Another Awesome vid! Love the haircut! :-) Phrae looks to be very interesting. Especially, the 'dog fart grass' LOL. How neat though; it can help with toothaches and gums. I simply cannot wait until COVID subsides. Thailand is definitely on the vacation/holiday list.
Youre too cool Kelly, thanks for the wide variety of compliments as usual, glad to see youre enjoying all these different aspects of what I show in these :). Have a great day, a blessed day, see you for the next one :). Or in Thailand!!!
I really appreciate you putting the traditional Thai script graphics on the screen whenever you introduce a new food. It helps me practice learning to read Thai. These blogs are great because they are entertaining and educational. Glad I found your channel Joel. Keep it up!
Awesome to see you in the comments today Robert, sorry I missed this! Yeah it’s been just over one year now, I finally feel like the workflow can be called “easy”, some days

Haha, Stephanie :). I have to smile at your comment, I guess 15 years ago, yes I would have said sort of the same thing.... well, maybe I woulda been a little curious. BUT today, oh wow, I want to try everything, the more weird the name, the more I want to try! Remember, I dont eat things that ARENT food, these are still things that are eaten every single day here. Its just that they seem weird from outside... Hi Joel - dig the new haircut ... maybe I should get one like that? Good friends & good food ... what could be better? Added bonus: you get Thai language instruction. Take good care & God Bless !
Yes, Ron :-) if you do get a haircut like this please send me a photo I would love to see :-) as always I appreciate you taking the time to send me the motivating messages. Joel, what a great video. I didn't realized they ate ควาย in the north. You seem to love Northern Thai food, and Mark loves Southern food! Who knew that 2 non Thais would teach me so much about my country's food. Thanks for keeping it local as always.
FON! This is one of the best comments ever, thats SO cool and I can speak for Mark that we are both honored in this. Wow. Have a GREAT day today, thanks for watching, thanks for this message :) :) Be blessed!!
You are great with mark and yet we get to know you better as your own person with this channel. I love watching both. And everytime I've just eaten I'm suddenly hungry again! I love it when you randomly meet a beautiful person that is happy to welcome you to their home! Thailand seems so friendly and you are so humble and kind.
Like usual Joel, How amazing. The rolling hills were beautiful. And the musician was just wonderful to listen to. Another vlog just full of amazing food, friends, and info of the food you can't get anywhere else. Alot of us can't get out to exercise like you do. Good morning Joel! I'm glad to see you making new video clips for us to watching. I'm trying to lose weight. But that food looks very delicious it make me really hungry. Anyway, thanks for sharing. God bless you have a wonderful day 😊✌🏻😊
Another great video Joel. Your channel is growing! I learned a lot in this one. Great friends, great food, great coffee, great music. Just loved your reaction to the dog fart grass!😂😂 Take care my friend.

