You're correct, the story dragged on, and I ended up fast-forwarding through some parts. The actresses, especially Aditi Rao Hydari, delivered outstanding performances.
I don't think Tawwaifs were glorified at all. It presented the reality of courtesans in that period. Nobody said Malikajaan was correct; the show constantly showed how egotistic and selfish she was. I mean, she kills her own sister, sells other girls, controls her daughter, and so much more. Even Fareedan used Alamzeb as a pawn in her plan, betrayed her country and told the British to raid Tajdar's house. If you think the series showed tawwaifs in a positive light, then you completely missed the point of it.

This is true..Glorification of exploitation of women in worst way should not be shown.Rather work should be done to show some positive solutions to this age old practice of exploitation.
You spoiled my mood in the end by disrespecting prostitution, you’re giving review when you haven’t understood series itself, it’s not about to glorying prostitution but it was about to tell the audience that we should respect prostitute because we can’t imagine what they go through in their life. What hell is “ galat hai ” they don’t have option to survive, do many of them has been sold for money, got have kidnapped, under the burden of responsibilities to feed their families , who will take care of their lives ?you? No right? Then who are you say prostitution galat hai ?
what do you expect from an animal movie lover he gave such justification of that chapri movie but when it comes to nice content and women's struggle movies he is always negative bcs he is male chauvinist what can you expect from him sanjay leela bansali is such brilliant director and a small youtuber like him giving nonsense reviews about his movie just think about it
It's a fictionalized representation of that particular part of Indian history. Enjoy it as a show. Don't lecture on how historically inaccurate this show is. We all know it's not 100% accurate. I loved it and I give it 9/10.
First of all, there is a big difference between prostitution and the tawaif (courtesan) culture. So, NO. This was NOT a show glorifying prostitutes. Read some history and do some basic research before mixing the two. I have shot a documentary in the red-light area and I come from the land of Nawabs as well, so I can straightaway disregard your argument of Heeramandi glorifying prostitutes. India always had the courtesan culture, it's the British who misused and exploited them as prostitutes and corrupted the culture with this poison that women are still suffering from. The story of Heeramandi is simple - how courtesans in Lahore lived during the turbulent times of India's independence struggle. So that's why it was important to show the freedom movement in the background, I thought it was common sense to figure out. There are loopholes in the show, I agree, but definitely not the ones you have mentioned. I didn't find a single episode boring or dragged and it hooked me right from the beginning till the end.
Bro do you think usse pata nhi hoga but Shan ne multiple videos ki deal ki hogi. Ab pending promotion karke baat khatam karna chata hoga nhi company shan or case daal degi. So ..... understand it.
SLB has always shown interest in including atleast one character of prostitute in his movies. Now making an entire show on prostitution is another whole level!! I'm dumbstruck.
I would like to say that the idea of a 'tawaif' and that of a 'prostitute' are not the same. The point that you are making very much comes out of the Victorian values that was kind of imposed on India during the British colonization. And in the premodern period, these 'kotha's had patronisation from the Nawabs, which when later stopped, led to the brothelisation of these magnificent cultural arenas of India. The position of the tawaifs in the premodern period was much more dignified and principalised than that where they finally were forced to descend after the advent of British process of the 'civilising mission'.
I do agree with you the visuals aesthetics and sinha’s acting in this was a treat to watch the costumes are just *chef’s kisses* after few episodes it does get boring and predictable although i liked how each character has their own dark sides, stories and depth like sanjeeda sheikh and richa chadda’s character, i was expecting more of them more then the story the characters got me hooked
Boring, time waste, Bad story....Only Manisha mam's acting and visuals grate in the series. Kyu nhi hogi Netflix ko 200 Cr ka chuna jo laga diya SLB ne😂😂 Par phir bhi isko ya series itna acha lag gaya...pata nhi kaise!! Isse pata chalta hai bade ditector & actor jo abhi market mein popular hai ya baas unsab ko hi support karta hai.
1:26 Not just that. But thousands of innocent hindu women from other parts of India were kidnapped and sold here against their will as well. Harsh punishment if they disobeyed. A lot of people overlook this fact in an attempt to glamorise it.
