US Agent’s always been back and forth between a hero and an anti-hero. I’m not too bugged by his progression, in fact it’s far more interesting to have him where he is now than if they had just made him into an Uber-Patriot villain.

@@cretinouscretin9677 I think it kind of depends on what you mean by anti hero. First, almost every hero in the mcu has had anti hero moments. Killing terrorists isn't a bad thing since it's in the service of protecting others, however, the way it was done by US Agent in my opinion would be anti-hero in terms of his motivation for doing so. Also telling them to stay out of their way isn't anti hero, it's just not being a team player. The avengers have also had this going on yet there still hero's. Obviously US Agent is displayed as a flawed and corrupt character that is trying to be a hero, but, I think it's more so his motivations that really define his type of character in this show.

That’s what I love about the Cap franchise. They take most things seriously without depriving them of actual normal human traits, humor being one of them, and they insert jokes as natural as possible while sticking with the more serious tone they’re going for. The airport scene in CW fell flat on this partly due to the inclusion of the more lighthearted characters like Spidey and Ant-Man, the tone suddenly lost its footing from the rest of the movie. But yea overall Cap’s franchise is arguably the most grounded and human collection of stories ever to be told in the MCU

Falcon & Winter Soldier felt like a TV show I would've watched without the MCU connection. The helmet comment from John mad me think of Steve and Tony's exchange in Avengers about crawling over a wire and that he'd just cut the wire. It’s kind of like asking, “You ever eat meat?” and the responder saying “Sure” without thinking of the emotional symbolism that he’s eating creatures that were killed to feed him when he could’ve eaten veggies or something. I don’t think that it proved that he wasn’t fit to being Cap- all the other stuff did, at least for me.

This is like the strangest thing to hold against the man.
The Bucky whose life he save recently, childishly asks if he ever jumped on a grenade. Which by the way Steve never did, but was willing too. Keep that in mind because, he responds yes he has four times. Every single time he selflessly putting his life on the line to save his fellow soldiers, risky a horrible death by shrapnel ripping through his skin, bones and organs. And people twist that against him. Are you kidding me?
If you are wondering if this is a reach, it isn´t just a reach your letting the show and browntable trick you. Don´t let them manipulate you "Do better" - Sam Wilson. Walker was absolutely willing to make the sacrafice four times and only his helmet saved him, if the thing hadn´t held or he messed up the jump in the few seconds he had, his body would have take the shrapnel. And the first time he did it he would have had no idea if the helmet could really stop a grenade, reinforcements or not. Also he didn´t drop 3 aircraftcarriers on a city, how about that? It interesting how Steve is celebrate for being willing to jump on a grenade (which is heroic and he should be respected for, don´t get me wrong) then when Walker does it *four time* people say he is an asshole and then they ignore the horrible thing Steve did.
Watch the show instead of just looking at it. Don´t let these people get away with failing at their craft and telling you they did a fine job.
PS: Sry if I come over agressive but when you see a character do everything right and trying their best and the audience still twists that against them, it makes me want to puke blood. And I fear that if they can´t do this with a fake person where they have objective information, I doubt they can do this in real life.

I feel the same. I enjoyed it and looked forward to every episode but idk why I just wasn't satisfied with the ending. The ending felt rushed and left a lot to be desired. While the final speech by Sam was nice I really don't see how it was gonna help solve the problem - It just felt like pure optimism. And the flag smashers were terrorists by the definition of that word so I don't know why Sam would say they're just putting labels on them.
I didn't really sympathize with anyone from the flag smashers despite the show trying to make me but I did find the cause they fought for to be quite interesting and a natural direction the world building would go in after the blip (but they didn't have a concrete plan till the last episode which is another qualm I have).

I think my problem with the idea of someone like Miles isn't that he's Latino, or black, or whatever, it's that when they had the opportunity to make a new superhero they copy/pasted from someone who's already done the hard work of becoming popular. Spiderman (Peter) has had decades of struggle where he basically got known for have the worst luck and through sheer grit came through in the end. Then Spiderman (Miles) comes along and because he's taking over the name skipping that growing step. Just the fact that I have to delineate which Spiderman I'm talking about takes away from the potential greatness Miles could have had. I feel that same way with Falcon. He was perfectly fine as Falcon, but now he's Captain America (Sam) as opposed to Captain America (Steve). Sure the shield brings with it the mantle, but even so they could have come up with another name. Or just kept him as Falcon. I guess I'm just looking to deeply at the dark and seeing things that aren't there. As he's black I should just be glad he didn't get running or lightning powers.

