I have a 2021 power wagon. I have been watching your videos forever. You have saved me so much money! From not getting onboard air, to this dual battery thing. You name it. I cannot thank you enough for spending money, than giving empirical evidence on why I shouldn’t. You are the f”$&ing man. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your input and experience on all things Overlanding.

You know what, I really love these Garage Coffee episodes. Its so good to actually see you just yourself and all the mistakes. First, let me say I love every one of your "regular" videos, whether they are a gear review, trail adventure, etc. HOWEVER, I think the silver lining in this Covid19 period is the opportunity for these "Garage Coffee" episodes. Episodes like these are something that everyone in a full-time channel like yours always wants to do, but never has the time due to all the other things going on in the channel. I am LOVING all the random topics, insights, fan thoughts, etc in these episodes! Thank you! Side note: after spending many years on backpacking trails deep in some mountains, and my wife and kids worrying about me, I pretty much went through the same "communications" journey. Sat phones seemed great, but often when deep in a valley you are out of the line of sight to the relatively sparse sat network. That doesn't seem to be the issue with the bi-directional text products like the Garmin InReach. I've enjoyed how simple it is to use (paired with my phone), and how well the coverage is. On to Garage Coffee ep 4 !

Just watched and liked the video, (as always) and stayed till the end where you talked about the badge of honor program Jeep has. It’s a really neat program for all of us Jeep owners. I recently bought a 98 Jeep Xj and my badges from my trip to Moab will be here tomorrow! There’s no community like the Off-road/Overland community.

People keep saying the trails are closed in California. I can assure you, the vast majority of trails are completely open. Went Jeeping yesterday, Pilot Rock, 2N17X, up through Lake Arrowhead. We even passed a Ranger on the trail who we waved to as we drove by..

Brad, thanks for providing entertainment and distraction during my covid isolation and recovery. It's kinda funny but I too had a '73 Firebird. Sold it to buy my first Jeep, an '81 Cherokee Chief Widetrack. Coolest vehicle ever. Sold that one when we moved to Thailand. Bought my son almost the exact same Jeep many years later which he still has and has great plans for. I learned to drive and tinker on a '43 Willys on my uncle's ranch as a kid and never got Jeep out of my blood. I've owned 7 wagon format Jeeps over the years and it's time for a Wrangler. Love your JK. Keep the garage coffee coming.

I love your comment about liking the SJ. I have owned 2 in my life. My first was a '73 wagoneer, 4 door.. Believe it had the 340 v8 with automatic and dual tanks. Great range and very easy to drive. So smooth on the highway and cound take some fairly rough terrain. My second was a 1985 Wagoneer 4 door. Again it was a dream to drive. Both had surprisingly tight turning. If I ever have a chance to do another project vehicle, I would look for another SJ.

My transitioning from GM2 to Civilian job was walking across the street to So Cal Edison at the Long Beach Generation Station.. sadly that was short lived as Edison's push for deregulation completely screwed things up.. Edison sold all of their steam generation plant..Been working for DWR for 25yrs since the sell off.. I sure loved operating Long Beach Gen Sta, circa 1928 equipment repowered with Combustion Turbines.. In 1994 after the Northridge Earth Quake, our crew/shift saved the day/grid & San Onofre by being the first plant online to send a 230kv line to Lighthipe and then down to San Onofre.. I think I worked 18hrs that day.. I'll never forget that quake, it shook LBGS for 20mins due to the plant is standing on 40ft creosote poles driven into the mud to bedrock side-by-side.. felt like sea state 5 ocean conditions.. lol

I considered going the dual battery mostly for my cooler. However after doing some research I decided to first try an Odyssey Extreme when the OEM battery in my 2017 JK died. I installed an Odyssey Extreme group 34R and it will run my cooler for well over 12 hours in the most extreme heat and there is still sufficient voltage to start the engine. Yes the Odyssey Extreme is expensive but cheaper than 2 qualities batteries and the dual battery conversion kit. Many years ago I had a dual battery setup on my 1980 CJ 5. This was mostly for my winch but batteries have improved a lot since the 1980’s. Yes I carry a small jump start battery just in case.

