महान संत और दार्शनिक स्वामी विवेकानंद का जन्म 12 जनवरी 1863 को हुआ था। वह वेदांत और योग पर भारतीय दर्शन से पश्चिमी दुनिया का परिचय कराने वाली प्रमुख हस्ती थे। उन्हें 19वीं सदी के अंत में हिंदू धर्म को दुनिया के प्रमुख धर्मों में स्थान दिलाने का श्रेय जाता है। उन्होंने अपने गुरु की याद में रामकृष्ण मठ और रामकृष्ण मिशन की स्थापना की।
स्वामी विवेकानंद का जन्म 12 जनवरी 1863 को कलकत्ता (अब कोलकाता) में हुआ था। स्वामी विवेकानंद का बचपन का नाम नरेंद्र नाथ दत्त था। बचपन से ही उनका झुकाव आध्यात्म की ओर था। 1881 में विवेकानंद की मुलाकात रामकृष्ण परमहंस से हुई और वही उनके गुरु बन गए। अपने गुरु रामकृष्ण से प्रभावित होकर उन्होंने 25 साल की उम्र में संन्यास ले लिया। संन्यास लेने के बाद उनका नाम स्वामी विवेकानंद पड़ा। 1886 में रामकृष्ण परमहंस का निधन हो गया था।
