Fantastic video Lockstin!🖒 I really loved your whole public television-style documentary, really set a nice tone to the the whole thing. Thank you so much for your theories of 2017, and I look forward to seeing what the channel has in store for 2018. See you next year!
I think that this war could be why we barely see any steel types at all in kanto, they contain metals and if not used for materials most of them are pretty good in battle. most of the steel types would've disappeared from the enviorement, while their pre-evolved forms could still trive, or if it was the case that they had a purpose that didn't require them to battle or die, like as a power supply.
maybe steel types were discovered, and then they found ways to make certain pokémon evolve into steel types, which would be stronger in warfare since they had more resistances. take for instance steelix and scizor. natural steel types would be skarmory and forretress.
I have some ideas: 1. Jotho has a city with a lighthouse and more posible harbors than Kanto. 2. Kanto could spent all its metal resources in the war and many Steel type pokémon eats metals or minerals. 3. Prof. Oak ask to a kid to "complete" the pokédex, a pokémon encyclopedia, to check the actual pokémon species that lives in the region. And pokémon like magnemite where in the pokédex just like some old data from the original pokémon species of the region
it wouldnt make much sense to use the steel pokemon themselves as materials. since most wild steel types eat some form of metal, and as it can be assumed they are able to find underground metals to eat, it would make more sense to use them to help mine for metals (with steelix for example), plus, steel types CAN eat other forms of food, so they wouldnt be compelled to just devour whatever they find if they were being well fed
I want it to be expanded upon but for that to work Game Freak needs to have the games grow up more. Take longer steps than before. Needs a ton of despair. The potential is all there, we've seen it. Do it. Imagine you playing an 18 years old or older character who ends up playing a part of a recently or a long standing war between huge countries or a world war. That would be insane. Pokémon you battle in the battlefields don't faint, they die. The player clearly can't have their Pokémon die. The post game can easily be played out after the war or in a time of truce or in the waiting for a future operation. This would not be a Pokémon games for kids but the kids will end up craving to play this. It always happens because kids want what we adults get. Clearly my overview idea wish story for Pokémon needs to be worked on heavily for it all to work and make sense but the concept is my main point of what I would want to see.
That sounds cool in theory and all, but it will never happen. That kind of story would damage the Pokemon brand. We can talk all we want but there is a reason why the franchise is still relevant after 20+ years, The Pokemon company knows how to protect and use it's IP.

You guys did such a great job making this feel like a documentary with the cuts. Toby somehow sounds exactly like every person ever interviewed for a documentary.
We should have a T or M rated pokemon game based on the Kanto war or something telling reason why war had happened and possibly play as the fathers of red or gold or something Also there should be a cut scene where the Kantonian people are arriving home from Alola with Alolan pokemon which shows how we got alolan Vulpix and stuff
LadyPugMaster the problem with that is that parents or grandparents tend to buy games like Pokemon on reputation and don't read the rating until after their kid has been playing it for a few hours.... Nintendo doesn't like people suing them, even if they win, cause it ruins their reputation....
TheApexSurvivor well that is but that is why there are the rating Symbols and parents should watch on what they are buying But still I do agree on what you say
What if it wasn't between Kanto and Johto, but AGAINST Kanto and Johto. What if it was a war between Kanto and Johto V.S Unova and .... ALOLA!!! And what if after one side surrendered, the exchanged native pokémon as a peace offering. The Pokémon adapted and became alolan and kantoan forms. Alola gave Kanto: Exeggutor, Rattata/Raticate, and Diglet Whereas Kanto gave Alola all the other alolan forms except for grimer and muk. They just sorta were there. And each Pokémon adapted accordingly. With the exeggutor getting shorter and losing the dragon type, and marowak getting the fire type, and other things. You get the idea.
think about it though, where is blues mother? he lives with his sister before the events of the game and it can be assumed that professor oak spends most of his time in his lab, not going home much
The quality, intrigue, and pacing of this video have me really excited for the content you'll bring us in the coming year. I'm digging the documentary format of this video, too.
Uh. Two big issues; 1) The tower burned down after being hit by a lightning bolt, that’s what Raikou symbolizes? Not due to war. 2) Cianwood certainly has a Center?? It’s where the Gym guide hides because he’s afraid of Chuck and his Trainers!
