Mark, You're my model... I love your way of life and your humanity. Your kind feelings for others' success reveal your heart... Thanks for being my favorite teacher ❤
WOW! I am truly grateful for your support and for considering me your favorite teacher. It's amazing to know that I can have a positive impact on someone's life. Thank you! I am looking forward to seeing you grow, and if you are interested in taking some challenges like Selva for future videos, email me at mdiaz@2danimation101.com
Thank you for watching the video! I appreciate your interest and curiosity about the opinions of the last two animators. I'll definitely consider making a follow-up video to discuss their thoughts and the differences in animation styles. Stay tuned! (In a nutshell: They thought the animation was good, but the problem was that the STANDARD I set - Dungeons and Kittens - was too high)
Keep in mind you can't actually copyright an art style. Only works of art are protected by copyright. It is not uncommon for professional artists to be commissioned to produce works 'in the style of' specific artists... not to mention the hundreds of artists that have to learn 'Disney' style when working on a Disney 2D animated project, or the thousands of artists working in the Anime/Manga style, or the literally millions of artists that use photographic references to base character poses and other elements of their artworks on (sometimes flying dangerously close to actually breaching copyright laws). All that to say... I do agree AI's shouldn't be trained on copyrighted art without the artist's permission (and they should receive some kind of royalty or license payment ideally if they agree). I disagree that the images AI's produce are breaching anyone's copyright unless the image being generated could easily be mistaken for an existing copyrighted work - which is not the same as being in the style of a specific artist. I did enjoy this video I just think the moral standing of some artists on AI art is short sighted. I see it as an opportunity to earn more as an artist, not less. Anyway... the only additional thing I'd like to see you challenge yourself on in these 'no drawing skills required' animations is adding Cartoon Animator's morph based heads into the mix. They're an easy way for non artists to get their characters talking with face animation. Most people usually want their characters to talk to each other.
DAVID! Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply. And yes, morph based heads could be cool content for new challenges. In any case, I am working on another UA-cam video about the "Ethics of AI" and would love it if I could interview you so you can share some of your thoughts about this, because I really like your point of view. In the video I could mention your page and blog. If you are up for it, you can reach me on facebook, or send me an email to mdiaz@2danimation101.com
@@2DAnimation101 I'm flattered that you would want to interview me but I don't really want to be a part of a discussion that is toxic on both sides. Particularly on UA-cam. I'm keeping an eye on the space, dabble a bit with AI art myself, and write about it in both my blogs on occasion. Feel free to use my blog's for research, I just wouldn't call myself an authority on AI art. At the end of the day I prefer drawing on real paper with an actual pen - because digital art isn't real art (it is but I remember when people thought that about digital art because they had an 'undo button''). Really I just prefer it because it gets me away from a screen.
I was intrigued with this challenge but not for the question you were asking. For over ten years I have been looking at different animation software programs that make animation projects easy. My goal is to use local relatively unknown iconic leader stories to motivate at-risk youth to learn, but more specifically to want to learn to read at grade level. These stories explain how these leaders overcame the adversity of their era when it seemed impossible for them to achieve. Your challenge illustrated how someone who cannot draw and paint can make an animation that approaches professional quality. I can use your challenge project to answer the ubiquitous rejection I get from teachers who tell me " I'm not technical, I can't draw". There are thousand of large flat screen monitors and projectors in public schools with learning management system software that is not culturally and place-based relevant to so called at-risk youth. Culturally relevant student pencil and crayon refrigerator art is exponentially more powerful to an at-risk child than a professionally created animation that is not perceived as relevant to an at-risk youth's community. AI is a cost effective way to produce animated training videos by non professionally trained teachers, to get at-risk youth reading at grade-level. Best regards!
Wow - this comment is awesome, this is exactly why I am challenging myself, and why learning it is so important. I want to empower teachers, and you are a perfect example of someone who shares my mission. Would you be interested in having a call with me? If so, email me to mdiaz@2danimation101.com with subject line: "You told me to reach you on a UA-cam comment for a chat"
Hello Mark, Long time no contact. Good to see you are still challenging yourself in the Art World. I have the following critiques for your animation. The scenes look very professional in most of the animation. I think your animation is lacking character movements overall. In the first scene where the knight is walking across the city scape, there is allot of character movement (His arms are swinging, his legs are moving, and his body also has movement.) However i think the problem with the remainder of the animation is that the main character no longer has any body movement, just a little spring action in the fire stairs scene with his clothing. If you had taken as much time to recreate all the scenes with more character movements then I would say it would be much closer to the Kittens. Somehow you need to be able to turn the characters body and head as well which is difficult without additional drawings. If you could accomplish this then I feel you are on the right track. Mike21
Hi Mike21! It's great to hear from you after such a long time. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my animation and provide your valuable critique. I'm really glad that you found some parts of it professional. I'll definitely work on adding more character movements to make it even better. For the next challenge I will focus on Character Expression - and yes, part of the feedback I got was that it was more like a Motion Comic, and not so much an animation. You are absolutely right, thanks.
For the facial microexpressions you could use motion capture & feed it that information w/ it's complete development of motion so when a story calls for a said emotion, etc it will recall source material.
This was a great video. Fun and entertaining while learning some valuable lessons along the way. The most important lessons were to challenge ourselves, taking chances and be willing to learn if we don't win. The other is seeing first hand in having others review it. Even though it was a fun video, it was a great example in demonstrating the importance in not letting yourself feel so defeated and find that sense of humor in it. Bacon sounds like a yummy trade off. 😊 And congratulations to Aditya for your win 💸. This was an awesome video Mark. I love your creative ways in teaching, giving so much in encouraging and challenging us to keep at it. I'm so grateful for your videos. It may be taking me a little longer to get to where I'm going, but I'm grateful for videos like this to help on the journey.
YEY! Thanks so much Debbie! I am looking forward to seeing your work, you have been a student with us for some time, and would be awesome to see your animations.
Great video with storytelling. I'm still in conflict with myself about AI. I tried it al but AI it don't give me the same satisfaction then creating my own drawings. AI is the same evolution just like photoshop for painting was. when artist use photoshop the tradition painters called them cheaters. love your video and your 2D Animation 101 courses .greetz Pascal Teunissen
Thanks so much Pascal for your comment and support. Yep, I agree, there is some satisfaction about doing things on your own. What do you think of the idea I propose in this video, of allowing people with no drawing skills to create PRO animations? I am interested in your reply
@@2DAnimation101 I think it's a great thing. It give you a great tool for your animation journey. it really can give fast result and very good looking animation. it give people with great storytelling skils but with no art skill a great chance to visualize their story's
I have a feeling the voters had a pretty big bias against AI in general, so I wouldn't really say this challenge was fair. However the main issue here is not much the AI but the general way the story is animated. Cartoon animator for all the powerful tools it provides, also needs a lot of finetuning not to make the movement look "floaty" (and probably for the sake of wrapping everything up fast enough you decided to just use the base rigging and timeline tools). While some of the fantasy creatures look "off" because of the difference in style, the shield on the map is the major thing "out of place" as it looks like a stock image just slapped onto that map. AI can do a lot more in for animation but you have to be willing to put in the work.

