  • It has taken some iterations, but the design and assembly of the three Audio Control Panels for my Boeing 737-800 flight simulator cockpit have been completed.
In this video the assembly of the PCB, mechanical parts and finally some fun with the navigation radio's and finished audio panels with VOR beacons near London Gatwick airport.
The PCB was designed for use with SimVimX/RealSimControl and X-Plane, but the switches and LED's (common 5V connection) have individual input and output pins at the connectors, so it can be used with other systems as well.
The analog multiplexer that is used for the 16 volume control channels however is SimVimX functionality only, AFAIK.
Although each panel is assembled with all the switches and lights, only the following are functional because of limited support in the simulator:
Mic VHF 1/2/3 switch + LED (VHF 3 LED currently not supported in the simulator)
    Mic PA switch + LED
Select VHF 1/2 switch + LED + volume control
Select NAV 1/2 switch + LED + volume control
Select ADF 1/2 switch + LED + volume control
Select MKR switch + LED + volume control
    ATC push to talk switch
Volume control support is currently limited to the Captain audio panel in the simulator.
It looks like NDB's are not supported in the X-Plane 737 model, because I couldn't find any functional ones near London Gatwick. In the Laminar 737 and ZIBO the ADF audio control panel buttons have label INOP.
Also functionality of the ADF buttons of the First Officer audio panel is a bit weird: mapping the switches and LED's to other simulator functions has shown that the hardware is correct, but clicking the First Officer audio panel ADF1/2 switches toggles the ADF1/2 LED's of the Captain audio panel.
The PCB and mechanical design files will be released soon for free download at minicockpit.wordpress.com
