The way Eri is handled is just… depressing. Her only relevance in the third act is her quirk being a plot device that undos consequences instead of being a character, helping the heroes reach their goals. And what was her experience with Overhaul? Being abused, tortured, and mutilated for her quirk. Just because it’s her “choice” now doesn’t make it any less depressing.

I personally didn't want Eri to be involved at all. Too many people expecting her to do some weird as hell super power glowup in Izuku's story...Izuku's and Bakugo's. in a full out death battle. not hers. Like it's weird. It's like reading a spiderman comic and expecting bugs bunny to be the main character and assault people with a rifle.
Tell me why does she have to be relevant? she's a child for hell's sake. the light novel is more realistic on what they do with an orphaned child. They raise her all together, taking turns. She even wore Midnight's old childhood kimono. She copies people's mannerisms when she's curious. (these all happen in the light novel).
Yes, her story was depressing and she was saved. saved by Izuku, mirio, sir, etc. she's repaying the favor because she wants do something-anything at all. Though i don't quite agree she should have done it just because way too many people want her to be some weird over glorified Madoka Magica level goddess.
Just because something is depressing doesn't mean someone needs to remain in that state forever. especially a child. they bounce back rather quickly compared to adults normally-though not always. Eri is an example of choice. You can have a terrible upbringing and a horribly traumatic past and choose not to hurt other people. Eri is Shiggy's foil in that regard. Shiggy chose to be a terrible human being after his trauma. Eri chose to be kind and hers is technically worse-she was literally killed and revived by Overhaul constantly. Shiggy got slapped and had a murder fest over it.

I just think ending an arc for a character who was tortured and mutilated because of her quirk to the point she doesn’t want it anymore with her mutilating herself and getting rid of her quirk is a bad writing decision.

Look, I won't deny, AFO giving Decay was very well foreshadowed, with Tenko being stated to be very late to not have a Quirk, and it conveniently being one that destroys his family. However, there was no need to tie his birth and trauma to AFO, that just shifts the blame from society to AFO. Also, he planned Shigaraki's entire life from the start but for other potential vessels he just picked them from the streets, like Number 6 and Dabi?

My problem with the AFO reveal is that it doesn't completely destroy Shigaraki as a character or the themes of the story. The themes of societal decay and over reliance on heroes is still there. The themes of the old gen passing the torch to the new gen is still there.
The problem is that it severely damages and worsens all these themes whilst adding very little to justify them. Sure society is breaking, but Shiggy's tragedy is due to AFO. Sure, AFO is the bad guy so he's supposed to fail to learn to pass the torch, but he's just not a good enough character and far too dumb to have him be the final villain for everyone to defeat, and he's smothering an actually amazing villain.
But because there's still pieces of the story remaining, the fandom can cling to those and shit on anyone criticising this.

So many problems with the most recent chapters, and by extension MHA at this point. Where do I even begin?
    1. AFO controlling Shiggy' life from birth AND GIVING HIM DECAY is so fucking stupid. Retroactively ruins Shiggy's progression, his development in MVA and basically tells Kotaro to fuck and creampie his wife, making his birth entirely dictated by AFO and pretty much was the root cause of the entire Shimura situation. Also completely ruins Deku and Shiggy's parallels because of this and makes it another scenario where AFO is the root cause of Shiggy's decsent into a villain.
    2. Decay is apparently an offshoot of Overhaul, making AFO evem more of a dumbass for not taking Overhaul's quirk back in Villain Hunt. That quirk would've greatly benefitted him if he acted upon it and took his quirk (better health, more opportunities to store more quirks, a better hold on Shiggy's will, etc) but instead he chose to not take his quirk at all when they’re right next to each other. Very stupid.
    3. Deku losing his arms (although something foreshadowed since Act 1) is still stupid. For over 300 chapters, Deku losing his arms was something that held a greater purpose just for it to not matter at all in Act 3. Hori didn't care about this potential threat for over 100 chapters until it suddenly gets brought back up again here, where he then fumbles the bag by having Deku lose his arms in the vestige realm, even though Deku stated that he needed to visualize his arms being there and not letting go of him, which just makes it feel so haphazard. And not even ONE chapter later, he gets his arms back almost as fast as he lost them.
    4. Aizawa/Kurogiri's plotline that was in the making for so many chapters and even had a major moment back in chapter 373 and 380 get fucking resolved in a matter of pages (and from a flashback no less), making the whole plotline feel undercooked.
    5. Eri breaking her horn and giving it to Aizawa is very stupid. Not only is it a worse version of Aizawa slicing his legs (yet another moment from PLW done worse), it logistically makes no sense at all. Quirks are very much tied to a person's identity, and Eri suffered abuse because of her quirk. The cruz of her arc was that her quirk isn't the cause of these issues and that she CAN be used to save others depending on the application of it, making this feel very contrived as all hell.
    6. The various students coming out to support Deku in an Endgame-like state (thematically does make sense) but is executed horribly since the vast majority shouldn't even be here in the first place and also lack any sort of dynamic with Deku at all.
TL;DR: Just feels like yet another bullshit chapter where character conflicts get resolved in a matter of pages and dumb plot contrivances are prevalent once again, like how the hell can Eri just cut her horn off her head, but then again, it’s all about the “themes”. And hey, Sero attacking AFO was "cool" wasn't it.

