After about 12 boards I’m just not enjoying the hobby and the chase anymore. It’s stressful and expensive and there just isn’t a practical reason to own more than 2-3 boards max. I ordered a mode sixtyfive because it was easy and had nice options. It probably won’t be anyones unicorn but I’m enjoying it enough to stop for now.
@@AndyVNguyen Appreciate that. Yellow Unikorn looks insane! I got my bakeneko but wondering where I can buy a different hardness of O-ring and also a compatible 60% solder pcb. Andy, any recommendations?
I bought o rings from o ring store website. It’s legit. Just need the length. Softer Shri o rings are harder to source though so it would be from China via aliexpress or taobao
Yellow looks great, the white is pretty basic, especially for someone that already has a bunch of keyboards, the color gives it a lot more personality.
This was similar for me with the Omnitype Bauer 2. Lusted for the Black/Brass version since getting into the hobby and I managed to score in the recent raffle. Arrived today! End game achieved, keyboard rehab in motion.
So we'll just have to settle for a battle cruiser with linux firmware instead of chasing after the elusive endgame thacc (thocc + clack) of a minimal 65% keyboard?
Give it a few years.. if you type enough.. when that carpel tunnel starts to hit.. you'll switch to a split board ortho and never look back. Since the weight has already started to patina, kneedeeppatinas might be able to hook you up. They're kinda expensive, but damn do they look nice. I'd understand if you don't want to do it as well.
I’ve used them before and after they raised their prices it’s too expensive for my blood. I also would rather have patina regular brass than the wild colors. The board is also a loud color don’t need a loud weight too ya know?
Hello, I am new to keyboard group buys and I am looking for a Unikron R1 case for my Wooting60HE's PCB. Can you tell me where I can buy it and when it will be restocked?
Not a huge believer of o ring gasket mount. It's really stiff and really doesn't achieve the gasket mount effect at all. Still a good board. Skeptical of the gasket mount tho
Another interesting gasket is j-02 isolation gasket. It also does not deflect in like a poron gasket mount. Sometimes it’s about bounce feeling vs deflection
my end game dream is probably a heavy alu exploded 75% with heavy tactiles for typing and a lighter 65% with medium weight linears for gaming. Since i just got my first custom it doesnt make sense to choose particular boards and switches yet
@@moosethefam broo i also have the q1 with boba u4ts and im very happy with it, im stil wating for some modding stuff tho. But i think in a few years when ill have more money i might go for another more highend groupbuy 75% (with a brass weight and stuff)

I never understood endgame till I got my first custom keyboard. I bought a tofu 60 acrylic, 1up pcb, brass plate, durok stab, etc, roughly 400 spent, next week the Melatrix Zoom65 dropped without me knowing. Learned about that sexy flex of gummy mount, all the foam comes with the board. The keyboard envy is real.
yeah that's how the hobby goes, and once you hit all the different mounting styles and layouts then you realize that one of the boards along the journey was all you needed lol
Glad I took place calling this a yellow tofu in one of your steam. But I did get a e yellow case with black keycaps because of your unicorn. I've got the gummy oring but haven't got the time to mod it.
I come to youtube looking for a replacement for my Das Keyboard after 8 years of daily usage, i feel mechanical keyboards have become like sneakers for computers
My Certina DS Action Precidrive ended my watch addiction (or at least temporarily, but maybe forever who knows). It's obviously very far from "end-game" in that space, but it absolutely ticks all the boxes for me personally, is a quality "do everything" piece, and isn't obscenely expensive so that I can use it as intended instead of babying it. I just really hope I'll find the same sweetspot with a keyboard somewhat soon, before this stuff takes too much time and money 🤣 It's kindoff a weird phenomenon this, getting addicted to watching reviews, browsing websites, reading about stuff in detail that average people would never think or care about. Becoming an enthusiast. The search is the the hobby in my experience. But it's nice reaching end-game as well.
I do the same fake arrows on the bottom right :P Only thing it messes me up on is the super quick "?" with right shift, I realized I never used right shift other than when I typed out a question mark lol. I think the e-yellow is kinda rad with the black. Dope vid as always Andy.
yeah i set the split rshift (fn) to "toggle" fake arrows. so when i'm done i turn it off. i do type w rshift a lot i just try to make a conscious effort to remind myself that if i'm using arrows, make GO TO WORK and stop chatting lol thanks for the kind words brendan!
I have been in the hobby for only half a year and the thing I would LIKE to do is only buy the uniquely colored boards. I have only bought a couple E-whites so I could experiment with a couple keycaps but otherwise. I am perfectly happy waiting for a design to come out with a funky mint, or a wile lavender neon
what a coincidence, my eyellow tofu can also do a drop-in friction fit gummy o ring build
Now you will die for saying that
Good thing I put that purchase link at the top of the description!

they don't restock those anymore, only aftermarket available
this chad prefers a IN STOCK unicorn instead of a keycult 1/60 that sells out in 2 seconds that everyone wants.
them keycults be raffles tho. except that last sale of the stuff no one wanted lmao
his palms were sweaty, hands are heavy, mom's spaghetti.
