Thanks for the advice. I agree, the right shoes make a difference! My son is a big fan and likes to watch you throw and hear your tips. He won national championship in 8u at the Junior Olympics last year and looks up to you. Thanks for making this channel!
I coach my niece in high school and she got the 2016 shoes. Now, my son and daughter are throwing in them. I love that color scheme. The Olympic color schemes are always the best ones.
I'm a coach in oregon, and have a very big footed, (going toward 7ft tall) thrower who could use shoes of size 17. Like others, I need help in getting those. He may be someone who will matter in throwing some day! Thank you, we are really proud of you!!
Thanks for all your content...I'm 73 3/4, been throwing for 55 years...still coaching throws and competing ... of course, the kids I coach are big fans, and you inspire them with your quest for greatness...btw...I still have my old Nike 1984 shoes with the cross straps...AND the article about your dad and two brothers that was in SI... I break it out and re-read it every year or so...keep at it
@@D_Beckz It definitely wouldn't hurt, although I've seen kids glide with basketball shoes...My glide (and even rotational discus) shoe of choice in the Nike SD-4...I've worn them exclusively for the last 15 years, and all my throwers but one of two who prefer the Adidas Throwstar, wear them. They have a great textured sole that will give you traction, yet allow the foot to easily turn into the finish...and they're less expensive that the Adidas...glide throwers DEFINITELY don't need to messing with rotational shoes...especially the Saucony Unleash, which is 100% a rotational shoe ONLY
The first shoe I bought my kid were Asics.7th grade glider. Then Sauconys. They were fast but didn't last long. Had some VS shoes he never liked. Then Nike the last 3 years of High school. He's now a Freshman thrower at the U of South Dakota. They are an Adidas school. Just glad my shoe buying days are over.
Thanks for sharing such useful info! This video sure is really handy for novice throwers all over the world. I’d also love to see how fast and far you can sprint, jump, and throw something like a med ball, so we can get what the shotput world record holder is truly capable of...! I'd say that helps engage more people in the sport.
King of shotput is talking , its a real legend talking about shoes , and i am happy to seen this video and only say LONG LIVE THE KING, i want to meet you if it possible
I have been trying to find the throwing shoes that you had on that were purple. where can I get those I think they were Nike but they looked purple and neon greenish Nike swish really would like to get a pair of those and I’m a very big fan of yours i’m 62 years old now but I used to throw in high school really love the sport love the shoes also had great support for my feet, God bless you young man.
I just ordered ordered some sd 2s I’m currently a freshman I’ve been working on my form for 3 weeks now last year I didn’t throw really far but hopefully since I’m learning the rotation I can throw far I am 5’11 190lbs and threw 36 ft 8 inches with the 8lb ball my bench was around 155 squat maybe 200 now I’m benching 200 squat 300 and hopefully that’s enough to get a decent distance
Really cool video! Does Nike make specially wide shoes for you? Maybe you have narrower feet that fit the standard throwing shoe "off-the-shelf, unisex" sizing scheme, but I can't figure out why they make throwing shoes so stinking narrow when most of us are not! I have to cram my extra wide, high arched feet into any throwing shoe I have ever tried, and usually with the laces out (it's a good thing they have the straps on them). Love your videos! It would be interesting to take us on a walk through of your trophy/medal room. :)
I throw in the Nike gannis’s and they have very good grip but when I’m spinning so I will have to get some of those for my next middle school practice.
ive been using my bright orange nike sd shoes for over a year, was thinking about retiring them and using them just for practice and running a newer shoe just for meets
I'm a bit of a gear nerd and an engineer, so dig this stuff. Re: video topics, I would like to learn more about how you incorporate different weight shot in your training. I know you occasionally refer to throwing 15, 16 and 17 pound balls. Do you throw other weights? Are there surface finish specs and/or restrictions on the ball? Anyway, a deep dive into the ball itself would be fun. Btw, I'm not a thrower, but was a distance guy for Washington back in the day during the era of the Pac8/10 when your dad and uncles were throwing. Cheers.
Wish I could find size 15 Adizero shoes as they are my favorite, had one pair and can't find them ever again... I've had them repaired several times with Leatherwood but I really need a new pair now after 3 seasons. HELPP!
You mentioned your weight being around 320. I wonder if you pick up or lose weight according to the season and competition schedule? Like strongman athletes that try to gain a little extra weight/mass leading up to a big comp. is that something you do?
Thanks for sharing your insights! And Love the 84 shoes! I remember that big ol' rivet inside. Made 'em weigh a ton! Curious, do you keep all your old shoes, or donate them or what? Also, do you have any thoughts/guidance/advice on resole-ing shoes, for those of use who can't afford new shoes as often?
What do I do for my son when we cannot find shoes in his size? They don’t sell many in a 17 and these shoes are always out of stock. I’m at a loss, I’ve been trying for 2 years now.
What do I do when I can’t find throwing shoes for my son!!! Help!! He qualified for state as a sophomore and will qualify again but finding his size is terrible.
Hello my 14 year old son is starting track and we are having issues finding throwing shoes since he is a size 16. Do you have any suggestions? Yes 14 years old , 6’3” tall and size 16 shoes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Took many pics of u throwing in Waco! Any way I can obtain an autographed photo? Will gladly pay! I have 2 autographed pics now...Al Oerter and Sergey Bubka and would like to add yours in my man cave!
I throw better with regular shoes, I get more power in it. I just can't find that with throwing shoes rn. I'm in 8th grade, I throw 146 with regular shoes and 128 with throwing shoes. Idk why or how to get better with throwing shoes
Some of it might be that your positions may be a little off balance and the throwing shoes don’t let you correct for that as much, if you’re throwing on a fast ring you don’t want to feel like your slipping. Focus on technique and keep trying the throwing shoes, those are really solid distances for your age!