There’s a difference between “not pulling any punches” and just saying something in a poorly written way. If I say to you, “just write better,” that’s not me “not pulling any punches;” that’s me giving bad criticism.
Regardless of whether or not I agree with the message, I think the “how” something is written matters almost as much as the content. As someone who likes to write and think about how people communicate with each other, I recognize the importance of conveying a message in a way that eliminates as much confusion as possible.
And one other thing. The show wants to make a commentary on how the world treats immigrants and refugees, but I feel like it ignores the four billion people suddenly reappearing after five years. I can empathize with her not feeling wanted anymore, but then she should face the reality that she’s essentially saying to four billion people, “I wish you didn’t exist.”
The show doesn’t address that issue, the fact that the people are only being displaced because billions of people are now alive again, which is an insanely complex situation.

The fact that Marvel wants Spellman to write Cap4 indicates how Marvel is easing the reins & letting them tell the stories we need. It paid to let them explore these difficult but prevalent topics. I'd like the next entry to show the struggles of trying to help everyone, even when there are people in this country that hate him just because he is a Black man & would refuse his help. There's SO much more to explore now & I love that Marvel is letting them tackle these things.

    • @master0fthearts894
      @master0fthearts894 3 роки тому +9

Yeah! Marvel isn’t the perfect organization- They made some “Studio” choices that kept these two shows from reaching their full potential, but they’re getting better at letting creators create, and letting artistic visions go while still making sure that their MCU isn’t just a bunch of indie projects that aren’t connected at all. They’re not at their best, but slowly and steady, they’re improving. I really think that this era is just Marvel improving their craft, and even though I always knew that the MCU would do great, it’s good to know that they’re getting better.
Also, it’s great that the MCU is covering more topics. They covered some stuff, but with WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter soldier, they really get to say a lot. Not all stories need to cover everything, but it’s nice that we are getting more content covering things that are difficult to talk about.
So if I were give this era a title, it would be “The Era Where Marvel goes from Great to Amazing.”

To paraphrase a Japanese video game review: “Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a story about right and wrongs told by people who think they are right.” That is what I adamantly dislike about this show. To it’s lack of understanding on how the world works economically, one example “With one phone call you can feed the world.” Just how naïve are you to think it is that simple? Assassination of characters like Sharon. Alongside its blurred morals like how there is an attempt on Walkers life by the wakandans and he still tries talks it out but the show wants you to believe he is the villain? Even with Sam telling Walker “Good job” sarcastically like he is the one that started the fight.
Don’t even get me started on Karli. Miss “I’ll burn people alive along with a father of two and not feel a hint of regret and do it all again while calling them roadblocks” because she is in the right. The show never shows she feels guilty whatsoever about what she is doing even if what she is doing is monstrous.
This show ultimately fails at what it is trying to say. It’s themes are half baked and window dressing. It tells a story about racism without showing actual racism in it.
At least Zemo came out of this unscathed.

I think you missed the point. In so many ways, a lot of politicians do drag their feet and their bank accounts can assist multiple cities on their own. They choose to find if difficult because they want power and the ability to decide what’s right for everyone else. Also, though I don’t think Karli should have died, making her believe she was right through all of that is pretty standard for murderers and dictators and such. You have to remember, the awful people in this world do not think of themselves as terrible at all. A person who sees their vision alone without accepting any nuance becomes a Karli. I think if it wasn’t a superhero show, the ending would have been a lot different and more honest. But the fact that so many people can’t form an overall consensus on it means they made us think and did something right.

I didn’t have a problem with this show tackling hard themes; I did have a problem with how nonsensical some of the conclusions certain characters drew from their experiences, specifically how they don’t make sense from the current world and character progression we’ve already seen established.
You’re honestly going to tell me that the whole world just fought the most terrifying alien threat anyone has ever seen; and after losing we see the 5 year gap has changed people, in a lot of ways for the better in terms of camaraderie and unity, only for the falcon to get denied a bank loan for his boat? Really?
Not only that, but he also started to fall in line with the narratives that Isaiah more understandably believed in, even though previously he was only ever seen and observed as believing that people are more than one thing, and therefore certainly more than their least interesting defining trait.
This show fell flat, and fell hard for me. Definitely some good moments, which were unfortunately smothered by blatant and pervasive woke culture and hindered by an intellectually dishonest narrative from an out of touch perspective.
Those politicians at the end were right, the situation was way too complicated for the falcon (captain America) to understand, and “do better” isn’t helpful. Hopefully a more realistic version of his character is developed over time, because this was bad.
Liked zemo quite a bit, like US agent’s beginning; I’m aware Covid screwed a lot of pacing things up, so I don’t blame anyone for that really.
Also, the wakandans sure aren’t helping anymore or less than they were at the ending of black panther. Wasn’t that the conclusion to the belief of the wakandans at the end, and also T’chalas mandate to his people as king? Maybe I misunderstood that, not sure.
Anyway, I’m sure I’ll get flak. Hopefully people can understand where I’m coming from. :) Have a blessed day y’all!

