Castlevania's foray onto the Genesis sees two protagonists duke it out with Dracula and his minions: John Morris and Eric Lecarde. John Morris carries the famed whip, and Eric Lecarde wields a spear.
This run sees Eric Lecarde take his turn against the vast minions of Dracula. While Lecarde moves slightly faster than Morris, lag from his magic spear had to be taken into account more often, and he is weaker against bosses. For more precise details, see the authors' detailed submission text for Morris (tasvideos.org/....
This movie has a full Atlas Map encode ( • Castlevania: Bloodline... ), which shows the standard encode overlaid on a zoomed out map.
What is even cooler is how much fun the fella who is recording the inputs is having.
this game has a lot of good music
Especially Level 4 or Iron Blue Intension
@@NinjaCacodemon_IsSus Maybe Stage 6?
Castlevania is notorious for having great music
I like the victory dances he does after each boss battle hahaha
The movement in this game is so stylish.
me, watching from the start: oh, a castlevania TAS without a boundary break/warp
this TAS: 12:30
This game looks freaking beautiful. Its definitely one of the best looking Genesis titles. I had no clue they made a genesis castlevania game.
This is far from one of the best looking. Red Zone, Toy Story, Thunder Force IV, Mega Turrican, and others look better than this
You're missing out, go play it!
@@solarflare9078 It still looks great.
@@blufudgecrispyrice8528 True, but it's still nowhere near one of the best.
@@solarflare9078 nah
One of my favorite Castlevanias! It is admittedly rough around the edges compared to some of the other classics in the series, but it just plays so exceptionally well! Certainly very challenging too, but in a fun, learning-experience sort of way.
Also, some of the best music in the series too (Michiru Yamane's first time composing for a Castlevania!) I understand a lot of people hate the Mega Drive's sound chip but I am a sucker for FM synthesis... it's so clanky and sharp sounding and I love it
I agree. It truly feels like an arcade Castlevania experience (well, only fully arcade if they keep a level timer :p)
Also, a lot of people hate the Mega Drive soundchip because it's apparently the hip thing to do with them.... and SNES fanboys.
I do think the sound effects need a little work though; most are recycled from Contra Hard Corps (Same sound engine) and sound out of place, but they're still good SFX.... just not the best uses of them.
@@solarflare9078
Heh, yeah that's exactly how I envisioned it, an arcade sort of experience! (a much better one than Haunted Castle 🤢).
And, ah, I see. I try not to hate on SNES fans, (I enjoy the SNES more than the Mega Drive myself, but the hate between the two is unjust, in my opinion) but that is a bit unfortunate! The FM chip just adds this nice twang to the sounds of the Sega's games. I've yet to play Contra Hard Corps but I've seen many games utilize the sound chip wonderfully!
The Yamaha in the genesis is only rivaled by the VRC6.
1:29 excuse me? That was hella cool lol
Excellent run, with style!
This TAS checks all of the boxes: funny movement, wack-ass hitbox manipulation, crazy boss kills and autoscroller shenanigans.
I’m so glad I bought the Sega Genesis mini so I can play this game.
Emulation is the way, you idiot😂
@@teddythrobber6815 C'mon, don't be a douchebag. Besides, the Sega Genesis Mini is a cool gadget.
@@damin9913 The Mini is emulated quite well though. Almost as good as the original hardware, and we have M2 to thank us for the brilliant emulation.
I'm hoping that maybe at some point; PSN will release new expansions of the "Sega Classics Collection" and add this to it. But that may be just a dream
@@Recon-cv1fe It's on the Castlevania Collection on PSN and Steam.
Spear Dude has returned to show Whip Guy how it's done.
Isn't Eric Lecarde a girl?
@@JohnnyCasey no, just a Spanish noble.
@@pcachu
Girl can be a spanish and noble
@@JohnnyCasey Not sure how this changes the fact that Eric is a dude, specifically a spear dude. He's just a very pretty boy with long luscious hair that any girl would kill for.
@@pcachu
Indeed? Well, excuse me, then.
22:36 this is called the baby
Why use a whip when you can destroy monsters with a magic spear?
there's a lot more graphical effects than i would have expected
Which game is better?
Castlevania 3: Dracula curse or this one
I think Castlevania 3 Reasons:
-It has more characters to play as
-Music sounds better (Opinions)
-Better looking enemies
I like this enough, but Castlevania 3 ranks so high for classicvanias. It's only brought down by the slowass character switch and possibly playable character limit, both fixed by romhacks anyway.
This is the reason why people seem to start with Lecarde instead of Morris
Best childhood game I have ever remember💕💕💕💕💕💕
Eric will venture into the greatest unknown ever: Fatherhood.
what an excellent game
This video show 'this is the skill of tas'
I'm going to sound uneducated, but what is the difference between Eric and John? They seem the same to me
In basic terms:
Eric's spear gives him the super jump and diagonal up+upwards attack from the ground.
John's whip only has a diagonal up attack while jumping, which can be used to attack higher enemies but it's mostly for swinging off ceilings.
Eric's super subweapon is a fullscreen multihit blast.
John's super subweapon is a homing magic stream that can hit 3-4 times.
A tiny difference to notice when playing both is John's whip swing is slower than Eric's spear stab.
From a casual POV, Eric is much easier to use than John. For TAS purposes the difference is small, but John's clear time is faster than Eric's by 5 seconds.
This game is great 😊
Holy crap. I've played lots of CastelVania games, and the premise of Bloodlines is cool, the sound effects and music are absolute ear rapes.
You're nuts.
@@ak2112 Only if you've never played in CastleVania outside of the Genesis version I guess, including the original NES trilogy.
The sound effects aren't good, but the music is fantastic.
Genesis soundchips do that when you're not used to them. Music is amazing if you can find it done with better instruments. Stage 4's Iron Blue Intention sounds awesome in Portrait of Ruin.
It always confused me why in the "Symphony of the Night" prologue it said; "Final Stage: Bloodlines"
I was thinking "this was NOT how the final battle in "Bloodlines" was. I guess maybe a translation thing?
The first stage in SotN is actually from the end of Castlevania Rondo of Blood on the PCECD
@@ezgames6925 That's what I was thinking too. "Rhondo of Blood" or even "Vampires Kiss" which was the Japanese "Castlevania 5"
Yeah, those stages had names. Bloodlines was the last stage.
This Castlevania comes way later in the story, it was around the first great war I think, Konami made its chronology cannon with Portrait of Ruin.
@@williamzeo2493 Yeah, it's kind of after Bram Stoker's Dracula and before Order of Ecclesia and Portrait of Ruin. John Morris is the son of Quincy Morris, and Eric Lecarde was a friend of Alucard and was gifted the spear to help in this quest.