You're killing it Joel. Truly. Look forward to your vids. Throwing a shout-out to a local musician is awesome. Watching you translate a menu, does a symbol above a character indicate a different word? The cuts at 5:24 look so GOD damn good, Jesus. Really love how they bring out 15 dishes too....I really wish restaurants here would serve food like this...- not just the servings, but so damn fresh. No fast food restaurants there! Sa-Leun looks damn delicious. Heh, I love how they tell you the name, AFTER you take a bite. :D PS really enjoy you on the Big on Spice channel! Hope the both of you are a staple on that channel.
Oh wow man. Matthew - really, REALLY appreciate your comments, all the time man, just so awesome!! Super cool you are feeling this one, haha I can tell! And hey let me tell you man (and you know I have at least a bit of experience in this) - this was like, possibly top 20 meals in my Thailand life so far. EVERY dish on the table was not just good, but a GREAT version of what it was. The guy in the blue shirt is one of my closest Thai friends, and he has been telling me about this place for a long time. Finally got to go and.... wow. Yeah, 3 of those dishes were literally mind-blowing. I might still be in awe also that theres something called 'Dog Fart Grass' used as medicine hahahaha :) :) I love Thailand. And i love your comments man. Thanks so much for taking the time to write me like that today - all the best man!!!!!!!!
Pike!! Hahah I guess I’m not sure right? Well OK, in all honesty yes, we both know that heaven will be several hundred times even more beautiful than this… Which is honestly hard for our earthly bodies to imagine :-) all the best my friend, hope today is treating you well
Morning Joel, love watching your clips, and the way you make all the dishes sound so amazing. Having eaten a fair bit of Northern food mostly in Lampang I find a lot of there dishes hard to get used to eating. I hope I can enjoy them as much as you in the future Keep up the hard work God bless
Duncan! Yes!! Lampang is another Home of local Northern food thats for sure, ah so cool that you have had experience there! I did some volunteering in Chae Hom for 2 weeks actually, so I know just a LITTLE of the secrets that Lampang local life has to offer :). GOtta go back!! :) Have a great day today, happy to see you enjoying these, thanks for the great comments as well :). God bless!
Another awesome video!!! Did no one want raw dishes because of fear of bacteria or something? Wondering if raw salads and produce are ok to eat over there if they were washed with tap water.
Good question! And thanks for watching Melissa!! Well, traditionally there are many raw meat dishes on a table, in both the North, and the NorthEast here, and so I just wanted to make sure to eat more healthy, especially during this Covid time. To be an example, but also to take care of my health - Im not so young anymore, I dont need to keep risking my health just for a single tasty dish :)
haha I just watched your video of your Chiang mai food tour with the pad khao soi thinking it was this one it was interesting how she made it look like a pineapple thai's do eat with there eyes my favorite dish in thialand was khao soi from a place called Dr manny cafe next to Wat Mo Kham Tuang. This video was amazing as always loved the time lapse while you were eating . Next time when i come back i will have to try the bile although i dont think i will like it lol , longan was also one of my favorite fruits i tried but there are so many . Looking forward to part 2
So cool that is such a positive and awesome message. Glad to see you enjoying and really, thank you for always taking the time to write me afterwards. I love it I appreciate it, have a great day today
Wow, love the detailed breakdown of each plate and sauce. Praise God for your showing Grace:) Don't think we're trying bile though😬 Kim, my wife's a nurse and just the mention is a negative. But still, everything looks wonderfully delicious. Love your textural breakdown of the foods. We lived in China for several years but these unique northern Thai recipes are more adventurous than we're used to :) Talk about a feast! Though dog fart medicine??? Yep, sure looks funky. Thank you for this yummy share Joel, sending Blessings, James and Kim
I’m impressed with your Thai language. When I saw u on Mark few videos, I thought you would be speaking mostly English, tho you spoke few Thai. Having your own channel now, you speak very good Thai. Foods looks so delicious!
Hi Joel here you are M. bicycle back to the road with nice hair style love it new star is born (singer) people are friendly enjoy your trip stay safe thanks.
😍Your camera work is getting so great Joel! You've come a long way my friend! I can't wait til you guys come back to southern California 😁. I'm grateful mark brought me to you❤ Cheers brother in Christ
This made me realize how deeply good it is to share a delicious meal with good friends in nice weather. I looove Som Tam. But here in the States it's never made right unless it's homemade.
Unique cuisine, love it! Joel, when you go on multi day bike trips, do you know where you're going to sleep or do you keep on the lookout for hotels? I'm wondering if it ever gets late at night and it takes you a long time to spot a hotel. Anyway, keep safe so you can keep making videos like this!
Great food and good friends best combo. I enjoyed while learning, dog fart what a name😂the restaurant and people are lovely, P'Nook made a great choice thank you for sharing, safe travels guys ❤
Hi Joel, You are so polite with the elderly when you speak Thai. I think the lady wants to adopt you. You do not have any problem looking for Thai wife. BTW congratulations to your Thai teacher.
Hi Chow Fun!! Well, those are hilarious, and heartfelt as well, comments today, thanks for taking the time to write! I havent had a Thai teacher actually, I just learned from EVERY Thai person who was kind enough to share time with me :) !!!
1:45 Fun fact. That is an Indian Almond tree. The tannin from its dry leafs is one of the contributing factor to the hugely successful Plakat industry of Thailand.
That is a fun fact Frank that’s so super cool :-) hey I guess that explains why it’s also a super common tree in Jamaica? The British would have planted seeds from this in the west Indies as well?
Such a great voice, so pleasant to listen to and you do an excellent presentation of the area and cultures! Hope to see more of your videos! Best wishes
Hi Joel, great trip again. Video quality going up too, nice👌. About the Thai language: I struggle with the different high and low tones..any advice on how to learn this? I mix them up all the time. Thanks.
You can do it! Just more and more (and more and more) practice Kim. I think its more about the ears, and then about the confidence that you CAN do it. Maybe try this way - try to clear your mind of what you THINK is happening (with the sound), and just look at the mouth of the speaker, or think of only following what they are doing. Second step (if the first one is no problem) - try to come up with words/things/memories in English that you can use as tricks, or clues to yourself, which one goes with which thing. Actually this is a trick Ive seen recommended for language learning in general, so I hope it will work here. How are you learning, may I ask? Online lessons? Just studying yourself?
