I'm very curious to hear what you think of this series, it's one of my seemingly controversial takes..., but apparently I'm not alone * Petrik www.goodreads.com/review/show/1829419001?book_show_action=true&from_review_page=1 *
I've considered giving the follow-up series a try as I've heard the series improves, but I was just so underwhelmed with Farseer Trilogy on first pass. Way too many characters making unrealistic decision for the sole purpose of moving the plot along...all the time.

It’s true- Hobb’s characters are among the very best and the most “real” I’ve encountered, and I formed strong attachments to them. Coming of age - you’ve got it! Elaborate fantasy setting- check! Compelling characters you’ll cry with - you bet! Happy reading, my friend!

I usually don't read two books in the same series back to back, to not burn out, but yesterday I read the last 150 pages of assissins apprentice in Basically one sitting, and just started royal assassin today, and I'm already fully invested in the world, I don't even care what Fitz does, I just love reading whatever he's doing

Regarding Farseer not being dense like Malazan, it's not such a complicated story but it's definitely dense. The main aspect of Hobb's work is the emotional turmoil of characters and their complicated relationships with each other. There is weight in each sentence and character interaction. Savouring that is the best part of this series.

    • @ducky36F

Yeah I found Royal Assassin to be one of the densest reads I’ve ever had with all the emotional turmoil picked into it

In my opinion, the best fantasy writer today. I started reading her 25 years ago, and I still find her to be the best in writing, characters and world building. Fitz is one of the best characters, and her "bad" guys are those that I still hate the most. And, of course, she has the BEST wolf character ever. Hands down.

I never made it all the way through The Rain Wilds or The Fitz and the Fool books, despite being really interested in the settings and lore. Perhaps Hobb matured as a writer in ways that simply stopped appealing to me.

Love Farseer. You can do Farseer along with Malazan I promise youll be more than ok. I got my Wife to read it as her first ever epic fantasy series and she loved them and got through them no problem... even with it being her first. Im a character reader as well. Prince Regal ends up alongside Joffrey, and Deloris Umbridge as the most hated characters Ive ever read...

The Liveships is actually the series I like the least. The series where Fitz and the Fool are the main characters are my favourites, and I don't think the Rainwilds are bad at all. I found it interesting and there are a few characters there that I really like. To me, like you, I find the characters to be the most important. If the characters are bland or unlikeable I drop the books pretty fast, even if the story and world is epic. (sorry for bad writing, english is not my first language)

I believe Fitz means "son of". It'll make more sense later. Liveship Traders was my favorite.

I read the first trilogy and probably some ways into the second while I was still in my late teens. I can confirm, I felt the joys and the misery. I did laugh and cry with the characters.
It's funny sometimes when you describe something and it sounds a bit lame when explained because you actually had to be there to experience it. I think R. Hobb does a great job in exactly that.
Have fun reading it, I'll be watching your videos with interest.

Got probably halfway through the entire series and ran out of steam waiting for the next book. Now that its finished I probably need to reread and finish, except I'm already in the Malazan reread. 2023 I guess.

The start and end of Assassins Quest were great, but man I found the middle dragged something rotten. Still an all round amazing trilogy though.
As for a name to call us. How about the Hobbnobs? (A take on the British biscuit for the Americans out there)
