Great video!nice to see such a cheap power supply able to hold loads over the stated value, its amazing!

I'm building a vacuum tube mic preamp that I found out there on the interwebs, and the guy designed the circuit to be powered by a switching PSU, and I found one from Mean Well that would probably do the trick. 48 volt 2.3 amp. Similar form factor to the one you looked at in this video. It's about $16 retail. I want to rack up two of his PCBs into a 2U rack enclosure and use this to power the unit. I'm concerned about noise and isolation.
I also found that there isn't a better quality mid range price PSU out there. You either have this unit, or I found a beautiful hand made american unit that's over $200. Not that my search was exhaustive but you'd think there would be a better quality unit to be found at say $100 or something...
Anyway, I am going to order one of these to test it with my build when it's done.
Here is the high end one I found:

Can you help me out? Mine died in one day... esr meter shows nothing wrong with capacitors meanwell won't give me anything no schematics... no replacement nothing...

The largest PSU manufacturer is Seasonic, for industrial and the consumer market.
They at least use Nichicon capacitors in their products.

hello Mister..i bought an ELG-240-48AB..using it in 230V net. Its pulling about 265 watt warmed up. Now lets say the board power is 240 watt like advertised, it means efficiency is less than 90% and not 93% like in the manual. I always thought meanwell is very serious with its claims and numbers?

I have one question, what is that thing below the common mode choke? silkscreen says D1 (I have 2 of the LRS-150-24 here, both completly new and never saw any load, both produce sparks inside the plastic? tube around this "D1" part when I turn them on or off)

People are stupid, but this device is not meant to be used as a regular end user power supply. It is supposed to be installed as a part of some larger device by a person that hopefully knows a little bit about electronics.

How is the efficiency of Chinese power bricks? Also which around 100watt power brick(adapter) has the highest efficiency for the money? I need it for a costume made small minipc that idles around 15watts

Hey, great video! Really very interesting.
I am trying to build a power solution for some computer/live video kit. I have a few DCDC-USB-200 converting voltage/conditioning for a few of the different boxes. I want a PSU that can 'hot swap' between a 24v mains input and a 24v battery input, as small as possible as I want to house everything in a tidy box. I need around 15a. Is there anything you might recommend?
    Many thanks,
    Matt

Dual opto isolators probably resonant tracking

Bingo; that actually seems to be it. That's pretty cool, I haven't seen a secondary resonant tracking PSU in a while; I kind of assumed they all did primary valley counting.

Nice video! Now I know a bit more...
I am sure this is an overvoltage protection feedback and not a resonant feedback, as on flyback converters the resonant losses are mainly on the primary side.
I have a simlar one (same series, but 36V version) for a home project.
Sadly this smps seems to cause a lot of disturbing audible noise in the probably 100-1000Hz range in the low load condition. I don't like this sound, as I plan to use the device right next to my desk...
I assume it is a cause of my large 10µF capactor that I connected to the output (requirement for my project), because it does not make the sound when nothing is connected.
What do you think? Could an additional inductance between the SMPS and my capacitor bank help to reduce the audible noise? Or am I totally on the wrong path?

@@BlackFighter_95 I had the same problem with noise in Mean Well PSU when low load and connected to 4700uf capacitor, but it was gone when I connected it to LED Strip.
I don't have this noise problem when using Delta PSU.

wonder why so many people out there use those craps psu...meanwell is the best performance for price...those craps psu even worst than my 10 years psu..

These are about £18 in the UK, for a 150W that's really cheap I was worried they were poor quality, so thanks for the "review". No need to fork out for the crazy high quality, yet very expensive Cosel model and also cheap enough that you'd be crazy to buy a cheap Chinese eBay one.

7:30 You mention no over voltage protection, or MOV? So where do you find a power supply with that functionality?

if this is not the better supply what would be ?? i bought a Mean-Well Desktop Power Supplies the GST90A24-P1M
and i'm going to ask for RMA because it's not "mains earth referenced". Seems i needed to go for this one..GSM90A24-P1M
i'm going to shop from tme.eu as i live in the EU..anything you can recommend i go for ?? from EU would be nice..
Even if not from tme.eu i'm in The Netherlands btw..
i'm going to be using it for my TS100 just as a side note..
