This one had a lot of fascinating extras, but this is my favorite one - "The character of Mr. Pugh in the radio drama Under Milk Wood, by Dylan Thomas, is described as sporting a "nicotine-eggyellow weeping walrus Victorian moustache worn thick and long in memory of Doctor Crippen". Throughout the play, he obsessively fantasises with murdering his wife, but never attempts to do so."

I'm impressed by Keith's knowing the history of Music Halls. The first purpose built hall was the Canterbury which opened in 1853 and that was basically the start of the music halls that most think of although food etc was still a big part of it. However this was when already running theatres started getting in on the business which was the end of the old style and it became the style that's usually thought of or seen in historical films etc.
I listen often Mike and Keith seem like truly great mates, of course I picture Mike and his TC persona. Would be quite pleased to see the pod-mate that makes this content possible... That said, maybe and mind you this is just how my mind works, Mike could slip him into say the Life Insurance Dance? That way we could give him a GOO! Hey that seems like a good one to me! Real detective work for once!! Good on these cops that figured that out about the pajama cloth. 5 a.m here in Tennessee and big job interview coming up!! Thanks for easing my anxieties this morning ❤
You guys are great! You're always fun to listen you & this was another really good story. I hadn't heard of it before, so I'm happy that y'all were at the wheel during its maiden voyage for me - well done (but that's no surprise 😁)!!

To answer the tattoo/amp question. My dad had to get a chuck of his thigh removed (muscle and all) to use as a sort of prosthetic graft to avoid needing an foot amputation. He was supposed to get it removed from the injured leg, so he could still have 1 functional leg while recovering. No dice. He had a snake tat in that thigh. He picked the other one that had no tattoos on, YET. Oh! and he did end up losing half of that leg anyways, but at least he got to keep his tattoo 🤟🤟

Hi Mikeith (ok, that portmanteau didn't really work), This mystery is truly a humdinger. I'm not sure what to think 🤔 May I please suggest a podcast episode idea: *Gareth Jones* A Welsh journalist that was killed in 1935, China. He was the first western journalist to describe the Soviet Ukrainian famine - the Holodomor - as a planned act of terror and mass starvation. He is often referred to as a 'Hero of Ukraine. Many thanks from Down Under 🖤 🐨
41:00 Wow, the captain of Crippen's ship was also the captain of the Empress of Ireland (the ship that famously sunk in only 14 minutes)? That's a whole amazing story of it's own.
I think Dr. Crippen did kill Cora, if she were alive I think she'd make her presence known after he was executed, from your description she seems like that kind of person. I think your scenario at the end was probably as close as anyone could get but I think it was just Cora that was being poisoned and she made some mark on her that would implicate Crippen Although I have to say that Dr. Crippen serial killer is a great conspiracy theory: he poisons Cora but is compelled to mutilate the body and if they started digging up the yard they'd find bodies in different levels of decomposition and different levels of dissection and dismemberment
hi mike, if you're interested in covering older crimes, i suggest you cover the Peck Family poisonings by Dr. Arthur Warren Waite in 1916, it's pretty bonkers

Oh, the hacking off of the ... bits ... would make a lot of sense with the "Cora's lover" theory. I'd bet Mike is right, and Cora is wherever the rest of the cellar body went. Although the doctor retaining the lover's body and disposing of his wife's is exceptionally wild. I think that speaks to his true feelings for Cora, as if there would be any lingering doubt after all that.

Fun fact about creepy old photos and why they look dead: they are! Or at least, one person in the photo often is. Because it took so long to take a photo, and you have to stay completely still that entire time, families often didn't get a portrait done until AFTER somebody died. Portraits of that person were taken usually alone, propped up like they are alive, you see these type of old portraits pretty commonly in old houses, but sometimes a spouse or even the whole family would get in on it, and that's why everyone has a creepy expression and nobody ever looks very thrilled to be in the picture.I'm going to guess that the man farthest left in this photo is the dead guy

Or, since she was very dominating, she may have forced him to kill someone that pissed her off. Maybe a critic of her shitty talents? I dunno. But this is indeed a fascinating story! I think she ran off with someone in the long run though. He may have been too embarrassed to admit it at the time and maybe that's why his story kept changing.