This seriously made me anxious😂🖤
Hahaha
Not a huge believer of o ring gasket mount. It's really stiff and really doesn't achieve the gasket mount effect at all. Still a good board. Skeptical of the gasket mount tho
Another interesting gasket is j-02 isolation gasket. It also does not deflect in like a poron gasket mount. Sometimes it’s about bounce feeling vs deflection
@@AndyVNguyen Thanks a lot for the reply. Will definitely look into that keyboard as well.
You mentioned that your inks were lubed with your old method, do you mind sharing what you new method is? Or possibly make an updated lubing guide?
Take my current video and just skip the bottom housing lol
my end game dream is probably a heavy alu exploded 75% with heavy tactiles for typing and a lighter 65% with medium weight linears for gaming. Since i just got my first custom it doesnt make sense to choose particular boards and switches yet
Just take your time experimenting and endgame will come!
That's my exact setup rn, keychron q1 with Boba u4ts for typing and kbd67lite with gateron yellows. Good luck with finding your endgame!
@@moosethefam broo i also have the q1 with boba u4ts and im very happy with it, im stil wating for some modding stuff tho. But i think in a few years when ill have more money i might go for another more highend groupbuy 75% (with a brass weight and stuff)
brass weight definitely makes it feel more endgame worthy tbh
Did you use the stock ink v1 springs? or did you swap them?
Congratulations! But don't you think GMK Lux will make this keyboard even better?
I thought about it but I think the yellows would clash
This is such a good video Andy. It made my day. (that yellow color looks so good btw)
i dont even like yellow. and i love this board lol
love the video! I do remember you mentioning that you were not a big fan of the blacks on alu plate on your unikorn. Was it because it was too clacky? Would like to know your thoughts.
Yeah too clacky and sharp sounding to use all day
The cure for your backplate is to make the "patina" uniform. Oxidize the entire plate.
you are skilled at storytelling , nice keyboard too
Do inks get smoother the more you use them, like MX blacks?
You can smooth out the black ink v2s that are scratchy the same way you can mx blacks
Fantastic video Andy, love to hear peoples stories about stumbling through the hobby.
Thanks Jordan! I figure not a lot of people tell a story like that especially about the high end. I feel like a lot of ppl just drink the kool aid and grab a Jane and call it good
"It's not just for show" I see you
Andy's Story Time? We need that series!
Hahah Ill definitely see what I can do!
E yellow is surprisingly fun to use! You gotta gummy o ring it soon. Trust
I want to build my first keyboard with fast linear switches comparable to my apex pro or mx silvers? any recommendations?
Buy a switch with a light spring or Spring swap a switch you like the sound and feel of to something lighter
I come to youtube looking for a replacement for my Das Keyboard after 8 years of daily usage, i feel mechanical keyboards have become like sneakers for computers
Parts of it have become like that yea
Wow I thought I was hot stuff for the 60% improvised arrow keys AND cherry w/ durock stem stabs on my bakeneko. Galaxy brain
you're a genius in the making
This would be my endgame too. If I had one…
maybe one day!
Hey, so how is it going? Are they letting you have unsupervised outings yet?
Calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean.
You couldn’t just get white again? Or were you worried it would yellow again? That sucks.
Yeah mostly worried it would go yellow again bc we weren’t sure what exactly happened.
That's how it felt when I bought the final mouse
Glad you could experience the same
My Certina DS Action Precidrive ended my watch addiction (or at least temporarily, but maybe forever who knows).
I do the same fake arrows on the bottom right :P
Only thing it messes me up on is the super quick "?" with right shift, I realized I never used right shift other than when I typed out a question mark lol.
I think the e-yellow is kinda rad with the black. Dope vid as always Andy.
yeah i set the split rshift (fn) to "toggle" fake arrows. so when i'm done i turn it off. i do type w rshift a lot i just try to make a conscious effort to remind myself that if i'm using arrows, make GO TO WORK and stop chatting lol
thanks for the kind words brendan!
That "Clocky" sound. 🤣
LMAO
My only complaint about this video is that heartrate was given in BPM and not WPM
Damn missed opportunity for sure
boutta buy that eyellow tofu and fill it with pennies and then cry myself to sleep
Close enough
Kinda interested to see the result of that kbdfans standoff covers build, will you be willing to make a video of it?
I don’t have the board but I built it on stream and it sounded nice. Honestly sounded like the FB60 and that video is up.
>It's not purple with GMK Taro R1 on it
Is this really endgame?
damn i only have R2. i must be a poor
@@AndyVNguyen Wish I grabbed another set in R2, honestly.
well you can use cherry taro as your backup taro set now
Finally the Korn gets its own video :)
it deserves it. it worked hard. been to hell and back
I loved this video, something a little different, great work! :)
Thank you!!
I have been in the hobby for only half a year and the thing I would LIKE to do is only buy the uniquely colored boards. I have only bought a couple E-whites so I could experiment with a couple keycaps but otherwise. I am perfectly happy waiting for a design to come out with a funky mint, or a wile lavender neon
yeah and then use wob or beige keycaps and you're golden! avoid GMK gbs!
@@AndyVNguyen I only opted into a couple GMK sets early on and man.. it’s so painful to wait :((((.. even EPBT now is on the eternal wait game
yeah i entered jtk zen and it was delayed half a year and i was like WTFFF
@@AndyVNguyen ugh pain 😔