Hi Brad, I'm Shlomo Merbaum from Israel and I love your channel and especially the way you do things and your wonderful term "RockLanding" which fits perfectly my way of traveling.
Anyway there are 2 issues I wold like to know your opinion/ comment:
    A. Did you consider sleeping in your Jeep arrangment (with sleeping platform) for your JKU, especially when traveling alone?
Sleeping in the Jeep has so many advantages Vs rooftop tent- It's much more lighter, it doesn't affect the center of gravity, It's cheaper and a very nice and easy DIY project, It has better insulation especially in windy conditions, It's easy and quick to set up for a night sleep as much as a rooftop tent and even better in that then the soft rooftop tents.
The down side of sleeping in a Jeep- it is tighter and more camped and suites only 2 persons the most. It is suitable onle for 4dr. vehicles. Some sleeping in Jeep solutions needs cancellation of the second raw seats if one wants to be able to seat upright and cofortably on the sleeping platform.
    B. Why overlanding became so popular in U.S.A. only in the last few years when you have such a vast and beautiful country to explore?

Hi Brad, Love Sin Nombre! Back in the early 2000's I went with several friends to the Mud Caves. It was raining and the main wash was flowing like a river...all the way across, but only a few inches deep. We observed for awhile, and decided to cross. Not a huge deal but we all made the crossing with no issues. Such a pretty area in ABDSP! PS...we ran it with my T100 and some Tacomas!!!

Its funny because the 'mud caves' anza borrego area got me into wheeling. I had a 2017 ram rebel when I first went. If you're really getting a Cherokee Chief look at 1970-1974. Strip all the smog stuff off and install a TBI F.I. Also look into swapping out the Quadatrac T-case for a Dana 300.

My garage is a mess, never been able to find cabinets that I like until now... Will be ordering several of those you linked! Especially like the fact they are on casters...

Brad, thanks for keeping everyone entertained with your videos during the lockdown. Question: what was the first overland trip you took in state and out of state, and is there a place you recommend in Southern California for a first overlanding trip?

Really enjoy your channel: come away a bit smarter and feel inspired to try new things out there. Looking at my 1st dedicated over-landing rig (currently a 97 TJ on 33" is my DD and weekend getaway rig). I REALLY want a Gladiator (because its a Jeep thing), but I can't make the weight work safely. As I look at the kit I'll likely carry (RTT, bigger refrigerator, more water and fuel, etc.) I quickly to get be about 300# over GVWR (w/ 2 adults, 1 teen, and 2 dogs). The Tacoma is even worse. The Ranger is the only one even close - and that's

Hello Brad I have used 2 of those diesel heaters that you showed at the beginning of your video. Both have leaked diesel after using for a few short hours. There is a hole in the casting next to where the fuel pipe is attached. What the hole is for, I have no idea. I plugged the hole in the first one, which stopped the leaking, but after a few short hours of operation the glow plug stopped working. I got a replacement and it started leaking too. Also it keeps shutting down and I have to restart it. I have a plastic container under the heater to catch the leaking fuel. I have a third heater and will install it later today. I’ll let you know how it works out after using it for a few days. It does put out great heat and uses very little fuel, even though it never shuts off. There’s no thermostat control which is not appealing. You can adjust the output of the heater using the panel or wireless remote. The fuel pump is very noisy. It’s a piston pump. If you or anyone else wants more information or photos of my unit or camper trailer you can email me at cdnbvr@gmail.com. I will answer everybody. Keep up your great work sir. I also like seeing the rigs that your viewers submitted. I hope that you’ll keep doing those videos.

I've read that the Method Trail wheels are the next best thing to a beadlock wheel. Have you thought about trying these wheels out? It looks like they have a really nice design to them.

Great vid. Question for next episode. You mentioned in the question about camping with you that don't want to babysit people who are new...which I get. But as new guy in overlanding, wondering have you ever come across a site/group like overlanding 101? Guides, lessons....kinda like adult summer camp???
