    I very recently accepted a contract for a studio in Birks Grange; this video was a exactly what I needed, thank you so much! I wanted to ask what you know about the studio room experience, as opposed to the shared kitchen experience? (I’m worried about missing out on the social aspects of the shared kitchen)

      honestly i can’t give you an amazing answer bc i don’t know much about studios, however, while a lot of socialising does happen in flats, most of it happens in lectures/seminars/socials etc. regardless of where you’re living you’re going to be meeting lots of new people. plus you can always go to other flats for dinner or to hang out if you have friends there so i wouldn’t worry too much :)

    I was just allocated birks (catered) which was my 2nd preference, holland hall was my 1st. I'm a little disappointed by this and was just wondering if you could give any extra advice / information about birks and whether you know if it's better than holland? :)

    i’m moving into birks grange in a few weeks and i have a few questions i’d be so grateful if u could answer!! firstly are you really not allowed plug in fairy lights?? i don’t see why you wouldn’t be allowed them. And do they do inspections often? can they go in your room when you’re not there because that seems very extreme. thanks :)

      Hey :) So the rules on fairy lights aren't really followed up on. Technically you're not allowed them as they're a fire risk but imo that advice is a bit outdated as most fairy lights will be 100% safe to use and won't overload the socket. I had a bit of a weird experience with inspections. If I remember right, we only had one while I was there (but we were only there for 5 months). I had a woman come in asking me if my lights plugged in. I said yes and she then told me to hide them! She also gave me some of my flatmates lights to hide for her as well! They never actually came back after that. I think they might have confiscated some airers but idk bc that didn't happen to my flat. They are allowed to come in while you're not there but they leave a note to tell you they've been. They're not allowed to go through draws or anything, they can just look at what's on your desk and no more than that. Before inspections, they send out an email about a month in advance telling you what date it will be, so there are no 'surprise inspections' or anything. I wouldn't be too worried about it! Hopefully that helps :)

    Great video! Do you have an opinion on Mardon Hall? I chose it because I liked the location of Holland Hall but didnt have the budget for it 😂

      @nerissaaa  4 роки тому +2

      Hiya :) So that’s pretty smart as even though I don’t have much experience of Mardon Hall, people seem to love it! You get the perks of Holland Hall, you live near campus and you don’t have to go up cardiac hill. Plus because it’s a smaller accommodation you end up with a much closer community of people. (And it’s a really pretty place!) I’m sure you’ll love it. Hope you have a good time at Exeter :)

    Hey.
    Thank you so much this has been really helpful.
    I was hoping if you could tell me how much delay is ok when booking accommodation?
    I was waiting for my new offer letter and by then most of the cheap accommodations got booked and sold out and only the really expensive ones are left. I was thinking to try booking around July as sometimes people choose to defer or change plans. But I’m afraid I’ll be left with no place and even the cheapest option at the moment will be gone. What’s your advice ?

    • @nerissaaa
      @nerissaaa  3 роки тому +1

      Heya ! So as far as I know accommodation owned by Exeter isn’t allocated on a first come first serve basis which means you could apply as late as you needed to. It’s also done on a ranking basis which means you’re pretty much guaranteed a place somewhere. If you were looking at privately owned accommodation, you would definitely have to book ASAP. Hopefully this helps!

      @@nerissaaa the on campus accommodation for PG is super expensive. And private student halls, the cheaper ones are all booked. I was thinking maybe if I wait till July maybe something would open up. I am scared however if even the ones available go unavailable

      @@Selesady the important thing to remember is that there’ll always be somewhere to stay! i would definitely join some of the exeter fb groups (overheard at university of exeter is a good one) as a lot of the time people post about needing flat mates. Also check the student pad website. If you search for exeter student housing, loads of options come up, and a lot of them aren’t expensive.

    This was super helpful !! Is there any chance of getting placed in a flat with people from the same course as you? How long does it take approximately to reach main campus, if you're a slow walker? Do you end up walking to main campus everyday?

    • @nerissaaa
      @nerissaaa  4 роки тому +1

      Hiya -
      1) so i actually requested (on the questionnaire) to be in a flat with a girl from my course who i met on facebook and we were literally in the rooms next to each other! if you don’t request that then i think it’s all down to chance. having said that however, i think in my flat half of them were doing science / engineering courses so i think it depends on what answers you give in the questionnaire.
      2) if you’re a slow walker, it might take you around 20 - 25 mins to get to main campus. but you’ll probably get used to it and get faster as term goes on.
      3) i pretty much ended up going to main campus every weekday except wednesdays as i didn’t have class on wednesdays. sometimes i’d go up on weekends to go to the shop/library. i’d usually stay up once i’d walked up until my last class but it’s easy enough to pop back for lunch :))