Sabaidee Joel 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 nothing like starting my Friday off w/ your video !!! I’m home bound due to Covid .. waiting for results .. & keeping me happy with your videos & the delicious foods & your beautiful self & your friends!!! Be & stay safe & Buddha bless my friend!!! 🙏🏽❤️ love from NJ USA 🇺🇸
👨🏫🤳🚲 Nice...👍 I really like how you introduce your guests and genuinely ask them questions to help them open up and feel comfortable. Also, your hair looks perfect. Yup that's the signature look👍👍 The best part is how now you are praying outloud🙏
you got me craving thai food sooo bad now! i love how i can always go on these foodie adventures with you and see all your beautiful surroundings.... ahhhh i miss papaya salad sooo much!! i've never had many things with bile in it since it's not so common usually where i go or am but it'd be fun to try! also, so curious as to what dog farts taste like now hahahahhah..... ^^ hope your week is going well! can't wait for the next video!
Tiffany!! You miss Thailand, but I think I have missed your comments! Super cool seeing you checking this video out... and yea, would LOVE to throw down on a meal just like this with you someday! Thats cool that you are willing to admit youre now thinking about dog farts.... hahahah :) :)
Frances No problem at all and I am so glad to see you enjoying it :-) yes this place was truly incredible, even in Thailand, this is a star shining bright
Wow, you're so much better when you're on cam alone Joel! You should make more videos like this independent from Mark! So sorry but I used to be annoyed with you when you were on Mark's videos cos it seemed to me like you were emulating Mark, but man! You have an amazing presence on cam when you're alone! Keep making these! Cheers man!!!
More to come! And thanks SO much for the support until now! Hey, do you have a favorite video series where I joined Mark? They are always such a treat, theres no one I would rather travel with, and Im so lucky he and his family still invite me to this day... what a collection of memories over the years. And I definitely can use them to benefit this current work as well!! Cheers to you as well, thanks so much for the comments today.
Hi Joel, I like when you went to Lima,Peru. You guys had those hot chiles, while you ate the porky. That's what they called the pig,you ate. I cracked up. Much love from, CA.
When you see someone's mother cooking in the restaurant, you know the food is going to be awesome! She's got all the recipe memorized that were passed down through generations.
Hey joel, I try to learn something new everyday, you my friend make it so easy with every awesome video. Btw, you are rocking the new hairstyle at the back and the Clark Gable moustache in the front. Looking forward to part 2. Stay blessed Joel. 👊
Haha Mike man, thanks so much (looking forward to part 2, too cool). Yo, great words about the videos really, Mike you are awesome. I dig the support SO much! (Im going to check out Clark Gable, I dont know who this is actually!). Have a great day today man, peace, and love!!
You’ve always been so sweet and amazing with such a special love for all life and experience. I’ve never “picked on you”. You’re just outdoing yourself now! 💕👍🏻✌️🙏🏻
Loto!! Yo!!! Hope all is well today, super cool seeing the comment and hey, I hope youre well today! Thanks for taking the time to always write, even short ones, its super cool man thank you.
No problem Joel! You rock dude! Glad I can be here every upload. Your videos have become a daily routine for me. You seem like such a friendly and kind person and I love your personality. Thanks for always replying and sharing your awesome videos with us. Much much love, brother.
Thanks for another nice video! And indeed, looking fresh with the new haircut. Question: can you explain why some Thai (jokingly?) call each other lamyai?
Northern Thai food looks were its at, that looks like an explosion of flavor, i love how in depth you explain the flavor, you got my mouth watering now lol
I really like your comment, yes I guess because I love them now, I guess I forgot what it was like to try them for the very first time. A leap of faith is a beautiful thought, weather for food, or for other things :-) have a great day, thanks for taking the time to write
Looking at this video an do love it ....wow Joel u took a really low hair cut....very impressive looking forward to ur next video.....love from Trinidad. ❤❤🙏🙏
Why is nobody eating raw food? Corona? The weather? I am curious to hear. And I noticed no rice on the table. That surpriced me. What a beautiful scenery to watch. You could make relaxing video's. Reading nice poems while showing great scenery.
In Hawaii all I can get is fermented Vietnamese fish sauce and also the Phillipino baguun do u know which one is similar to Thai? Thankyou man great videos
They have to be amazing cooks because i can't imagine eating bile! But it really looks good with all those herbs!! I love your subtitles, I might learn something new. :)
Such a variety of aroy looking dishes! My local asian grocery finally got pla ra in stock! So, I am looking forward to making som tam with that. But, I have to use zucchini, because it's hard to get the green papaya (and there's lots of zucchini coming from the garden now). I've heard about parasite issues with homemade pla ra, is that really something you have to look out for when you eat somewhere that makes their own, or is that just people on the internet blowing smoke?
Sounds great! Super great, haha I am happy to wait for whatever it is you make with that :). I am sure you can use zucchini, it will just be a new dish :). but all the other stuff should still be fine, thats the beauty of the TAM style anyways! Yes, eating raw PlaRaa is definitely a risk, so nowadays its very rare to find any that isn't boiled before being used in salad. I dont know an exact number, but MOST places you have nothing to worry about.
Padu Beb!! Padube man, I’m so happy to see your name here thanks so much for the support! You are one of the coolest bloggers we have ever visited, I hope you keep doing what you’re doing man. Your heart is in the right place, stay motivated stay cool, always looking forward to more of your travels. All the best today man, be well, I hope we can meet together again
Some of the foods here look very similar to the cuisine in the Northwest region of Vietnam. Hope you and Mark will travel and make videos there one day!
Hey Joel, the elderly lady at the beginning of the video 1:07 looks so much like my late grandma who is originally from Chiang Mai... I'm wanting to track down my lost roots in Thailand. Could you tell me where this place was exactly? And if you might have her name also. My grandma took on the name Hilly Cheah when she came to Malaysia 80 years ago... I believe her original surname was Chirawat...
This is an amazing message indeed!!! Oh wow! What if its really her?! I do tell the exact location in both Thai and English in the video actually... and the google maps also follows. Her name (the only name I heard) is "Mae Pikun," like the restaurants name. This is amazing wow, please let me know what you discover!
@@JoelsTastyRide I hope the borders open soon... my heart burns for the Thai people.. they need to hear the good news.. and I'd like to get in touch with long lost relatives in that region...