Connor Budi these are not really major issues, his theory still stands due o explicit mentions of war by surge and the lack of middle aged men and fathers as well as proof of other wars (showing that war can happen in pokemon)
@@muhammadmussa6153 I never said that there can't be war or his theory on that was incorrect. I said one of his facts was wrong. It's like saying "WWII happened because Hitler was an alien." If I dispute that he was an alien, that doesn't mean the war didn't transpire.
I don't know know how well this theory stands up, But it does get you thinking. The presentation of your videos is amazing, and the segments with BKT are very well shot! Onward to Gen 8 and onward to 2018!
Awesome video Lockstin! I had always wondered about that myself as a kid, but didn't put too much thought into it until I got older. Makes you wondering if Kanto and Johto are going to team up and take over other places.
This was an amazing video, some of the best you've have done :) Not just the theory, which is darn good, but the whole interview tone which for a second makes you forget about your issues, and inmerse in the pokemon world.
This is the kind of creativity that makes me really hope that Gnoggin thrives into 2019. I loved how you made Toby a person from the Pokémon world who keeps giving his thoughts on the theory as it progresses. Also YASS TOBY MY BOI
There's this ROM hack called Pokemon FireRed Rocket Edition. It's a ROM hack about how you're playing as a Team Rocket Grunt that has to do missions for Giovanni. The Kanto War plays a role in the game. Play it to find out more about the war.
Gen 8: Poke-world war. A global conflict has erupted between the regions, each region's military has gained the alligence of that region's legendary pokemon, and you, as the player, are caught in the middle, but just as the fighting begins to wind down, the Ultra beasts invade, prompting the warring factions to join together to fight the new threat.
Maybe in Pokemon sun and moon you and your mum move away from Kanto because of the war. The dad is probably still fighting in Kanto and that’s why he sends you letters instead of just going to Alola. One problem with this theory is the events of alola are later on and red and blue are grown up.
@@matheussandbakk9959 Low Key Prof oak was probably lying to us when he said I need you to complete the pokedex. His true intentions were to have us gain all the pokemon and have all the posible knowlegde to later send us to fight for the war cause😂
Next pokemon game is rumored to be in spain and on the switch. Guess in a way, you are right, lockstin. It's all coming together. And we might be battling at the straights of Gibraltar. Shall we have some fun? Will we see a full scale war break out in gen 8? Good luck next year, Lockstin. We'll all need it~
Base Tempest You know now that I'm thinking about it, wasn't Spain going through a fascist period after ww2 until the 70s when the supposed prince at the time (I forgot his name) decided to get rid of fascism in Spain after the previous leader died? If Pokemon were to relate the gen 8 story based on historical events (I mean I doubt it but u never know), then maybe this could be the story of ur character along with anti-villain team trying to take back the region from the villain team that took over.
I love this Cx I'm not one for conspiracy.....proceeds with conspiracy. Great job and I love seeing you guys work together since you're both great poketubers.
I like the idea that Kanto and Johto didn't fight each other, but have been united for generations. It's possible that they share a league because they are long standing allies. The war would've been with other regions. But which ones?
I would personally like to see a video compiling what we know about unovan history and trying to make a full timeline of it. Unova has a very rich history that has yet to be fully uncovered.
This was actually awesome! I loved the whole conspiracy documentary take on it. I felt like I was watching something I legitimately could have seen on Netflix or the like. The Kanto-Johto war theory is one I've always been fascinated by. It's a shame Gamefreak has never done anything official with it, and the idea behind it was pretty much abandoned after Gen 2. I'd love to know the story here because clearly it was envisaged originally as an important yet mysterious background as to how the regions came to be and why the economies function as they do now, where, as you said, the economy is driven entirely by a system founded on Pokemon battling.
According to bulbapedia, "The Whirl Islands used to be one large island. At some point in time, there were two countries fighting over the island. Lugia, the guardian of the island, got upset and cast lightning bolts to tear the island into four pieces. It then disappeared into the deep end of the waterfall basin, longing for the invisible trust between people and Pokémon to manifest once more." What if this event triggered the war. War over territories between Kanto and Jhoto.
Love the style of the video, brings up some good questions on the past history of Kanto and Johto in the HeartGold/SoulSilver universes. Makes me eager for someone to make a fan Romhack on the war based on the information we have in game- that'd be so interesting to play through.
