I recommend stitching with transparant (fishing) wire intstead of taping.
If you go the yarn route. Leave it and put the wire right next it. Remove it as you go

How much volts do I need if the wire will be used for a shirt?
The controller is only 3 to 6 volts dc. The controller inverts it to 1000v AC or so.

SuperZucc yep, it’s a weird voltage the little controller is nothing but a transformer. It can be run off of a button cell battery.