But still, everything looks wonderfully delicious. Love your textural breakdown of the foods. We lived in China for several years but these unique northern Thai recipes are more adventurous than we're used to :)
Talk about a feast!
Love watching your show Joel learning new things

Hi Joel. That was an incredible looking meal. I could see from everyone’s faces how delicious the dishes were. Thank you for sharing.
I enjoy how you try to teach us the language, as well. I taught Spanish, to kids too. My best students were the Indian children. It was fun.
Sticky rice, Laab, somtam n salads, nem.... the best and most addictive combinations because of the herb , combinations!!!! Wow Woweee!!!!
Ive said it before and it is worth repeating..... You are just the sweetest human ever!! Love what you do!

Alma! :). Thank you, that is beautiful! Thank you for sharing.

When you see someone's mother cooking in the restaurant, you know the food is going to be awesome! She's got all the recipe memorized that were passed down through generations.
YES, you know Kevin, you know!! She was famous in this town for years Im sure... but now I hope shes famous outside of Thailand as well.

Thanks for watching Atul, hope you enjoy your day today!
What lovely friends, Joel. We are blessed to have a chance to see these experiences, even though some of the dishes need a large leap of faith 😉.
I really like your comment, yes I guess because I love them now, I guess I forgot what it was like to try them for the very first time. A leap of faith is a beautiful thought, weather for food, or for other things :-) have a great day, thanks for taking the time to write
When this channel grows beyond expectations I can say I Was here from the start.

Good morning Joel. Have a blessed day and always be safe on the Road. 🙏😊
Love your vids Joel. Only wish I was game enough to try the foods you eat lol.
You can do it! Sader, when I was young, I was (not picky but) a very boring eater! At home maybe I still am, haha.
You are very lucky to have such awesome Thai friends...especially P'Num:)
Why is nobody eating raw food? Corona? The weather? I am curious to hear. And I noticed no rice on the table. That surpriced me.
What a beautiful scenery to watch. You could make relaxing video's. Reading nice poems while showing great scenery.
Not much of raw meat food by Thais. We eat sticky rice with NE and Northern food.
@@onponnoy5403 Thanks so much for helping me answer :). thats awesome, really! I mean it :) :)
Thank you for sharing the gifts of the Spirit, JOY !
In Hawaii all I can get is fermented Vietnamese fish sauce and also the Phillipino baguun do u know which one is similar to Thai? Thankyou man great videos
I agree with last comment. Keep up the good work Joel. God bless
I live that you are using what’s available for your dishes!
Endless choices of traditional food...and discovering this part of Thailand.
Francis! Hope youre well today :). Thanks so much for watching!

18:54 Dog Fart Grass?! I never knew such thing exist... LOL.
Watching your video making me miss home.😊 thank you for the great video na ka.😊
Nice greeny view....stay safe healthy JOEL GOD BLESS