I laughed so hard
This takes a giant steaming liquid shit on the Nintendo counterpart. Holy hell.
Incridible !
did they take a bit of music from phantom of the opera?
He play with TAS skill.
And I play with the cheat codes skill. :))
Not a big fan of the sfx but the music and gameplay looks really fun.
Sikefuiste perfekto jugandolo ❤
Finished this on Sega channel in like 93-94ish
How long does it take to write the code for these raw speed runs?
Tas*
a few weeks usually. sometimes a month or more. rarely do TASes ever take more than a year. also it isn't "code", it's just inputs
@@xxEzraBxxx oh ok, I appreciate it. Thanks
Ive never played this game. The character looks like hes dressed out for gym and put a cape on
Since 19:05 rom glitch?

the sound chip and lack of color really shows on the Genesis vs SNES
The lower SNES resolution and lack of sprite effects also really shows to the Mega Drive's favor here.
That right there is my nicest way of saying "Shut the fuck up"
_God, can there be one... just ONE comment section on a Mega Drive video where people don't feel the need to shit on the Mega Drive because "lol SNES better, Genesis bad". These same fanboys also completely ignore the faults of the SNES (lower resolution, worse sprite engine, worse CPU, limited sound RAM, etc) and praise it even at its absolute worst on SNES videos because yay better colors. UGH!!!_
I do prefer the SNES, but the Genesis sound chip is nice it it’s own way. Also, I find the lack of colour is negligible. All it means is you’re just playing with some different colours.
i beat it
The genesis sound is strong in this game. Makes me wonder how it would have sounded on a SNES?
Dang, I didn't know Xiao from Genshin Impact was in Castlevania.

so you put a invencible hack in every game? shame
Not only does there _has_ to be the obligatory "MEGA DRIVE BAD" comment in Mega Drive videos, but now there's the obligatory "TAS USES INVINCIBLITY CHEATS!!!" comment in TAS videos as well?
This comment section is fucking AIDS.
Solar Flare agreed
Shows how little you know about TAS.
Also, *invincible. You were so close, though.
At stage 4 I realize; okay this was just for showing-off purposes because I can clearly see you cheating.
So?
Bloodlines has some weird hit detection in areas. I experimented via emulator and none of this feels off from what you would expect if you played the game.
The sound effects and music are sooooo bad. I have to mute it to make this watchable.
Shut the fuck up SNES fanboy
@@solarflare9078 Gotta love anonymous online cowards who would never say that to my face.
Quite shitty taste you got there
Thanks for sharing your opinion! Unfortunately nobody asked, cared, or really needed to know what you thought about this subject! Especially considering you're dead wrong if you think this game has bad music. But "Hurhur Genesis bad XD"
@@crispcat What the hell else did you expect would happen from posting an opinion you felt the need to rub in with having to "mute it to make [this] watchable"? It makes you seem quite ignorant, and frankly, an annoying ass SNES fanboy.
Sorry Megadrive fanboys, but this is one of the weaker Castlevanias. The level layout sucks, the frigging NES had more variety in the charset and a boss rush to make the endgame longer without adding content? Really?
Some nice demo-esque graphic tricks, i give the devs that, but the overall game just stinks when compared to the way earlier released Super Castlevania 4.
Yeah yeah, no one cares about your pointless anti Genesis ranting. That's not even remotely close to the point of this video.
Although I am a Super Castlevania IV fan myself (my favorite classicvania!) you cannot deny that this is one of the better playing games of the classics. This game was also at least more difficult than IV, if you're into that sort of thing.
I also have to disagree with your opinion on the level design in some regards... this game experimented with some more interesting platforming segments and the fact that there are some minor alternative routes you can take based on character choice is very cool to me. A lot of the level environments were fascinating too (scaling the Tower of Pisa? That's pretty cool...)
Also this game definitely has more (or at least the same) in the charset than the NES games.
Lastly I personally didn't mind the boss rush at the end, it was done in SCVIV so why wasn't it an issue there? Sure there are more bosses in the Bloodlines boss rush, but at least all of the bosses you have to fight are balanced appropriately, and Death is a pretty fair boss with some fun to avoid attacks. I would agree if you said Bartley's boss fight is unnecessary, though (it's really easy).
@@XBladenoJutsu When there's Mega Drive content, there's always gonna be the Mega Drive haters.
LMAO Nintendiots will always be mad that Sega does what Nintendon't :DDD
