- Going by the name "Makhafula Vilakazi" (the title of one of his poems) Matodzi Gift Ramashia grew up in Chiawelo, Soweto.
This Soweto-born poet fuses Tsotsitaal, English, Zulu and Sotho to depict township life and tackles issues affecting his community such as Hiv/Aids, unemployment and crime through poetry. He classifies his poems under "Kasi Poetry" as his writing is influenced and inspired by township life. He has performed at various events such as the Botsotso Poetry Festival, Jozi Spoken Word Festival, Arts Alive Festival, Be Connected International Festival and Music Mayday Festival amongst many others.
Makhafula Vilakazi is a living proof that hardwork, passion and determination are vital components required to break new grounds and attain in all spheres.
