    I'm guessing the B&S are layered mahogany as the site doesn't mention solid mahogany.

    • @tomformanek3312
      @tomformanek3312 2 роки тому +1

      The back uses an arched/molded laminated mahogany back. It works. No bracing (which adds rigidity). This allows to tone on the top to bounce off the back and project out.
      Jumbos have a lot of spruce to move, so many can take time to open up.
      Guilds US models will also sport this manufacturing process using the original machine Guild had. Gibson also experimented with the Blue Ridge, some of which laminated maple on the inside and rosewood on the outside. Really nice guitars.

      Do you bow down to the J200 or does it allow you to play it. A great J200 is wonderful, but Gibson has put out a lot to dogs as well. They earned their reputation over decades.

    Sounds like the majority of laminated guitars, too thin.

    • @tomformanek3312
      @tomformanek3312 2 роки тому +3

      Top has to loosen up. The formed back is well established to push sound out very well. You can judge it on your handheld device if you want, but this construction clearly makes it a Guild. Bone pins and the right strings and you've got a great budget axe.

      @@tomformanek3312 1- I do not listen to this on a cell phone, I am connected with a tower computer directly via HDMI in a Denon receiver which is connected to my TV, and the sound comes out through 4-way tower speakers. Do you think 1 minute that I judge the sound of a guitar with shitty cell phone speakers.
      2- I have been playing acoustic guitar for 36 years, I have played hundreds and hundreds of guitars from all known manufacturers and all formats, I have played all laminate, solid tops with laminate back and side, and all solid, and although many of them sounded pretty, I've never played a solid top on laminate that sounded as rich as warm and woody as a solid wood.

    • @tomformanek9829

      @@Denon395 Where to start.
      I have been playing for 50 years and I have learned people who make blanket statements do so to impress others.
      I have played lots of solid wood guitars I could not wait to depart with including a Gibson, three Guilds and two Martins....plus a Taylor.
      Not everyone can afford your level of taste (or perhaps superiority). The guitar won't replace a F50 nor a Gibson J200. That doesn't mean you can'twind up with a really enjoyable guitar.
      Gibson has also used molded backs as has Guild. It adds rigidity while reflecting sound out much as an Ovation. I have played lots of dead sounding all solid guitars. Taylor makes really nice laminate back guitars. Tone is what you hear for what you need and what you can afford. Unfortunately review sites have more than their fair share of people who divert any discussion from the instrument to themselves including the obligatory "give me Martin or give me death" folks. Your impressions will go a lot further than plugging your standards my friend.

    • @Denon395
      @Denon395 2 роки тому

      @@tomformanek9829 You don't have to put $5000 on a guitar, these days there are solid wood guitars at reasonable prices. I have a Godin Metropolis Cedar Natural which is only $1500 CAD which is all solid wood and it sounds and plays like a $3000 guitar. To each their own preferences, I've played several laminated guitars and they always seemed to me to sound thin, and didn't have that woody sound of solid wood. Tastes are subjective but for me the laminate does not suit me.

      Could be because a lot of the playing was just to demonstrate sound and volume, particularly the oddly timed strumming on certain parts. On good speakers, you can hear him playing harder and softer on those parts to show how the bass and volume changes.