The show is world class and acting by everyone is superb except the actress who played Alam. Sets are beautiful, dance is beautiful and Manisha koirala surprises. I feel Madhuri also would have been excellent choice for the same role.
I watched lots of well known reviewer reviews on it , most of are saying Hirmandi is shit...but man I watched all episodes and what a series just sent you in different era..it's a masterpiece...every scene , every frame, love story, songs...just wow ....thumbs up for your geniune review..
If the name Sanjay Leela Bhansali attached with any project That project will be worth watching for sure Then stories and all doesn’t matter SLB this name is enough 💯🔥
I just finished the series. Overall it’s a triumph, what a visual and artistic delight! But some of the characters were poorly written. Waheeda’s character was half baked. Wali’s character was one dimensional and Fareedan’s sudden change of heart was bad writing. Bibbojaan and Alamzeb are the standout characters in the show, but Sharmin’s performance was underwhelming. Overall I enjoyed it!
Why no metion about the expressionless performance of Sharmin Segal? After the unclear plot, it was her performance that let the show down. Ek hi to love story thi, usme bhi aap emote na karein to kya faayda. She had a wide range of emotions to cover from innocence to love to betrayal to revenge. She delivered nothing.
Yeahhhh…..u removed that last pant wala line now…..Maine ek baar msg kiya tha…….u actually paid attention to the feedback…means a lot 👌……..love ur content…..keep up the good work…..sending u positive vibes😊😊😊😊
Not that i am against your opinion or something like that...but aap ko uss line se kya dikkat thi?? Personally mujhe to hasi aati thi aur main wait kartaa tha last line ke liye😅😅
I usually agree with you, but not with this one. Story kaafi entertaining and gripping thi, and i absolutely loved the love story, it shattered me💔Ha wo revolution wala jo transition tha wo better ho skta tha i agree, that was haphazard and out of nowhere, wo jo azaadi ki aag jo man me jali un aurto ki wo transition sahi se nhi dikha paaye but otherwise, loved the rest❤ bauhot heart touching and gripping series tha, and acting was brilliant the entire cast❤
Jab Animal ki baat thi tab big budget, star, story, concept everything were good in name of cinema and art but when it comes to prostituttion you have concern about what should be shown on big screen.
Exactly, toh phir Gangubaai jaisi movies bhi toh glorifying prostitution bolenge, lekin nhi problem toh inhe islaam se hai woh directly bol nhi sakte isilye kuch bhi bolte hai.
I do agree, the thrills all happen in the first 3-4 episodes. But the last part really makes you emotional. And i know there were a lot of loopholes in climax. For example i dont think those women could overpower the British police. But thik hai, itna compromise to kar hi sakta hai hum, or at least main.
You didn't seem to touch important subject - Alamzeb bakwaas acting, uska lover is equally bad actor. Richa a good actor, her role was so small whereas bad actors like Sonakshi and Alamzeb (nepotistic folks) were given central characters. Puke
People have developed a habit of watching explicit content in recent years, especially in web series. If you can't appreciate clean acting, story, and aesthetics, you're missing out. In this series, there's an attempt to present ghazals, thumris, and music in their purest form. Just think, a director who typically caters to mainstream Bollywood music is now trying to stay true to the original. There's no overpowering background music or forced hooks, so if it's not excessively dramatic, it's labeled as boring. They're putting as much effort into one episode as they would into an 8-episode web series these days. Such dedication to mindset, dialogues, music, and costumes requires understanding. Reviewing Heeramandi isn't something you're equipped for. If everything was about numbers, you know Bhansali could do it effortlessly with just a snap of his fingers. His keen eye and experience are evident; it's heavy drama that you couldn't digest.
Pehli bar i totally disagree with you, the series was just amazinggggg and I LOVEDDDDDD watching every minute, every second of it. Go and watch this masterpiece right now!!!!
Ok the first 2 episodes...ok...promising lag rhe the. Uske baad it was just a cluster fuck of shit happening with no real consequences. Like it just did not have anything compelling happening in it. A boring, slow paced, painfully dragged out show. Now coming to possibly one of the worst aspects of the show - Alamzeb. She single-handedly made the already sluggish show ten times worse. Manisha koirala's acting, then on the flip side you have the girl who plays Alamzeb's acting. Day and night. Expressionless, passionless, talentless. It boggles my mind trying to figure out why she was cast in the first place.

