It’s obviously Alexander-Nicol what a player he is and was
I've watched games from the 87-90 seasons and Steve Nichol was the 2nd best player in this period(2 league titles and 1 runner up on the last day Micheal Thomas goal) to only John Barnes. I think he was the most consistent player alongside Steve Mcmahon too. So Nichol was quality like TAA too

Stevie Nicol was one of the best full-backs of all time. An absolute legend. TAA will be Liverpool captain in 5 years and go on to have a brilliant career. Lucky to have had them both.

Keeping a squad together is harder then creating one. Real had a great squad for 2,5 seasons. Then dropped. Either way. I don’t even rate PL that high.
Steve Nicol was one of the best fullbacks in Europe in the mid to late eighties. He’s probably one of the top 5/6 defenders in Liverpool’s history. Trent is great, but he’s still behind Steve Nicol in my opinion. Won’t be for long though I suspect.

Steve Nicol was more versatile in his prime than Trent, though Trent perhaps has better passing and freekicks. Trent has time on his hands though, maybe he will score a hattrick like Nicol did in 87/88

That's right... as long as Liverpool wins, I don't really care if Salah or anyone is playing badly or not. I'll be pissed if it causes us to drop points though but so far Liverpool very rarely lose anyway so yeah for now I'm not concerned. There's always Firmino, Mane. TAA etc etc who can score goals

Good question about Stevie Nicol and TAA, I am 45, started seriously getting into football, around 83-84 at that time Liverpool were the best team in Europe, they won European Cup in 84, League, and League Cup that year, but in the late 80's Liverpool, had an amazing team 88-90, played some amazing football and the season 87-88 season Liverpool were in a different league and Stevie Nicol was fantastic, imagine him playing now with the fitness coaches, and diet he would be worth millions, hard to compare really a draw both brilliant.

Stevie played in a Liverpool team that was amongst the best in the world for a decade, he won so much including a player of the year award. TAA was good for a season, now he's been great for half a season...so maybe in the long run it will be TAA, but not now.

In the 80’s Liverpool have players like Dalgish, Souness, Rush, Hansen, and Barnes which highly contributed to Liverpool success. Playing for Liverpool, players have to play their guts out to hold their position. Lucky for Nicol, he played for Liverpool
Liverpool groomed him to play well, just like Andy Robertson (though different position).

Steve Nicol was much more of a goal threat than Alexander -Arnold. Also, I think a better defender. When it comes to pace, and passing the ball Trent wins out. I think if Trent becomes a better defender he will eventually become world class. I've seen a few times this season where he was caught out position. Steve Nicol was more rounded but lacked the pace, and passing array Trent has.
Question should be is TTA better than Steve Gerard at this age of this Liverpool career

Adriano Trent can play midfield. He was playing CM, but he converted to right back to get into the first team quicker.
Stevie g is his inspiration and looking at his passes and shooting, the technique is almost spot on

Nicol without a doubt. He was an all rounder, play on the left and right, all defensive positions and all across mid field, and can score goals easily. Scored a few hat tricks as well. What more do you want?

Trent is the better player. Nicol was the better old school traditional full-back when they never bombed forward. Trent is not as good as Nicol at defending, but everything else, is superior even now. It would be like comparing Cole to Pearce. Pearce is the better defender, but Cole is the better player by miles. If Klopp played tactics to keep his back 4 back at most times, I'd pick Nicol. Any tactic when full-backs transition into wing-backs as this current LFC side do, its Trent by miles. I mean, just look at his assists.

Pearce was great at tacking, always in position, and threw his entire body into tackles. You will never change my mind, i watched both. If I was playing against City or current Liverpool and was after a draw(0-0), I'm playing Steve Nicol and Pearce over Cole and Trent, without a doubt. I'd pick Irwin and Gary Neville over Cole and Trent as well, if i was just shutting up shop.
I'm not mocking Cole, he is the better player than Pearce, by miles at going forward, so will always pick him and Trent over Nicol & Pearce. Nicol and Pearce are the better old fashioned no nonsense full-backs who's only job it is to defend.
@Eureka Compared to a modern full-back like Rose, Cole, Trent, yes, Nicol rarely went forward. Everybody in England played 4-4-2 back then remember. No man marking, and Nicol was in the dominant team at the time. Nicol had his long range shots as well, so was shooting from deep against 80's goalkeepers on bad pitches.
I mean Trent's last game he assisted 2 goals, and scored one himself, that is as good as Nicol scoring a hat-trick himself, its still three goals for your team.
You obviously never saw Stevie play he scored way more goals that Trent ever did he went forward all the time in a side that was best side ever to be when it came to great English teams.

Steve Nicol is lucky to play for Liverpool. He was just a normal player. Compare him with Trents, Trents is way much much better than Nicol. Trents kicking is powerful and accurate.
