i think you have some mistakes here. This part is quite complicated. Where do you put your essence cards? there are three options as i understood: 1. there is the essence pool. 2. there is a quest log for each hero that provies one place for each level of hero 2. there is your hand as well. it's not well defined in the rules book.
As cool as this game seems. It's a little too cute for how many mechanisms there appear to be. Not that's it's overly complicated, but the artwork is very childish for the clearly adult game going on underneath.
Too complicated, too many possible actions for each action, too many phases too, how the heck can someone remember all those rules? this does not work for someone who used to play strategy games like Trajan, bora bora, Escape Plan, Lisboa, Caverna, Feast of Odin, Terra Mystica, Gaia Project, Underwater Cities...etc.
