Dawn Staley truly turned that program around. What a legend.
Hard to say. South Carolina should be the favorite next year. I have to think South Carolina, UConn and Stanford will be strong contenders for at least the next 5 years. If Geno keeps coaching at UConn, then I don't think UConn is done winning titles.
They might if they can’t recruit bigs to rebound and other ball handers to breakdown defenders
Read about UCONN since Rebecca Lobos , by this standard Sue Bird , DianaTaurasi and Maya Moore each had a dynasty
I'm from Philly. I was aware of Dawn mostly from her time at Dobbins HS and as coach at Temple. Yes, Dawn Staley is a winner, but more importantly she is a class act. Not that many athletes are true role models. she is one of the few.

UCONN brought the lead down to 6 ...
The key was Coach Geno putting in a couple seniors who sadly for them couldn't do much in the 3rd - it was all the rebounds (especially OBoards ) that was the key to the game;... Putting those seniors back in in the 3rd made the lead go from 8 up to 14 again by the late 3rd for UCONN.
In other words SC didn't shoot that well - UConn had a higher shooting %. BUt they rebounded a lot better.
Ducharme & NIka Muhl etc helped make the lead down to 8 by halftime.
I think all this "S. Carolina becoming a dynasty" is way premature...... SC just lost to Kentucky a few weeks ago in the SEC tournament. They won last night because of more athleticism in rebounding...
And it's not like UCONN is just gonna sit still - they already have two recruits over 6 ft 2 who are athletic coming in next year - that coulda been the difference in this game. (Also Fudd could barely play being limited by illness etc).
If UConn & SC meet again in a year - could be a very different outcome with Paige & Ducharme and Azzi Fudd a year stronger and older (Henderson and Saxton are graduating so SC loses them to the WNBA )....

Fudd could barely play last weekend - she was sick Saturday.... yeah it wouldn't of mattered this year - but we ll see about next year.
This was Geno's "Hardest year of all time".
Next year he's bringing in 2 top rated freshman who do exactly what UCONN Had trouble with Sunday: Be athletic, go grab rebounds... etc.
Then he'll have more experienced guards/ shooters like Fudd, Paige, Ducharme etc.
Even with all the advantages SC had ...... UCONN cut the lead to 6 in the 3rd quarter :)))
It's bc Geno put the Seniors back in (the one's who won't be there next year) ...that's why the lead went back up to over 10.
.... so it's way too early to start acting like "We got this for several years in a row now"
SC didn't even win the SEC - I was watching... they could barely score the final 2 minutes when KY made their run.... If that's how they are in the clutch, they could be in trouble next year.... they better just hope they are more athletic and outrebound folks...

Might not be the case when Patterson, Ice Brady, both 6 ft 2 and taller - are there next year.....

I believe so for the first time I seen more McDonald’s All Americans on South Carolina roster, not to mention the number one recruiting class and another great class coming in.
UConn's had more #1 recruiting classes than SC the past three years over all recruiting outlets.

This is why it is so hard to listen to sports media today, it’s ALL hype and extreme overreaction to absolutely everything. A dynasty after one consecutive championship? Really?! S.Carolina had an absolutely dominant team this year and very much deserved the championship they just won. Let them, or anyone for that matter, win a couple more in the next few years before using the legacy word.

That aside, the INFRASTRUCTURE of a dynast is already in place!
Great defensive team - Like Arizona
Arizona was there again but they have ZERO offensive prowess.
South Carolina needs to develop these 6’1” forwards on the offensive end in terms of
Raw ball skills
Shooting skills
Variety and precision scoring around the basket
Situational IQ skills
So when the game gets tight, they lose their nerve and they turn the ball over, take some bad shots and can’t throw routine entry passes into the post.
So they need to add skill development at another level with their forwards.
They also need outstanding and dynamic guard play.
Ex: A ball handling wizard and a big guard that can do everything.
They have everything else to be a destination!
With Kim Mulkey leaving Baylor, Norte Dame falling off a little and UConn slipping back to the pack, South Carolina can win multiple chips
lastly, and most importantly, parents can trust that their girls will have to work while not being rushed. Dawn is a proven leader of women and has the credentials to back it up!

I'd let them win 2 NCs in a row, or 3 in a row or 4 in a row, or maybe an undefeated season, or back to back undefeated seasons, or maybe 5 or 6 undefeated seasons like other dynasties before I'd crown them a dynasty.

Exactly. There have only been two real dynasties in the NCAA era of WCBB and that's Tennessee and UConn. They're the only teams to have sustained success through DECADES and also, other than USC in the 80s, to repeat as NCs. Baylor, Stanford, Notre Dame, La Tech have all had their moments of dominance but none of them were/are dynasties.

