    I have a 2021 power wagon. I have been watching your videos forever. You have saved me so much money! From not getting onboard air, to this dual battery thing. You name it. I cannot thank you enough for spending money, than giving empirical evidence on why I shouldn’t. You are the f”$&ing man. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your input and experience on all things Overlanding.

    Just watched and liked the video, (as always) and stayed till the end where you talked about the badge of honor program Jeep has. It’s a really neat program for all of us Jeep owners. I recently bought a 98 Jeep Xj and my badges from my trip to Moab will be here tomorrow! There’s no community like the Off-road/Overland community.

    I considered going the dual battery mostly for my cooler. However after doing some research I decided to first try an Odyssey Extreme when the OEM battery in my 2017 JK died. I installed an Odyssey Extreme group 34R and it will run my cooler for well over 12 hours in the most extreme heat and there is still sufficient voltage to start the engine. Yes the Odyssey Extreme is expensive but cheaper than 2 qualities batteries and the dual battery conversion kit. Many years ago I had a dual battery setup on my 1980 CJ 5. This was mostly for my winch but batteries have improved a lot since the 1980’s. Yes I carry a small jump start battery just in case.

    One of the big reasons for a dual battery in the JL/JT is that the factory battery system is a defective poorly engineered 1.5 battery setup which leads to failures, the dual battery setup can mitigate this

    Its funny because the 'mud caves' anza borrego area got me into wheeling. I had a 2017 ram rebel when I first went. I ended up flipping it out there, poor line planning and in-experience caused it. but that got me hooked. a few weeks later I went and bought a 2020 Jeep Gladiator rubicon, and I couldn't be happier. Cant wait for the day when I meet you and the boys one day.

    Brad, as I suggested on another of your videos, for a classic Jeep look at a 1966-1971 CJ6 with the Buick 225 V6. They're dirt simple and have decent room for gear. If you're really getting a Cherokee Chief look at 1970-1974. Strip all the smog stuff off and install a TBI F.I. Also look into swapping out the Quadatrac T-case for a Dana 300.

Looking at my 1st dedicated over-landing rig (currently a 97 TJ on 33" is my DD and weekend getaway rig). Good morning brad! I hope all is well with you and the fam. I’ve enjoyed your new approach of making the best of it in these quarantine times with the garage coffee and answering viewers questions. I like that you address that routine maintenance is major priority before and after your o
    ff-road trip or road trip in general, including fluid levels and torque specs. I’m not sure if this is already available or not, but I thought a quick reference guide/s (laminated flash cards) of torque specs and bolt for jeeps and other vehicles to keep in the glove compartment for shake down bolt checks. Of course this opens a can of worms for many many numbers for component of many vehicles, especially when aftermarket components have been installed, but I though it would be cool to have. It could also be good information content for the E3 network. Here is something if found on northridge 4x4.
    www.northridge4x4.com/pages/quick-reference-chart
    If you use this on your garage coffee questions:
    From:
    John H. Beaumont, Texas
    Hey Brad, before and after your road trips, what do you use to reference for your steering and suspension components torques specs?

    As an SJ owner, I want to advise you to look hard. Good unmolested rigs are still out there. Bring your wallet. You will be disappointed on just how little aftermarket support they have compared to the little jeeps (TJ,JK etc) The classic jeeps have issues as well, spark boxes, power wires into the regulator in the dash burning and poor quality control. That being said there's nothing like the old SJ's, mine gets a lot of attention just be prepared to have it called a scout or a bronco to those that don't know that jeep used to make big stuff :)

      Hi Parker, Brad mentioned the perfect starter vehicle for overlanding (traveling off-road), and they are decent enough for off-roading (technical 4x4) too, and that is the Jeep XJ. I always recommend them to people. The ones between 1987 and 2001 with the 4.0 straight-six are very decent vehicles. They have enough room to carry your gear and are nimble enough off road. And there are shed loads of spares and kit made for them. There is even an entire Baja racing class just for them! Just like any vehicle purchase, make sure you get a good one. Dirt cheap ones are cheap for a reason. Best of luck and see you out there!

