  • @JamesWongLife

That montage of your training vs competition at 14 minutes gave me actual goosebumps! Full on anime inspired! I loved that.
I still remember being at the London Art of Motion with my parkour boys and we walked past you by the riverside and my friend and I looked at each other and said "was that Jason Paul?"
The Barclay competition was also the reason I started doing parkour at 21 years old, but it was more because I went to school with Tim and saw him win and I thought "yo if he can get 1st place, I can at least give it a try!"
Just like you, I spent my whole childhood idolising super heros, spiderman and Power Rangers but not actually realising that it was possible for everyday human beings to do this too.
Parkour was the highlight of my 20s and took me around the world, despite being very average at it.
At 35, I don't jump nearly as much as I used to - but the spirit is still in there! I jump and climb with my 2 year old daughter when other dads are sitting by the sides. I even did a sideflip of a floor trampoline at the kids park this morning. And this year I've done two TV commercials with some simple parkour skills.
TLDR: Great video, appreciate the efforts man

Thanks so much for sharing your story and so cool that we crossed paths 😃 I totally get why you would slow down, I feel like once you absorb the parkour spirit it becomes part of your personality and doing it physically is not as important as it was when we learned the philosophy behind it. @@TheJasonPaul Thanks, I've been playing around with it more and more this year... my channel's a martial arts channel, but I've been so into practising parkour, that i'm doing more and more videos combining each lately. :) I'm 39 and have a son to deliver in kindergarden before work and take care of when I come home from work... so sometimes I can integrate it into play with him, and sometimes I'll just stop somewhere for like 5 mins when going from A to B to try something out, so it's a slow process. But it helps that I can sometimes do stuff like that with kids at work as a pegagouge, and that I have that wall at home :p :)

I started in 2010, and seing all these clips reminded me of the competition I was watching online.
Parkour is such a beautiful sport. Even thought I stopped practicing I still cherish it in my hearth and it gave me the discipline and physical ability to start paddling in a dragon boat competitive team, be selected in the national team and win some gold medals last year…and I owe it to this sport and culture (parkour).

I'm impressed man. The bootleg counter strike vids are funny. But you went from looking like one of those kids that will just never get it. Into a fully committed evolution that knew no bounds. I mean, those clips with a cast on your arm are stuff legends are made of. I've always thought you were really good at parkour, since I noticed you sometime around 2012 - 2014. This video says so much about you as a person. Explaining how you lost your training partner and went on alone is comforting to me. I've done A Lot of training by myself over the years. In everything I do not only parkour. My air sense is still underdeveloped.... my rotation game is pretty trash. I'll never give up on it tho. I just have to make time to do more work for it. I've been busy with so much other stuff. I haven't gotten a full month of any kind of training in for a couple of years now. Soon, I'm going to be caught up with the projects I've been devoting the majority of my time to. And then I'll get back to training full time. Even tho my goals are strictly conditioning. No contests or career. Only content. It's guna be awesome. I love the urban ninjas video too. I tried to contact them and move to Canada after I saw it.... felt pretty stupid when I realized it's just 1 of many teams training in a run of the mill facility....lol. I had no idea. What part of your program is focused on air sense and dialing in rotations?

    • @TheJasonPaul
      @TheJasonPaul  6 місяців тому +2

Oh man, thanks for all the kind words and taking the time to write this out of your day :)
lol on the urban ninjas story! I get why you'd think that haha
Excited for you! The return shall be epic. When it comes to air awareness it was mainly repetition for me. Any trick involving rotation is so disorienting at first, but I found with enough repetition it eventually goes away.
The only "hack" I would know is to practice on a trampoline. That way you don't have as much impact, therefore don't get tired as quickly, and can get in way more reps than on sand or grass.
The other pointer I can give you are the videos "Blocking by Dogen" and "Center of Gravity by Dogen". Search for those on UA-cam, they are old as shit, but still hold up. If you learn those two techniques properly your head will mostly be closer to your center of rotation during tricks and therefore flips will become less dis-orientating.

I got a 7x12 tramp in 2012 that I used to rep out on. I couldn't dig a hole and put in the ground tho so donated it to a gym in 2020. I had to assemble and disassemble it every time I used it. Incredibly annoying. I have to rep out on 2in floor mats. So I don't shake the house too much....lol

Incredible. 2 months ago i started doing parkour. Unfortunately i took on a too big challenge (jump from a barricade 3 meters high) i felt confident before the jump, and when i was there i "shitted my armor" and stood on the barricade, losing my balance and falling on my wrist on the ground. Rn im recovering 2 months left. By this video i understood the basics are the most important (i knew that but just didnt know the border) and ill never make this mistake again. Please to you all who is starting parkour start slow and dont take any too big challenges at the start

@@TheJasonPaul thanks for the kind words. honestly im happy that i broke my hand, i found out that i need to repeat something more, and that it almost did not hurt at all (surprisingly it was just pulsing in some weird way, not really pain) i was always scared of getting an injury and the pain related to it, i think that once ill recover im gonna be a fearless warrior 🤣 with the only fear of elevated barricades. Now every small height with a barricade looks like from a tower, but i feel im going to slowly overcome it. Rn i'm doing a big milk diet and im getting better with each day. PS it happened cus i didnt jump on and then from the barrier i vaulted straight across it and tried Landing down but as i was flying i got scared and everything just fell Apart.