Why can't I like this more than once?? This video was great! The way it's made like a documentary is a really fun change of pace and all the thought and effort you guys put into it really shows :) Thank you for all these amazing videos this year! And Happy New Year to you and the crew!
I don't say this often, but this was a great video. A lot of backed-up information, and I like the documentary approach. Two things; science and technology improve and development at incredible rates during wars. We probably wouldn't even have computers without the training systems they made for soldiers. Secondly, with the peace thing at the end, maybe the war was so devastating that even though one side won, they decided that neither wanted to fight anymore and joined together.
This video was awesome! I love the documentary format. There’s a part of me now that wants to dive deep and theorize and write about events in the war and what could have happened.
I knew the Pokemon world was a little too nice to be true. "Pokemon are our friends, not weapons of mass destruction." And my personal favorite, "To bring out the best of your Pokemon, is the bond between Pokemon and Trainer." Heard that a thousand times from every Professor ever. My Pokemon only get strong from mass genocide(Or genofaint or fainticide) of other Pokemon.
I really like the style of these videos! It really draws me in and makes it feel more real, like a History Channel documentary. Keep up the great work!
Oh, wow, old school theory. As in I think this is the first pokemon theory I ever saw on the internet back in the early 00s. Really nice presentation you went with here.
I doubt there was a war between the two regions, but the creators grew up during the Cold War, which technically included conflicts in Korea & Vietnam. I was ultimately hoping to see some sort of wartime adventures that parallels real world history & such…
Wow, my old art got featured [scottwolf14], but I must say it was a good year for you man. Your content has evolved and the quality has improved the most out of it all. Proud of you man, half a million, I look forward to what's in store for next year.
My personal theory is that this was a world war that broke out after pokeballs were invented and Kanto and Johto actually fought on the same side. Team Rocket was reformed by Giovanni to not just be criminal, but on the ideal that the twin regions should never have lost the war and all pokeballs and therefore all pokemon belong to Kanto and Johto.
I really enjoyed the faux documentary style of this video, I don't know if that will be a common technique you use in your reworked Gnoggin brand but I thought you pulled it off very well and it had a good tone to it. Obviously it was pretty short for something styled like a documentary, and you only had one guest "expert," but you can't be faulted for that, what matters is that it was stylistically on point
I assumed the war was so bad that the people in charge were like, "Screw this, let's have some animal fighting tournament instead." so a MAD situation doesn't occur.
Not really a fan of this Theory. Lt. Surge comes from Unova which is confirmed in the Black/White series and which is also confirmed to be Pokémon's version of New York. In Red and Blue it looks like Lt. Surge has probably been granted an honorable discharge from the military and judging by his appearance isn't ready to leave the army behind and would jump back into a war if need be, it also takes 16/22 years to get the title of Lt. Colonel which is what we can guess he is as (according to bulbapedia) he was a Commanding Officer and that title (according to what I found on Google) is mainly a position for Lieutenant Colonels, I also think he's about 40 which gives time for him to fight in a war, earn his titles and settle into a basically a new life as a gym leader learning a different language and all (Google says his age is 34 but that's hard to believe as he would have just gotten that Lt. Colonel title at that age at the earliest if he enrolled when he was 18 so he wouldn't have been able to do alot of other stuff). In short I think the War that was talked about happened early in his Army career because he was in the thick of things to the point he had to use his Pokémon to paralyze his enemies. While a Lt. Colonel is in the thick of things they aren't to the level that of a soldier as they have to command the soldiers on the field so I would say the war happened a good 20 years prior to the events of Red and Blue and it shaped his career which is why he remembers it clearly. Or the war could have been his last act in the army which is why he got an honorable discharge and is where he is now deciding to stay incase he is needed again throwing my complete rebuttal out the window. 🤷♂️
Yeah Magikarp breed like hell according to the salesman, why not get a bunch and train them into Gyarados a very powerful Pokemon and destroy everything
I was wondering I you could do a follow up video, talking about the advance technology and science of this Pokemon world. An example of what I mean is, in this world they do not have to spend time and money researching weapons technology and energy generation; because they have living creatures that can do that naturally. Mean while they have developed ways of converting matter into energy (even back when Oak was a child). Then anime and movies have shown how technologically advance the Pokemon world is compared to real life and I just wanted your thoughts on the subject.