    • @Psyberdream
      @Psyberdream 4 роки тому

      Diminishing returns I imagine. How fast do you need your trail rig? How much fuel do you wanna waste with go fast stuff? How much more will you need to carry? Can you go to any parts store to repair that go fast stuff? Stock stuff is easier to deal with on the trail, and if you break it someone might have a spare with them. Not much chance of that if your powerplant is modded out. If that makes sense? Now the rock racers and buggies? oh yeah all kinds of power adders, but those are trailer queens the rest of the time.

    • @Psyberdream
      @Psyberdream 4 роки тому

      @@Ali-bz9gd i have seen some, on the 3.8 in the jk a pretty common bolt on is a supercharger, though tbh the 3.8 is still pretty gutless even with it. Litebrite ran one on a jl and it slagged the motor. On my j10 I have done upgrades less for power and more for reliability, holley 4160 carb, edelbrock intake,cam,timing set. Converting to HEI Ignition on constant fuel. Performance for me increased but my goal was something easier to live with and keep going. Maybe others have a similar goal?

    Hey Brad as a veteran offroader in the jk can i ask you if in your offroading adventures you get coolant running a bit high at times when you push it for instance around the 230f mark? I get this at times when i push my jk in the desert it climbs halfway midpoint between middle and 3/4 and drops to middle in less than a minute and the coolant temp sets at 230 ish even if i push hard...normal driving even offroad i m solid at 200f and middle of the gauge ...do you get this too?

    It’s amazing watching this two years later and hearing about CVD. It made me angry all over again that Newsom shut everything down while he was out dining massless. Nevermind the fact California did no better than the states that remained opened. Two years of all our lives wasted for his ego.

    People keep saying the trails are closed in California. I can assure you, the vast majority of trails are completely open. Went Jeeping yesterday, Pilot Rock, 2N17X, up through Lake Arrowhead. We even passed a Ranger on the trail who we waved to as we drove by..

    See you got the covid-19 hair-style😉
    Noticed you have more than a few handhelds. Do you keep them all charged and ready to go in case of emergency?
    I like you work bench area! Really can’t wait too retire from the military one day and have a garage with work bench. Have to have a temp area each time a new project comes up like the hood louver hopefully I can do soon(messed up a hood hinge bolt and don’t own a welder so waiting for my Jeep to go to the shop).
    I don’t think I’ve watched that review of the AEV camper setup. Looks legit but it reminds me of all the times I’ve gone out to do field training in a Army HMMWV. Plus gotta have the back seat for the kids. If anything a build like that but towed😉
    For the nuts and bolts that you carry extra when you hit the trail, which components of nuts and bolts do you carry? Been thinking about getting an organizer for my garage but would be smart to have a smaller one for the trail.
    I’d say I’m curious of the time you’re talking about camping out on the beach and knowing when is “high-tide”? Since being stationed out here in Hawaii for over four years for myself and seven years for my wife I want to say we’re beached out, but I can say we’ll come back to the beach probably in the future over in California or some others on our travels when we’re back in the mainland.
    Dam those cabinets look nice! Another retirement thing to put on my wish list😉.
    Lol, babysitting someone on the trail! Sorry that made me laugh. But I’d be curious what trails would you recommend that would give you a good experience prior to trying to tag along with you and Marco?
    Ya I’m looking forward to starting to getting my badges for trails, but at the same time it’s not that I want to get the badges but also make it an experience hopefully with my family(wife may have to step out for the obstacles if she thinks their questionable).
    Enjoyed the garage coffee! Awesome video!

    My transitioning from GM2 to Civilian job was walking across the street to So Cal Edison at the Long Beach Generation Station.. sadly that was short lived as Edison's push for deregulation completely screwed things up.. Edison sold all of their steam generation plant..Been working for DWR for 25yrs since the sell off.. I sure loved operating Long Beach Gen Sta, circa 1928 equipment repowered with Combustion Turbines.. In 1994 after the Northridge Earth Quake, our crew/shift saved the day/grid & San Onofre by being the first plant online to send a 230kv line to Lighthipe and then down to San Onofre.. I think I worked 18hrs that day.. I'll never forget that quake, it shook LBGS for 20mins due to the plant is standing on 40ft creosote poles driven into the mud to bedrock side-by-side.. felt like sea state 5 ocean conditions.. lol