I honestly wish they hadn't rewrote it due to the pandemic - the whole part about vaccine equity and borders was exactly what we needed to hear (and STILL need to hear). It would make more sense why she turned violent - does it make it ok? No, of course not. But she's so righteously angry, it clouds her judgment. I adored the therapy sessions with Bucky and Sam, and I do like they addressed the fact that Sharon was left out in the cold because no one bothered to follow up with her. Plus, Zemo in all his villainous dancing glory is gold.

    I'm black
And Seeing myself on the big screen still does mean nothing to me
I don't care wither the charachter is black or white or freakin blue
I didnt care at all or felt any difference seeing "black represention"
The idea didn't even hit me untill i saw people talking about how happy they are with the "represention"
    I don't see colours , i see hearts
The ideals and struggles is still everything to me
I related to a freakin anime Japanese character more than I have ever related to Nick Fury , a black man with one functional eye , just like me
I don't have to see people who looks like me to feel represented!
I need to see people who feels like me , cries like me , struggle like me

If you identify with someone based solely on their skin color, then that's racism. It doesn't make a difference which color it is. MLK would be spinning in his grave if he saw how far our nation has backslid on racial matters.
Browntable openly stating that he identifies with people based on race instead of character, and considering it an evolution in his thinking, is just an example of the rot that has pervaded our culture.

Also if you actually are black, and exist in the same systemic societies the rest of us do, the characters you’ll relate to easier are probably going to be..... But keep being a ‘pick me’ I guess. my favorite Disney+'s MCU show so far.
Malcolm Spellman and Kari Skogland deserve their shots at doing big screen MCU projects.
i even wish Kari had done the Black Widow movie instead of cate "the hack" shortland.
Kari Skogland directing with Joss Whedon writing...man, THAT would've been the Black Widow movie to see.

I think what hit me the most was John’s PTSD. I think he probably could’ve become an ok Captain America, but due to his own trauma he feels the need to go overboard when it comes to protecting people. He’s afraid of loosing the people he loves, yet he keeps loosing them. I really loved John’s character, I thought they did a good job with his story.
It’s funny, Isaiah and John have very similar stories. Both are vets used by their government and when they are no longer useful that same government drops them.
It’s really cool because it has so many layers. Isaiah’s life compared to John’s do have a lot of differences, yet their story as vets just hit me so hard.
Im glad that US agent got to have a cameo at the end. Had he not had the redemption it kinda ruins the point of Isaiah and his story. Overcoming the grief and pain caused by the very people you risked your life and your friends life to fight for.

This video was a fantastic overview of the show and why it was so good. I think a lot of people like to Monday morning quarterback, but you didn't do that. You pointed out what you felt could have been better and explained what made it so great. The fact that you were able to link together Iron Man, Captain America/ Winter Soldier in this show's feel is brilliant. You zeroed in on why those movies resonate hard with me. Because they felt like real people. Finally, your commentary on representation was spot on. I used that I didn't need to see myself on screen. That the journey was of the hero was good enough. That was until I saw a black Allura in Voltron, and then they killed her senselessly. Proper representation matters. Thank you for highlighting that.

It wasn't a redemption arc, it's a reminder that Walker has good in him and "makes the right decisions in the heat of battle." He's always been a good person and we've only seen him at his lowest points. Him dropping the shield represents his refusal of the CA mantle and returning to being himself, a soldier that just wants to save lives. I really like the direction they went with his character and didn't turn him into "captain america but evil" it makes his character as the Everyman that much more compelling

i can understand the criticism regarding the 'don't call them terrorists' line since they did indeed do those things, but, i think it was saved by him saying 'this girl died trying to stop you and no one here has stopped for a second to ask why.'
it was easy to call them terrorists since that was what they probably were, but the government didn't even try to understand why the flag smashers did what they did.
sam saw who they really were while the government just saw the label. maybe sam was just tired of seeing someone who was just fighting for her people to just be seen as the terrorist and nothing else...
love this video, what you said is exactly what i thought and am saying here as well... cap speaks for the people, is the voice for the voiceless...
also loved you acknowledging rep... it's kinda... there's no words for how you feel when you see your culture on screen... ya really just do feel it... so i'm also glad ya gave our boi shang a shout out here heheh.
