I grew up in England's Northwest so I know I'm biased but what a brilliant tv station Granada was. It wasn't just tv; it was part of our identity as a region which even became known as Granadaland. We felt it was really ours. I'm sure many other folk from the UK's nations and regions felt the same about their regional ITV. What a shame it's all gone - and who is to blame? The the same Aussie-American mogul who took our tv football away. Thanks mate - for nothing.

I made that closing film using stock footage that the news cameramen used to take whilst they had a few spare moments. The library dug it out for me, I got it transferred to 2 inch tape and spent about 3 hours in an edit suite putting it together with the help of a more experienced promo maker (Graham?). It went out about 6 times. Head of Presentation, Dave Black chose the music.

I want you to know that although you may have thought this was just a silly little project...it meant so much to me and my father when we first saw this when i was around 17 years old....we both loved it...the music and the images....we both looked forward to seeing it each time it was played at closedown....Thank you for creating it

I remember seeing this when broadcast and really enjoying it. Granada presentation was really good in the 1980's - such a shame local broadcasters no longer exist.

What a fantastic closedown! What the hell has happened today? A lovely mellifluous voice from Charles RIP sadly missed as is good old Granada!
Cue the sad Christmas music and the memories of lost loved ones and the sad decline of Television and the country in general, it is a good job I have had no Alcohol I would be blubbing over the past! Great times indeed and thanks to you tube this is the only 'modern' thing I enjoy cheers

In The Bleak Midwinter which is my favourite Christmas Song! - That Song which starts at 2:26 with a snowy themed North West England Version.

I vaguely remember a similar Christmas film at closedown which ended with a shot of a Christmas tree, the star at the top merging with a star above Granada House.

Charles Foster is still very much alive. In fact he's the voiceover for a certain Judge Rinder.

TV was a gentler beast back in those days, content and presentation tailored to the regions? Now it's very cold and impersonal
