One of the ultimate must-eat street foods in Karachi, Pakistani is the bun kebab. At first I had no idea what to expect, and even as I watched, I couldn’t hardly imagine what this creation would taste like.
In order to make a Karachi bun kebab, first he whipped up some egg white into a foamy batter. Then he takes a little lentil meat patty, sticks it into the foam, and onto the hot griddle in oil. That sizzles until he flip it and it turns into a little burger patty.
On another hot griddle, the buns are cooked in oil, and then lathered in chutney. The burger goes on, with onions, and it’s served with more chutney.
There you have the iconic and one of the King’s of all Pakistani street food - the Karachi bun kebab!

It brings back a touching memory when I was 7 years old in 1958, and our flight from Kuwait to Bombay, stopped overnight in Karachi. Having left my parents to go to boarding school, I wept unconsolably and wouldn’t eat anything. Our kind, fatherly waiter in the restaurant of our hotel carried me into his arms “Aaja bete, roh math,” he said consolingly, as he fed me my breakfast. (You’ve picked up some Urdu, I expect: “Come son, don’t cry”)
Your videos do more than present the food and the hospitality of an ancient, peaceful culture, they are positively therapeutic to this old man.

Pakistani version of fast food is just wow and so light.. Minced meat [probably], egg and lentils alongwith chutney. It would take Mcdonalds to stuff in a lot of calories, Big Mac and McMuffin together still they'd miss out on most key ingredients available in this bunkabab.

Roy, you are absolutely right. this patty is termed as 'Shami Kabab' made of minced beef, lentil (chikpea lentil), spices, chopped onions & garlic. Chutney is made of redpepper, salt, mint and corainder. Evert street vendor and this place avoid using processed food ingrediants and packaged food raw materials. Everything from minced beef to onion are purchased from local vendors (no brands). thats why we are all addicted to these street fast food, there are numerous brands and burger joint but there are numerous people who prefer street fast food over branded burger joints. Even McDonald, KFC and other foreign burger joints have customized their recipes as per local taste and they are a bit spicy as compared to middle eatern or western countries. Recently after 20+ years Mcdonald introduced Bun Kabab in their menu which got mixed response so far.

I am a British Pakistani and where my family is from in Pakistan there is some local street food place my uncle showed me last time I went and we had something called Samosa Chaat (most Pakistani or maybe even indian/Bengali people know what Samosa are or what Chaat is but this was a Samosa made in to a Chaat) as a guy who is not a big fan of Chaat I can say that was amazing the Samosa Chaat and a bottle of Shezan Mango Juice cost like around £0.50-£0.60 GBP or something like (my uncle paid for it and he told me the price) that which is less than $0.70 USD it was AMAZING
I can say that food in Pakistan is SUPER CHEAP unless you are getting western food in Pakistan as things such as Pizza or Fried Chicken where my family is from in Pakistan costs just as much as the average UK price but local foods are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper you could probably get a days worth of street/restaurant food for the price of a 10"-12" sized Pizza and if you just bought straight up ingredients or fruit/veg/meat and made your own food it would be even more cheap but when I was in Pakistan I ate out on an almost daily basis as the food is so cheap it just ain't worth making your own food unless you got no money (but as I grew up in the UK and am here now like 90% of my immediate extended family (siblings parents, unties, uncles cousins not family such as 2nd or 3rd cousins even though many of those are here too) is based in the UK or has lived here meaning we get a lot of money from working in the UK and if we do go Pakistan we get to chill out and even though we live there for a significant portion of time when we go we eat take out and chill like someone who is on a one week holiday yet we go for a longer period of time)

The Pakistan series has been one of the best of all your travels, Mark. Being an Indian, Pakistan is generally off limits for us but food has no boundaries and you have just proved that. I made many Pakistani friends while in Dubai and through them I was exposed to some of the gems of gourmet world..Chapli Kabab being just one of them. Slurpingly delicious country. I've been to Turkey, Greece, Egypt, and Italy.
Never had the pleasure of Pakistan but man do I truly miss the food from the middle east and Mediterranean!
I've never eaten so well as I did around the Mediterranean sea.

Karachi OMG the food, people, hospitality is unblieveable. Just noticed one thing food is much cheaper in KHI as compare to other regions and more delicious obviously..
He's only shown old city street foods, rest of the city food is more expensive and restaurants very modern

When it comes to the taste... Sure it does better than the bland Mcdonald's burger patty.
Actual taste is from that chatni (sauce).... I can eat that chatni alone with bread.
Whenever that chatni touches my tongue.. It sends a vibrating tantrums from my head to toe!!!