I think it's unfair to hold them to UConn's standard with how much more even the teams are this days. I don't think anyone will ever again come close in women's college basketball to the amount of success UConn has had for the past 30 years.

This is stupid! South Carolina just won their second title! Congrats to them but they are nowhere near a dynasty. They only just joined USC(2), LA tech(2), notre dame(2), Baylor(3), Stanford(3), Tennessee(8), and UConn(11) as schools that have more than 2 or more championships! If they win a few more championships then sure they’ll be considered a dynasty but it’s still way too immature to say that

Coach Staley is a FANTASTIC COACH, BUT. the count is 11--2, or 3 if you give them the 2020 title, that is questionable. Geno has a great way about him as well, we are talking about 11 titles and over 1100 wins,

There was no champion in 2020. The NCAA awards titles by polls, NCAAW basketball is decided in a tournament.

South Carolina has been strong for several years now and just completed a great season crowned with their 2nd natty. Dawn is a superb coach and great Philly (along with Geno) character. I say congratulations to S.C.!
Uconn, on the other hand, is arguably the greatest sports dynasty (men or women) in history. Absolutely zero disrespect to South Carolina, but to equate their success with Uconn is ludicrous.
Uconn just endured their most injury devastated season in program history, sporting a season long makeshift lineup, yet still reached their 14th STRAIGHT Final Four.
For the last 29 years the worst Uconn has finished was the Sweet Sixteen. That happened twice.
They've had six undefeated championship teams.
They didn't lose a game for roughly 3 years...2014-17
Since 1993-94 this is how Uconn seasons ended ...................
Sweet Sixteen (2 times)
Elite Eight (5 times)
Final Four (9 times)
N.C. Game. (1 time)
Nat. Champs (11 times)
I'll stop there but this only scratches the surface in illustrating the mind boggling degree of their success.
South Carolina needs to win back to back or three peat championship and couple undefeated season to become a dynasty like UConn and Tennessee did it. South Carolina is not a dynasty yet not even close.
It’s a different sport now than when Tennessee and UConn were dominating like that. Most years those teams didn’t have real competition. Now, SC, Stanford, Louisville, and UConn are consistently really good. Tennessee and Notre Dame are on their way back. LSU will only get better under Mulkey recruiting. Just so much more parity now.

I think it’s gonna get tougher to have a dynasty in women’s bball now because the teams are getting so much better. South Carolina will almost certainly win some more, but I don’t think we’ll see Tennessee or UConn level dominance again. The depth is just better.

@@MrLarryLessor stop it you only thinking about offense the reason those seniors had a bad night is because they couldn’t get pass SC gaurds off the dribble they were forced to take bad shots all night and when they did cut it to six SC immediately took it back to 11.... if they played in a series who do you think would win I’m curious?

South Carolina's big advantage was Boston - but it's not like she scored that much .... Boston brought attention from other players which gave people like Henderson open looks.

Dynasties come and go. Uconn had their time but it doesn't mean they won't return. SC is enjoy their time now. That too will change. That's what's exciting to watch in this game, it's cyclical.

It's a new era! Young people are rushing to transfer portal and want their own NIL deals, and playing only 15 minutes a game is not going to do it. If you think you are going to win because you have lot of good players, you don't know basketball. USC won because Boston worked really hard during the off season and her teammates sacrificed. What we're seeing is the Lakers or Celtics dynasties vs the Warriors. Dynasty isn't about the other teams. It's what that team does. UCLA men were a dynasty at one point. Things end and another team rises at some point. That's what could be happening. It doesn't diminish Uconn.
Boston was not the player last year, that she is now. Credit to her. We will see if Uconn collectively does the same.

UConn needs a consistent thick, dominant big to be able to compete with South Carolina, I'm from Connecticut and followed this team every so often this season. I think they overachieved and when they lost to Oregon, I thought they were done. Geno did a great job, plus their best two players are freshman and Fudd was nowhere to be seen in that game. They'll win a title at least once with both Bueckers and Fudd there but they need to mature, they looked pretty arrogant after beating Stanford.
About the dynasty, that's a big no. The Patriots didn't win a title for almost a decade and they were still a dynasty up until Brady left. Women's college basketball is WAY more competitive and has more parody than it did even 5 years ago but South Carolina's gonna have to win 3 more in 4 years to be considered for that.. plus even though I'm biased, Andraya went to Tennessee, of course she'd say yes.

There's a ton players putting way better stats than Paige but they not from Uconn so people don't talk about them.