Very good in substance and form. Thanks for sharing this. I don't agree with the judges! It's a plot !🤣
Hi Mark the story is engaging and I watched the whole thing.I just think that people needs to embrace AI and its potential and work with it.At the end of the day we will still need animators.
Yuliya! Helloooo! Honestly this was a “good failure” - the thing was that I set a really high standard and was not able to fulfill it. That is not a bad thing
The service is not free, but once you pay the monthly fee, Yes - it is royalty free music, you can read more about it here motionarray.com/license/ They have a video explaining it too Basically, you can use it for commercial purposes and monetize.
Halfway through this vid and sooo tempted to click out! For other vids, pleeeease stop rehashing your premise / stakes over and over! we get the premise, this isn't some terrible reality TV people are putting up in the background to half listen to, we're here, we're watching, we get it, just tell the story already!!
Thanks for your feedback! I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. I'll definitely take your suggestion into consideration for future videos.
To be fair ...yes and no!. Only because the contestant was trained and guided through the process!. To a fair degree, most creators, or would be creators, usually have a basic understanding of workflows and tools!. People without that knowledge, usually don't even have the desire to create these types of productions. Except for children, because teens are quite aware of technology, usually ahead of many adults!.🤔💯
Watch the full animation and let me know what you think, do you agree with the Judges?

Glad you enjoyed it! - What would you like to see in the sequel?
Great video. Can you tell us why the last two animators didn't like your animation? It would be great to understand differences in thought. Thank you.

Lol where is the proof that her art was stolen? Every artist is making that claim
I mean it’s a fair claim Instagram and twitter use your art and imagines to train their Ai and its deep within their tos
I think the problem with your animation was that the characters were not alive.
