My dad grew up in Highland Park Michigan, he owned that same type of green Gran Torino, and he was EXACTLY like the character in this movie. What's even weirder, is that I wanted to take him to see the movie when it came out, but I procrastinated just 2 weeks too long, because my father passed away shortly after the movies release. This movie was eerily similar to his life story.

Clint Eastwood is simply the best there is. He takes a script from an unknown writer, that has no Hollywood agent, and turns it into a wonderful film. I work in the film industry as an actor/ screenwriter, and believe me this is very rare. Hollywood could take a lesson.

I fucking love this movie, I watched it when I was in my teens and didn't really understand it to well but as an adult this movie has so many life lessons I wish I knew. Whenever I have a bad day or feel like complete shit I watch this movie and it brings me back on track. Thank you Clint, thank you Hmong and I love however reads this.

While I lived in my first home I was privileged to get to know the Hmong family across the street from me. The father came over one night and in broken english asked me for help with his water softener in his home. I went over and got him squared away. Later that night his two young daughters came over and offered gifts to my young sons - interestingly it was a bag of plastic american military soldiers. I was blown away by their simple and kind gesture. I thought about that a lot over the next week. Some time later they invited me over for their oldest daughters high school graduation party. They had made traditional Hmong food and graciously welcomed me. I got to speaking with their oldest teen aged son whom spoke perfect english. He told me all about their past and how they came to america for a better life. That family was the kindest, most sincere, hardest working family on the block. We formed a wonderful friendship that lasted many years until I moved away to a new city. I never forgot them and was really lonely for their friendship for a couple years. That sadness slowly went away with time. Then this movie came out. I was blown away about all the similarities. It brought back a lot of smiles to my face. I love this film. Have watched it at least a dozen times and it's still just as good as the first. One day I wall go back to the old neighborhood and see if these kind people are still around. Maybe sooner than later...

Saw it in the theater with my wife at the time and my mom. Mom wasn’t the Clint Eastwood movie type but she went with us. Never forget when our hero gets it I happened to look over and my mom was crying. She passed in 2009.

Another good Eastwood movie. Director, composer, actor. Who else directs in their 80s and 90s? He enjoys good health. Worked at it. Remarkable story teller.

What a wonderful and snazzy cast! Everyone participating in the magic of film!So much heart. A story so easy to relate to...and the goodness and humlbeness of the Mung people.
Love of vintage cars! The car is the symbol of Walt,as old as he is. In Walt's case it's his pride and joy! He made it himself he put a steering column in it.
As a kid, i liked porches, convertibles or punch buggies... a guy goes " When I go through mid-life crisis I'll probably buy a Viper lol we will see..."
    Another guy's love of cars:
"it's in your blood or its not.... butt its in your blood - the relationship is quite close" .
72 Grand Torino...had a friend who had a grand Torino...can leave the backyard, nest and go out with buddies and pick up girls on dates!! a car to express themselves the best and how they express themselves in the world...( of course its a brand new day with the women's movement and all , and women have their own identities now, to fix and build and drive their own sport and vintage cars! since the 80's!)
"when your young you like convertibles with alot of flash and when you're older you like cars with lot of iron around them,
" in CASE it piles it up..."\.
Walt shows Tao what he knows ..." what was your initiation supposed to be. My grand Torino ? Christ all Friday !" a sub set of society who really treasure their cars! oh yeah !!!!!
Walt and Tao bond. " He earned it" he says "your my friend you've come a long way..."
Cars are an extension of our personality, it's like clothing, it's what u put on after you get dressed it tells a lot about you.
I've never seen a smile on my dad's face as big as it was that day ! "its the time you spend time with your family and the people! who help you out along the WAY!"
Thank you, Clint Eastwood, and cats and crew! such an important film!xo.

The kid priest needed a punch in the face straight away. The actor who played Tao whinned years later about how explotitive this movie was. Typical one hit wonder that didn't have enough talent to move on. The movie was built around Iistereotypes. like life, it's a grind.