I'd personally say that diglett cave was natural, and the other tunnels were probably not mentioned as just evacuation tunnels. I think they were made because of the same reason there are guards around saffron and no other city. Yeah there is a chance they were just disguised rocket grunts, at least the ones in the games but no other city has route gate guarding every entrance in Kanto. They were probably used to block out intruders, maybe because silph co. was there making pokeballs to get pokemon to battle in the war and they didn't want silph co. being destroyed. And the tunnels were probably made so you could still get around even when saffron was guarded.

You are such a good narrator Lockstin, if someone ever offers you a voice acting gig for narration, take it!
We should have a T or M rated pokemon game based on the Kanto war or something telling reason why war had happened and possibly play as the fathers of red or gold or something
Also there should be a cut scene where the Kantonian people are arriving home from Alola with Alolan pokemon which shows how we got alolan Vulpix and stuff
LadyPugMaster the problem with that is that parents or grandparents tend to buy games like Pokemon on reputation and don't read the rating until after their kid has been playing it for a few hours....
Nintendo doesn't like people suing them, even if they win, cause it ruins their reputation....
TheApexSurvivor well that is but that is why there are the rating Symbols and parents should watch on what they are buying
But still I do agree on what you say
LadyPugMaster no it’s Ethan u Pokémon dumbass
Plz do more videos like this
What if it wasn't between Kanto and Johto, but AGAINST Kanto and Johto.
Great insight, I think your theory has some merit.
4:37: "But not just the men..."
Me:
But the women and children too.
I respect you as more than a person
think about it though, where is blues mother? he lives with his sister before the events of the game and it can be assumed that professor oak spends most of his time in his lab, not going home much
"They're like animals! And I slaughtered them like animals! I HATE them!"
The quality, intrigue, and pacing of this video have me really excited for the content you'll bring us in the coming year. I'm digging the documentary format of this video, too.
Uh. Two big issues;
1) The tower burned down after being hit by a lightning bolt, that’s what Raikou symbolizes? Not due to war.
2) Cianwood certainly has a Center?? It’s where the Gym guide hides because he’s afraid of Chuck and his Trainers!
Connor Budi these are not really major issues, his theory still stands due o explicit mentions of war by surge and the lack of middle aged men and fathers as well as proof of other wars (showing that war can happen in pokemon)
A Pokémon used thunder on the tower
@@muhammadmussa6153 I never said that there can't be war or his theory on that was incorrect. I said one of his facts was wrong. It's like saying "WWII happened because Hitler was an alien." If I dispute that he was an alien, that doesn't mean the war didn't transpire.
This is a very well edited video. I love that most of the video is made in the style of an interview. Well done Lockstin !! You earned a like.
I don't know know how well this theory stands up, But it does get you thinking.
The presentation of your videos is amazing, and the segments with BKT are very well shot!
Onward to Gen 8 and onward to 2018!
I love these theory videos! I literally did 7 different Sociology Theory papers in graduate school all about pokemon. Keep up the great work!
Awesome video Lockstin! I had always wondered about that myself as a kid, but didn't put too much thought into it until I got older. Makes you wondering if Kanto and Johto are going to team up and take over other places.
+Lockstin & Gnoggin I love the documentary style approach you guys did for this video! That was awesome!
This was an amazing video, some of the best you've have done :) Not just the theory, which is darn good, but the whole interview tone which for a second makes you forget about your issues, and inmerse in the pokemon world.
I really loved the style of this. It was so immersive and well done. Keep up the good work!
Woo time three crazy theories in one day
andy johns
Which are the other two?
Nuno Osório I think the two Film and Game theories that just came out
JT Nixon TY
Along with a bird keeper Toby theory
Probably one of my favorite theories in gaming. I like your take on it.
You guys really stepped it up with these last videos! Amazing content!
Who's Asking? Not to be a downer, but that’s probably never going to happen.
So, just like the movie Independence Day?
I read that in the voice of a 30s radio anouncer...
I would like to choose a faction
Maybe in Pokemon sun and moon you and your mum move away from Kanto because of the war. The dad is probably still fighting in Kanto and that’s why he sends you letters instead of just going to Alola. One problem with this theory is the events of alola are later on and red and blue are grown up.
