    I started to collect africain art. I feel love from them b/c they were made out of love with faith to protect and to worship and to show beauty. They have universal energy and the artist puts his love and a part of himself or herself in the art.

    The surrealists did know the history of African artifacts.... real hair was used extensively for African artifacts... nothing new...this all suggess a lack of reading and depth..

      Stout isn't saying surrealists 'didn't know' the history of African artifacts, she's making a broader point about cultural appropriation, taking elements from a culture that is not your own. The point she makes is an important one. Also, why do you read 'nothing new' into Stout's use of her own hair in her sculptures? Why is that your reaction or your criterion? Your comments suggest a distinct lack of reading and depth...