1........this has been theorized by the Japanese fandom for years. It's been hinted at often enough in the manga that I don't understand why you think it is stupid. I don't understand what you mean by it ruins Izuku's parallels. Izuku parallels a lot of people. A lot of characters are his foils. You will have to specify what you think it ruins because as far as the Japanese are concerned...it was so damn obvious, only an anvil dropped on your head could be more direct.
2............decay being an offshoot of someones' quirk was hinted at for a long while now-years even. again super obvious in Japanese. first off what the hell do you mean better health? for whom? AFO didn't want shiggy in better health. It would not have given a better hold on shiggy's will. In fact last I checked AFO didn't want Shiggy to have a will of his own to begin with-he was just developing him to be angry boy-which he got perfectly fine. As for more opportunities? Did you forget that AFO has mentioned more than once that he has to periodically get rid of quirks to get rid of the emotions/vestiges that overwhelm him with humanity? are you even reading? That's not a lost in translation issue like the majority of your whining. what good would storing overhaul do for him when he has to get rid of it eventually especially if the user has a particularly strong will?
      2. (your second number 2-might want to pay attention to that) Deku being unarmed for only 2 chapters could have lasted another chapter admittedly, but honestly you're talking like he has to stay 100 chapters armless. buddy that's too long. And I honestly would prefer that he doesn't become a living deku doll (ancient japanese wood doll whose modern equivalent is similar to the kokeshi dolls-which used to be often misread with a word for death). Japanese get way too into their puns. I didn't mind that he got them back qkuickly though-I mean a few minutes is a LONG time to be armless against AFO-no matter how skeletal he looks. You gotta remember the timing of how all these panels are occuring. You gotta read with logic and assumptions for the most part of how much time is passing.
      3. I only half agree with you here. Hori devoted at least two chapters to everyone else. so Aizawa and Mic getting only one chapter feels like it could have gone another chapter in a bit more detail, but I don't agree with the way you somehow expect eons of chapters to occur for side characters whose roles while important are NOT the main subject of the plot of a character they have to get to their side. Two chapters is fine. One chapter is fine too-it illustrated the point and what happened well enough to be understandable. I'm not sure how that gobsmacks you. It was not confusing.
4.Eri breaking her horn is not stupid plot wise, but it was stupid of a child to do. Aizawa's response illustrated that well enough in his tone...admittedly does not translate quite so well in English. Japanese the language of unwritten rules and meanings and cultural 'I say 'please stay', but i really mean 'get the f*** out' nonsense. Your whining about Aizawa's leg being sliced off...what the hell does that have to do with Eri's horn? Also he would have lost his quirk entirely in that moment if he hadn't chopped off his leg. your whining about the obvious is very aggravating. At least make a point that makes sense in context. His leg cut off was necessary in the heat of battle. Eri's horn break off wasn't necessary but understandable given the meaning of BNHA being about everyone coming together to work together/fight together that has been repeated....for hundreds of chapters now. or did the 'don't do it alone' Bakugo said to Izuku while he was impaled not get through your head? Or when the class says they will fight together?....or well pretty much every fight so far being a group of people/vestiges helping out one hero not clue you in to the theme?
      5. DEAR HEAVENS- have you missed the several reiterations of the theme the past couple hundred chapters? It's not even diffciult. It's not subtle. It's in your face. Bakugo says it several times. the class says it more than once. the adults say it. Heck....it's even a pun on the class. Class 1A,. Class 1 for All. Lack dynamic? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm so what are you whining about again? You went on a venting spree about one side character's side plot being too little but then say the actual class Izuku is heavily involved with is too much (in Japan they don't really switch classes-the class remains the same for all three years of high school typically as well as the homeroom teacher)? I'm genuinely astonished with the whinefest you have for this last point despite that you obviously lack the cultural knowledge of what this class dynamic actually means. The whole class is one in Japan (they're also twice the size). Even if you don't know what this scene actually means for the Japanese audience-people coming together for Izuku, etc, you are being straight up hypocritical here when you can't maintain the same stance for other characters.
Of course it's about the themes! what the hell do you think writing is? there's themes! and Hori has been writing to that them for hundreds of chapters. The 'together' part he's decided on since chapter 11 in particular with Bakugo and Izuku . Together, together, together together. my golly gee. certainly there are a hell ton of things so specific to Japanese cultural and unwritten values that you as a Westerner will never understand. I don't even understand half the nonsense when I read up on it. Some of it is straight up nuts. But it is in fact something Hori is making such beautiful commentary on. He has an opinion about certain aspects of Japanese society that need to be bettered and that is something both you and I just can't understand. Living the Japanese life is a very different thing than reading it. His story, in regards to Japanese culture, is surprisingly realistic and it's done amazingly in a way that makes the Japanese think.
I mean dude....the manga is so impactful that Bakugo's apology got put into the Japanese national mock exam. (fyi bakugo's apology has more connotations in his speech pattern and that particular bow in the original Japanese language than it does in English).
You want to make a point..I suggest you do more than just be shallow about it. So much of what makes BNHA a good plot is the things that simply don't have correlations here in the western countries.

While he made his own choices and like Tomura he is responsible for his own missdeads it hard to say what he would be if All for one never found him. In the end Tomura became a even worse monster because of All for one and Kotaro following the advice he got. People still cope and claim that he is a hate sink even though that was clearly never the intention. Hell he was removed from the hate sink wiki. People still cope and claim that Tomura is a better person despite being a serial killer who tried to destroy all if Japan somthing even All for one didn't want to do. The argument is that he cares for his comrades witch considering he tried to destroy Japan is probably bs now while Kotaro was controlling towards his family he never even came close to any of Tomuras depravity. If anyone genuenly belive that Tomura is morally better than Kotaro then you are genuenly a disturbed person without a lick of sense in your brain. Also probably the reason the fandom gets a bad name.
