    Hey Iron, another thing on sleep that I learned from darwin. Have you ever tried putting something in between your knees at night? Assuming you are a side sleeper, this just helps me sleep better as I don't have my body rubbing up against itself and keeps me more stable. I use it even when I'm not hiking and it's helped me get many more great nights of sleep.

    • @Hike-IT

      I am a side sleeper & hate it when my legs rub together if they are bare when I sleep. I usually wear a thin pair of smartwool leggings to fix that problem. Thanks a ton for the insight 🙌

    Great tips - you’re the man. 20 years ago lying flat on my back on the ground was great, but now pushing 50 I might not get up again, lol. Cheers.

    My favorite sleeping hack- Benadryl and an empty Gatorade bottle for midnight bathroom breaks!

      I use to take Benadryl as well. Always felt really groggy the next morning when I would take it though... Gatorade piss bottle is a next level move 🙌

    You didn't mention that you during those 15 minutes of savasana, need to with your mind starting from toes in feet and fingers in arms, bottom of back and up and head etc, think of each individual muscle and relax it.. This serves 2 purposes, 1. your mind is focused on 1 thing, bringing you to stop thinking about other things (which is what gives you the equivalent of 2 hours sleep as its relaxing your brain). 2. Relaxes each muscle in the body completely, which helps rejuvenate the muscles.
    Falling asleep/sleeping during this will not work, your brain need to be active and focused on relaxing everything.

      Wise words my friend! I'm a certified Sivananda yoga teacher and am aware of the proper Savasana... Sometimes I feel like giving people too much instruction will stop them from actually trying the thing in the first place. Not sure... Super appreciate the feedback 🙏

    You're a boss. Can vouch for the Sea to Summit Pillow. I bought it on your recommendation and it has made a huge difference in my quality of sleep on the trail. Think I'll also buy the sleep mask, like the tent without the rainfly in nice weather but sometimes the moon keeps me up. Great video. Thanks.

    • @Hike-IT
      @Hike-IT  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks buddy. I had a really hard time with it first... I'm not too worried about the black bears where I hike though. Would think twice about it if I was hiking in Grizzly territory.

    • @macmcmillen6282
      @macmcmillen6282 4 роки тому +1

      @@Hike-IT Thanks bud. I live in griz country so it's something I think about. Being smart with where you store food, where you setup an outdoor "kitchen" (it shouldn't be next to where you sleep), etc, goes a long way with reducing bear encounters. Black bears definitely don't have the same "attitude" as grizzlies. :)

    • @Hike-IT
      @Hike-IT  4 роки тому +1

      @@macmcmillen6282 the only animal in the country that I have a healthy fear for is the grizzly bear! Have read a lot about the subject but haven't spent much time in those areas. Super appreciate your insight. Trapped in my bubble a little bit in the PNW. Will make a note to include variables like that in future videos 🙌

    • @macmcmillen6282
      @macmcmillen6282 4 роки тому

      @@Hike-IT Glad to help in a limited way, Iron. I love grizzly bears; they truly are amazing animals. That said, I have the healthiest respect for them as well. I never go on hikes or backpacking without my bear spray. It's just as important, probably more so, as any of my other gear. Anyway, I've probably taken up too much of your time, so will sign off now. Keep the great videos coming!

    How do you clean? “With dirt?” Yeah, probably not gonna have a clean bowl

    • @Thedunbars77
      @Thedunbars77 3 роки тому

      The dirt soaks up the mess and when it’s dry you just brush it out. Key is using very dry dirt and brushing it out after. Works great!