Jacob Delablock could be another war
That could explain why so many old characters are in alola
Yeah, but then almost everyone would be in grief, not having fun catching Pokemon and shopping
Dude, this is an amazing new format. PLEASE tell me you're planning on doing more of these
It’s like a freaking documentary from the History Channel, I love it!
Thanks for another year of great videos!
I'm strip-mining these theory-heavy videos for ideas in a Pokemon-themed Dnd campaign. This is going to make for such a great plotline! Thank you.
It then disappeared into the deep end of the waterfall basin, longing for the invisible trust between people and Pokémon to manifest once more."
What if this event triggered the war.
I'm barely a minute in and it's already one of my favorite videos of the year. XD
Great video Lockstin and Gnoggin (and Bird Keeper Toby)!
How does this not have more views??? My mind is racing like crazy with how much sense this makes!
I really like the style of these videos! It really draws me in and makes it feel more real, like a History Channel documentary. Keep up the great work!
Great video man, can’t wait to see more in 2018
ahh I didn't see this! this was awesome hahahaha! You guys played it out so damn well! love when you guys do videos together! Hope this continues!
Oh, wow, old school theory. As in I think this is the first pokemon theory I ever saw on the internet back in the early 00s.
Really nice presentation you went with here.
Love the format you placed this video in. Keep it up I love the creativity.
I doubt there was a war between the two regions, but the creators grew up during the Cold War, which technically included conflicts in Korea & Vietnam.
I was ultimately hoping to see some sort of wartime adventures that parallels real world history & such…
My favorite gen 1 pokemon is Sandile
That's Gen V, dude...
BurningBlade474 just a joke, im not retarded, sandile is obvously gen 3
E- tan oh I’m really sorry it’s obviously from gen 7
My favorite gen 1 pokemon is Rayquaza, with Serperior as the other gen 1 pokemon second.
You guys are so dumb, Greninja is clearly the best gen 1 pokemon.
Suddenly it all makes sense.
That's an amazing piece of art @8:27.
You know there is always the chance that Lt. Surge isn't native to Kanto, but is instead from somewhere else, say Unova region.
i want the next games to be in old generations with a different story one could be a war based story in johto
I love these high quality videos!
Damn, that presentation was astoundingly good!
I'm excited for future videos and the designing behind them!
That was a beautiful spoof of documentaries on History Channel and informational about a theory at the same time. Well done.
I really liked the way this video was presented. Excellent job!
This was an interesting style of video. I liked it a lot.
I assumed the war was so bad that the people in charge were like, "Screw this, let's have some animal fighting tournament instead." so a MAD situation doesn't occur.
I pray this channel never dies. Its the best and most underrated!!
Amazing production Lockstin! Hope to see more fantastic collabes like this in 2018!
Love the documentary style here :D
It's always a pleasure to watch your videos!
Grettings from Costa Rica
"now im not a big pokemon conspiracy guy but.."
HE WAS REPLACED
Really like the aesthetic for this video really well done thank you for putting out such good work.
Super video and I am glad you got the Toby involved you collaborate very well
"Some of the most powerful Pokemon in the region"
> delphox
I love this style so much. Great job you two.
Amazing presentation ! The documentary format was done masterfully !
I love your pokemon theories so much. Keep up the good work and have an amazing 2018! greetings from Mexico :D
Bird keeper Toby +Gnoggin = amazing
And the secret weapon to stop the war was......
MAGIKARP!!!
Yeah Magikarp breed like hell according to the salesman, why not get a bunch and train them into Gyarados a very powerful Pokemon and destroy everything
@@matheussandbakk9959 Because electric types.
Big Daddy Boom Boom Earthquake along with quick claw could fix it’s weakness against a lot of Electric types
@@matheussandbakk9959 Magnemite, Magneton, and Magnezone: "Allow us to introduce ourselves"
And quick claw doesn't always work.
Big Daddy Boom Boom Ok you got me there, still an army of Gyarados would still be effective. Also can’t Gyarados learn Flamethrower?
The Kanto wars would make an amazing game. I love this video
Yo, lockstin this was a great video! Honestly this is one of your best works
I could watch this style all day!!
But isn't it weird how Lance used his Pokemon to attack someone, and he's a middle aged man.
Sub A Middle aged is definitely exaggerated
This is a really cool way of presenting a theory. I like it guys!
