to this demo and It always gives me goose bumps!
this seems was well ahead of its time - especially the polyphony functions.
This demo is still one of my favorites.
This soul-filled sounding reminds me to the Novachord.
The resemblance of the greatness of the Beginning and the End frames the intermediate events.
Hardly ANY of those old Italian synths (like Farfisa, Siel, Crumar, Elka etc.) were big hits on the international synth-market. The good part about that is that we've never been over-exposed to their sounds. As a result, several of those old Italian synths sound really interesting to modern ears - because they remind us of the old classics (Moog, Oberheim, Arp, Roland, Yamaha, Korg etc.) but with a different twist. Familiar and fresh at the same time!
I like this synth so much
From all your synth demo's, this is my favourite. I just love the sound of the Polychrome! Italian synth's just have so much character.
With the control over the envelopes and filters, it reminds me more of the Polymoog than the Arp/Solina String Ensemble. I suppose its 1979 Arp contemporary would be the Omni-I,
8:30 is one of the most emotional and wonderful sounds I have ever heard, such a beautiful instrument, never ever sell it!
I won't... time for a new demo in 2022 :-)
@@AnalogAudio1 Definetly, can't wait for how you'll make it sing this time :D
@@AnalogAudio1One year later...
Cool synth, Great video!!!
The Vocal Chorus has a very......emotional sound, the String section reminds me the Eminent 310U and the ARP Solina a bit. The percussives are also sounds great. 5* for the video and the synth (also). :)
Blimey, this model should've easily competed with mainstream models like the Omni, Trident, Solina String, Stringz 'n' Thingz, Orchestra and all such models. Matches them feature per feature, and some.
Beautiful instrument. Extremely rare to find too.
This is my favourite AnalogAudio1 demo! I absolutely love the sounds from the Polychrome.
S'funny, I remember at the start of the 80s first getting into synthesizers, string machines were seen very much as the poor relations of "real" synths, but this sounds thoroughly beautiful and really much better on some sounds than polysynths of the day could do. Thank you for this upload, it's lovely to listen to.
This is great. Amazing sounds, and it's so nice to see a demo from somebody who can actually play the machine...
Those choir sounds are sick as well!
Sounds wonderful.
You could make a whole album with this one synth.
Nice!,it has a haunting quality in the sound.
One of the most amazing demos I've heard. Great machine.
The Polychrome seems to be quite similar to the Korg Trident and the Arp Quadra. They are all fantastic sounding machines.
Sweet sounding. Sweet looking. I've owned a Combo Compact Deluxe, but I didn't even know about Farfisa's foray into synths, much less polysynths, but it stands to reason that they would and that they could be perfectly capable of doing so.
I'd love to have one.
At 2:15 the sound is pure magic!
This is a beautiful machine...
Thanks for sharing this awesome rare synth with us. It's probably the closest that we'll ever get to a real one.
Great sounds
about the coolest synth ive heard and ive heard them all- simply amazing!!
Good work and a fantastic and magical gear!
Super sound and effects.Greath instrument, realy amazing.
3:42 sounds awesome, one of coolest sounds and rhythms ive heard.
@NewShimmer The Arp Quadra was manufactured only in 1978 I believe, and definitely predates this by about a year or so.
LOVE That Heavenly Choir sound! ~
It's really heavy!
BTW That synth just looks and sounds so cool.
Amazing!,I love analog synths,classy!
The delicate nature of some of the sounds going through the phaser section sounds JUST like the swirly intro/outro bits on the original Charlie's Angels episodes. I would bet that this is what was used - such a unique sound, nothing else would have been as good.
Just watched an episode of charlie’s angles and it does sound like it 🎹
Very nice demo and great sound!
Инструмент с аддитивным (гармоническим, регистровым) принципом синтеза. Звук просто великолепный даже по нынешним меркам.
Indeed that is really awesome sounding! A bit like moog opus 3 with after touch on the vcf it appears, plus the percussion stuff. I wonder how many of these were made? Do you know what chips are in it? I'll update my synth tech info on my sounddoctorin page.
I played one of these at the Museo del Synth Marchigiano in Macerata, Italy. It sounds gorgeous. I'd love to compare its vocal section to the Logan Vocalist.
the vocal section sounds much better than the Logan Vocalist. At least to my ears.
Behringer.... you know you want to do it :)
They cloned the Roland VC330 instead. The Behringer VC340. I'm definitely getting one
amazing sound !!!!!!!!
Cool. Thanks for posting.
Every time I heard about String Machines being a replacement for a Mellotron, I'd be confused as I'd never heard one really sound anything close to a 'Tron. This definitely fits that bill. If only my RS 202 could do a 10th of this!!
Amazing sounds, seems to be one of the underated synths. Some sounds remind me to JMJs Concerts in China....
wow... so smooth....
a gem!
so lovely so retro :)
so awesome
lovely!!!
