Amber McQueen agreed. I love this romanticized, rococo-esque, and colorful movie. But I’m a big fan of Sofia’s movies. And this one was such a fun and beautiful interpretation.
Jason was so perfect in this movie as Louis XVI. Probably my favorite portrayal of the king in film he was gentle and awkward just like the real Louis. Very cute 🤭
Jason listening to The Strokes? I knew I loved him for a good reason 😂 Also this film is my favorite of all time (Virgin Suicides being number 2) The music, costumes, props, casting… everything is perfection! Sofia is my favorite Director! Jason and Kirsten have always had a special place in my heart.
For the most part I liked the movie. Though I don’t agree with modern music being injected into it just so the director could make it stand out. It sort of destroyed the immersion. But hey it’s her interpretation. I’ve also felt the movie was incomplete because it doesn’t see the story to the end where Marie Antoinette is finally guillotined. Perhaps that is why Kirsten Dunst says she feels as though Marie Antoinette never really grows into herself. Marie Antoinette really started to change once she had children. But by that time the movie was already ending. Marie Antoinettes life during the revolution is perhaps the most interesting period. Though tragic and gruesome, perhaps that is why the director decided to end it where she did.
You don't like the modern music but that's the point of the movie. It's an historical movie about an historical characters interpretated in a pop modern way. That's why it was innovative. It was a new approach.
I actually think it helped tell the story of the "rock star" life they lived while their people starved to death. Kinda hard to relate to that vibe listening to baroque music or something haha
this movie is a slow burn. didnt know that sofia directed it so i didnt have a preconceive idea on anything. at the end, i totally love it. tones and costume was like getting thrown into a candyland! lol. the only this i hated was the two instance where the camera just zoomed in like an amateur. what the hell was that?!
I just finished watching the movie for the first time..I gotta say she was superb...the acting , the costumes , the era, my favorite ....what a shame it was completely ruined by the horrible choice of music! Just awful. I'll never watch it again just for that reason.
If you’re going to deviate from historicity... do it like this.
this movie is one of my all time favs..such a cool interpretation..lalalove
Amber McQueen yes I lov it!

I love the aesthetics of this movie. It wasn’t exactly accurate in any way but I loved the feel & look of this movie. 💕
best movie ever
KEEPING UP WITH THE ANTOINETTES
Sounds like a better reality show than the Kardashian show. 😂😂

now those early 2000s hairstyles seem almost as crazy as the 18th century wigs lol
That is such a wonderful movie, one of my favorites by far

It sure is watchable, but I'd like something that really shows Antonia's rebellious nature.