This is true..Glorification of exploitation of women in worst way should not be shown.Rather work should be done to show some positive solutions to this age old practice of exploitation.

clearly a paid review

Astrotalks Supermacy 😂😂

It is very good especially the love story of Taajdaar and Alamzeb , Taha nailed the character of Taaj.
Dude that's the worst part of the show 😑😑
SLB has always shown interest in including atleast one character of prostitute in his movies. Now making an entire show on prostitution is another whole level!! I'm dumbstruck.
Small correction ab Hiramandi Lahore pakistan say bhi khatam ker diya gaya he. I am a regular viewer and love your show .
Respect form Lahore❤
I would like to say that the idea of a 'tawaif' and that of a 'prostitute' are not the same. The point that you are making very much comes out of the Victorian values that was kind of imposed on India during the British colonization. And in the premodern period, these 'kotha's had patronisation from the Nawabs, which when later stopped, led to the brothelisation of these magnificent cultural arenas of India. The position of the tawaifs in the premodern period was much more dignified and principalised than that where they finally were forced to descend after the advent of British process of the 'civilising mission'.
Perfectly said 👍🏻
I do agree with you the visuals aesthetics and sinha’s acting in this was a treat to watch the costumes are just *chef’s kisses* after few episodes it does get boring and predictable although i liked how each character has their own dark sides, stories and depth like sanjeeda sheikh and richa chadda’s character, i was expecting more of them more then the story the characters got me hooked
Boring, time waste, Bad story....Only Manisha mam's acting and visuals grate in the series. Kyu nhi hogi Netflix ko 200 Cr ka chuna jo laga diya SLB ne😂😂
Par phir bhi isko ya series itna acha lag gaya...pata nhi kaise!!
Manisha's acting on fire. 🔥
It is not glorification of Prostitution....just a content...
If the name Sanjay Leela Bhansali attached with any project
That project will be worth watching for sure
Then stories and all doesn’t matter
SLB this name is enough 💯🔥

Lagta hai isko samsosa milgaya hai....isi liye bahut tarife kar raha hain! 🤣🤣
Promoting bakwas..... Serials is waste..
This guy dont have enough knowledge and wanna review lol😂
It is NOT Mughal era. It’s British era !!!
Lekin ye sab classical dancer sex slavery mughal time bejhi gayi thi sab
Why no metion about the expressionless performance of Sharmin Segal? After the unclear plot, it was her performance that let the show down. Ek hi to love story thi, usme bhi aap emote na karein to kya faayda. She had a wide range of emotions to cover from innocence to love to betrayal to revenge. She delivered nothing.
Soo true!!
Sach mein yrrr heeramandi ki sabse galat cast mein Alamzeb ka character hua h so disappointed
Trueeeeee
Deliver kiya na. Same thopda for all the range of expression. Shayad botox filler zyada laga liye. Kartina kaif acting kar leti hai.

Bhai most boring series i have ever watched and alamzeb ne toh barbaad kar diya with her acting 🤮

No laptop = banger series
I really enjoyed this show. Manisha, aditi & sanjida was exceptional but alamzeb was terrible
The series is absolutely amazing and beautiful.., alamzeb acting is the only factor that’s bad

It’s boring web series. Couldn’t watch all episodes. Yawning 🥱
I agree. The story isn't so strong or gripping. I was also upset that someone as superbly talented as Richa Chadha had such a small role.
