    CORRECTION:
    Omnipod 5 will have an extended bolus feature, but it cannot be activated while in auto mode (SmartAdjust mode). You will have to switch the pump into manual mode to be able to use it.

    Been an Omnipod user for 10+ years. The old pods were covered 100% with my insurance. The new pods for the 5 are only covered at 30% because Omnipod classified them as a disposable pharmaceuticals cal not durable medical equipment like the old pods were. And it only works with a few Samsung phones. I waited more than 7 years for this and am so disappointed with Omnipod that I’m considering switching to Tslim. It comes down to whether or not a closed loop is worth going back to a tube. Hopefully the hours I’ve spent on the phone with insurance and Omnipod will be useful to those thinking of switching. They swore I was covered at 100% only to find out they were either wrong or dishonest. Either answer is unacceptable. Check with your insurance about the coverage before switching, make sure disposable pharmaceuticals are covered or your first trip to the pharmacy for a refill will be a shock. The PDM is covered not the Omnipod 5 PODS

    I have a unusual question. I have narcolepsy with cataplexy and diabetes t2. Frankly I’m doing ok with a 6.5 A1C, I am happy and alive. My dilemma is I take XYWave, a sleep medication that absolutely knocks me out.. there is No possibility to me waking on a low or high alarm. I’m terribly concerned about this as is my endocrinologist. She suggested I migrate to a new pump ( current G670 ) to either a T2 or Omni pod 5. With these special considerations in mind would either of these pumps dependably handle prolonged night time lows with no human intervention ? I know it’s a tough question.

    I just watched your video. I am thinking of changing from Tandem to Omnipod partly because of cost of supplies and partly being tubless. I am cash paying because I was on Cobra. My husband is self employed and insurance has gotten expensive with higher deductables and reduced coverage.( we use a cost sharing program -
    Zion mainly for hospitalizations) I also am not satisfied with Tandem's support. I started Tandem during Covid and feel I have never really gotten adequate training or support. I do not have an Endo because I have yet to find one that will spend more than 5 or 10 minutes with patients. I have been
    diabetic approx. 30 years. Any feed back I could get from you or your followers would be great.

    1. As speaking, you can control the Tandem pump on the smartphone app. So, you can control the pump by the pump and smartphone app. With Omnipod, you can not control the pump by the pump.
    2. Omnipod app is not compatible with my smartphone phone, Samsung Galaxy 20S, ultra.
    3. It is very nice as tube less though.

      The G7 at this time is not approved for either pump. Hopefully by the end of the year. As far as sports, they both have pros and cons. The omnipod does stick out quite a bit more but it also doesn’t have any tubing which is important. You might consider requesting a sample of the omnipod for him to try when he’s playing sports to see if it winds up staying on.

    Thanks for this. I have been using the OmniPod 5 since it came out. My 8-year-old son uses the T-Slim. We've noticed that the OmniPod 5's technology has made it significantly better at regulating and correcting. Because my son is much younger, however, this also has to do with his more frequently changing insulin needs and he's been on the T-Slim for a couple years now, so it's had longer to disappoint. But from my experience with both, the OmniPod 5's technology is superior and it should be the go to unless there's a reason you need something different.

    • @diabetesdailydigest
      @diabetesdailydigest  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah it could be a problem especially if the person sweats a lot. The Omnipod is a lot bigger than other devices that use adhesive to attach like cgms etc and it could lead to it being torn off.

    • @keelymcmullin556
      @keelymcmullin556 2 роки тому

      My son is a crazy active 5yo who has worn omnipods for the last 3 years- even during dead of summer playing outside all day at summer camp sweating like crazy, the adhesive is pretty good. the problems in the past have been if a bit gets rolled up by friction (like sliding down a slide or brushing his arm when climbing a tree or such), and a bit of debris or dirt gets on, then clearly the adhesive on that part isn't as good, and you start to get more peeling off. we use the over bandages and that helps significantly. if your clothes chafe in certain areas, i'd avoid using the omnipod near there.

    • @ianhenry4046
      @ianhenry4046 2 роки тому

      Having used the old Onmipod for 4 years, I can say that the adhesive works very well and I've never had one come looseat all. The problem that I've been having recently is that the adhesive has started causing skin irritation and as the Omnipod has a larger "footprint" than most other pumps this is causing me significant issues.

    • @diabetesdailydigest
      @diabetesdailydigest  2 роки тому +1

      I dont use the Omnipod myself so I cant say from first hand experience, but a number of suggestions I have read:
      1) Replacing the pod every 2 rather than 3 days
      2) Spacing out your bolus, instead of giving 10 units at once, give it in (2) 5 units increments as sometimes a large bolus causes the insulin to back up
      3) When ready to hit the start for a new cannula insertion, pinch up on the skin around where the cannula will insert with two fingers and press down on the end of the pod with the cannula
      Heres a link to some other tips that may help

    There is a misconception. If it's working right you can't get a 110 average BG without swinging out of Control IQs desired control ranges. In normal mode and sleep mode ControI IQ will work hard to keep you from dropping below 112, in exercise mode below 140. The Tandem 110 "target" is only meaningful to internal calculations. It can only keep you in good "control" without wide swings out of range and slow corrections when it has a profile that follows your typical day metabolic rate changes and has close to accurate basal rates, ICRs and CFs. Tandem is FDA approved to have bolus from phone and plans to have it deployed to users by end of summer 2022.

For instance the target glucose levels, while there is some flexibility, you won’t be able to set it lower than 110 which I know with looping you could set much lower. As far as the Tandem I saw the news about that, I bet they had to push it out faster once they heard the Omnipod 5 was going to have this feature.

    I was multitasking while listening so I may have missed the info but I cannot use exercise mode effectively on the tandem so I’m guessing the same will happen on the pod. I take off the tandem completely during exercise to manage BG levels, will the pod allow me to do a 0% basal for an hour? I know you can make multiple profile goals but i am not sure if the goals are going to have the affect I need.

      So the way the Omnipod 5 works for exercise mode is as soon as you turn it on, it automatically decreases the basal rate, and sets your target glucose for 150. It will decrease and even shut off your basal rate if it feels this is necessary, but as far as manually shutting off the basal rate in anticipation of exercise, you'd have to set a temp basal rate to do this. So you have the ability to do this, its just separate program from the exercise mode.

    I am just going on the Omnipod 5 . One thing I wish you would discuss is traveling by air and going through security. Having been on the Tandem, I remove it and hand it to the attendant at the security check, or I take the body scan. My Tandem pump has always worked fine on long flights. I am concerned about the Omnipad ; obviously I cannot remove it so likely I will set off the metal detector, but will it work on the airplane?

      Yep works just fine on an airplane and doesn’t beep through security!

      I would imagine it should be ok, but it might be best to call Omnipod to double check with their technical support team.

      My guess is that they would have to use the wand instead of having you go through a metal detector.

    How will Tslim x3 compare to Omnipod 5?

      Hopefully we’ll find out soon once they release the X3. Hard to say at this point since there’s only been a few details released about the X3 as of now.

    FYI Omnipod 5 only works with a select few old Samsung phones, so advertising that it works with your phone is not exactly honest or realistic.

      I'm so sorry to hear that. Did the Omnipod maybe lose connection with your Dexcom? I have seen this happen when it comes out of automode, sometimes if the pod and Dexcom do not have line of sight this can happen
