They were great folks and she especially was a pistol. My girlfriend and I shared wonderful dinners with them where Witt would share stories of building and racing and winning and losing. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times".
@myotherusername9224 Folks in the community believe a local pilot giving flight lessons landed with a blue damaged landgear cover..the plane was bright yellow.. but had a green mark where the cover was ripped..was what took Steve down..not a mistake building the plane.
And just a few weeks after this video was taken he and the Mrs. would pack it in near Stevenson, AL in the The Wittman "O&O" N41SW. They were on a trip to Oshkosh.
Any luck on editing that other footage? I know it's a lot of work but I just love these. So much is lost due to "modern is best mentality". I would love to see more of SW out there!
I was good friends with Paula before she married steve. I miss the good times we had together... she was amazing, exciting, adventurous ; ) & generous with her affections. Think I'll look her up for a trip down memory lane. Cheers -
@hadleymanmusic "Welded fuselages, everything else is easy." I don't understand. Welded fuselage (if you know how to weld) isn't much harder than wood, sheet metal or composite, if you know how to build them too.
If you can't get to editing it, please, at least duplicate it and send the dupes to EAA library. So often what with one thing and another beyond anyone's control , projects don't complete and the documentation is lost. This is a hugely valuable resource not just for aviation but for gerontology.

My Grandfather raced against Steve in ‘36 , in St. Louis, 37and ‘38 in Cleveland. flying the Linberg special .

Yes, she was. It look she was 20yr+ younger, than Steve.
Paula Muir was more like 40 years younger than Steve. He was about 91 when they died she was about 50.
She looks around 60, so was cca 30 years younger.
