Evgeny Belyaev looks and sounds every inch the Russian soldier he once was. While he sings with all his immense skill and charm, you really can see the steely resolve in his eyes, especially during the last few bars when he repeats the word Soldier three times. I wish I could have seen him perform with the Red Army Choir, but am so pleased that thanks to Mikhail Kharitonov, we have these marvellous videos in which he - and others- 'live' again!

My pleasure! But I'm not Leonid. Leonid Mikhailovich died in 2017.
Yevgeny Belyaev is really skilled and professional singer. I love how accordion and Yevgeny fits perfect. Also, Yevgeny's eyes and expressions accentuate the song really skillfully. I should say, Evgeny looks like a veteran soldier. He reads the letter and sings the song so meaningfully.
By the way Mr. Kharitonov, i have a question. Where do you find these clips? Do you have these clips in your house or you find these in an archive office or other kind of place?
