Normally a fretboard on an Epinette or Hummel is diatonic. You have a long way on the first melody string. All other strings are drones. This is a modern version. with the frets on the 2nd and 3rd string you can play a blues or a renaissance tune with changing from major to minor modes. But you have groups on the melody string which you can controll with your eyes.

Die Stimmung der Griffbrettsaiten ist d'd'g. Die Bordunsaiten sind dG. Die Melodie wird zumeist auf den ersten beiden Saiten gespielt, da ich das Griffbrett jedoch breiter mache, kann ich auch die g-Saite für die Melodie nutzen. Auf jeden Fall kann ich wegen des breiteren Griffbrettes auch Akkorde greifen.

Hi Wilfried, I got an eight string small dulcimer like instrument. It is a box that has three strings with a dulcimer like fretboard, and one set of two strings and one set of three strings. I have no idea what instrument it is, Might be a hummel or Scheitholt or something alike. Also don't know how to tune it or where to buy strings. Can I maybe send you a picture so you can have a look? Thanks, Barend