You have all the most interesting synth. I fukin' love it.
Nice video of an rare instrument. I wonder what was better, the Arp Quadra's phaser or the Korg Trident's flanger? I wonder if anyone has both instruments?
Very good macchine!
Definitely used in The Warriors theme. I always imagined that to have been the Prophet 5, until I heard this thing.
Apparently it was a Yamaha CS60 and CS80 that Barry De Vorzon used on The Warriors theme but I can understand why you may think it was the Polychrome.
j' aime bien les sons des farfisa très bon orgues electroniques
very nice
awesome, theres one on ebay right now... its in greece. I would buy it if the shipping wasnt out of this god damn world
@AnalogAudio1 Sorry, I didn't realize that until later. Anyway, great synth. Makes me wonder why Farfisa isn't still in the business.
as rare as hen's teeth, cow eggs, and good girlfriends.Amazing sounds. I love these much overlooed synths. I want one.
EXCELENTE , MUITO BOM ! SE AQUI NO BRASIL
TIVESSE UM TECLADO DESE , EU COMPRARIA 2 PARA FAZER
UM ÓRGÃO . POIS SOU TÉCNICO TRABALHO COM CONSERTO
DE ÓRGÃO ELETRÔNICO AQUI NO BRASIL .
This sound reminds me to Popol vuh's (Aguirre's bso).....cool stuff.
Yes.Popol vuh Aguirre sound track ,there is sound very close from the vocal chorus of the farfisa polychrome.
But Aguirre is a movie from 1972 and the farfisa polychrome appear in 1978/1979 public,so it couldn't be.
And before the polychrome farfisa there was no vocal chorus on farfisa organ.
The sound is so close. But not exactly the same. But never mind.beautiful sounds.
There is one for sale online in the UK for 3400 GBP.I think that's a little over $5000 US.
I LOVE THIS SOUNDS OF 70S 💦😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Me too! Time for a knew demo, I still have this thing :-) will never sell it.
Quando in Italia le cose le sapevamo fare !
Remembers me the ARP Quadra maybe in a more simpler way, but it looks to have a lot of features anyway, chorus, strings, with phasing, nice stuff, funny also this cross harpsi-clavinet things, seems he got a lot hidden. Good analog for sure. Strange we always had fun on Farfisa meaning a cheap stuff, this is really not. Gorgeous
Great old sounding Farfisa, a discovery
markusmala yes, the farfisas are very special instruments, I love them very much.
I miss those sounds with a so large and solid interface
Spooky! I want one
It's so wonderful it's ridiculous.
The string section sounds exactly like my crumar performer.
awesome man, just awesome.... what's the closest you can grt in actual market??
All I can say is I want one :P
I really like this synth...I'm into M83 and that kind of ambient/shoegaze bands. Wich synth should I buy to get this sounds??? I dont want something expensive and complex.
i want one
I just found a mint one in Australia for a mere $120 🤓🤓🤓 it still has the box and manuals and looks like new ... Holy guacamole Batman Theseller said they have had it sitting in there garage for ages and need the space for there new barbecue for summer, how much are they actually worth in mint condition ??? everything works like a dream it's bloody huge and heavy though, but the sounds both dry and through a lexicon reverb are other wordly my friends 😍
Welcome into the Sci-Fi!!
Wow.......
I wish i had it ! I heard the sounds on ,,Warriors´´ and Fulci´s ,,Zombie-Films .And i think John Carpenter had one of these wonderful soulful instruments .
Hi, Do you know where I can find the info for this please? thx
I wonder if this was used on the Song Bodytalk
Seriously. would the only comparable synth be an ARP quadra? this thing is disgustingly sick! It really captures the whole Era and then some. Someone let me know whats comparable because I don't think I've heard all these sounds come from one synth so nicely before.
This synth sounds just like Isao Tomita!
is it hard to find parts for these?? i have a great tech, i want a Polychrome but am worried about what is available in case it breaks.
Sounds like something they would have used on the movie A Clockwork Orange.
I really like it's sound....I wonder if they make a softsynth or vst emulator version of this machine? Anyways, thanks for the video, pretty cool.
very nice sounds to 6'00
I can't believe I never knew about this beautiful machine. This video pisses me off, because now I have to own one.
Instant motherfucking love.
Sya sngat suka sekali farfisa kaybord impian tpi sya bingung untuk mndapatkannya
It sounds totally 70s Italian Horror movie soundtrack!
Hot damn! This sounds better than Moog!
and way more versatile and useable too!
a minimoog is for solo aka rick wakeman [ my hero, though out of fashion now, dont know why, as in my opinion hes allways as good as hes ever been. string machines are a compleatly diferant beast with a diferant function
how much does this thing weight?
Some of the sounds kinda reminds me a Clockwork Orange
Seeing those lights reminds me so much of Kraftwerk...
super
@AnalogAudio1 Robust stuff made to last. :-)
