Her Own Parents Neglected Her For Over A Decade | Lacey Fletcher

  • Hi guys, today’s case is one of the hardest and saddest types for me to discuss as it involves the horrific treatment of someone’s child. I hope Lacey can now rest in peace, and gets justice for the brutal way she was left to die.
I have also been made aware that the term Asperger's syndrome is technically no longer a diagnosis on its own. It is now part of a broader category called autism spectrum disorder (ASD). I apologise if I offended anyone that was not my intention. 🙏🏻
    Thanks for watching ❤️

Just a reminder, these are just my personal thoughts and opinions on the cases discussed. I do my best to make sure the information I talk about is as accurate as possible. Keeping in mind the majority of information shared, comes from multiple sources and I can understand that not 100% will be factual. I try my best and I also try to be as empathetic as possible, but my personality also comes with a side of humour, that’s how I cope! I would never mean to hurt anybody. Absolutely feel free to either correct me, or share further information I may have missed in the comments, that’s what it’s there for! Thank you for all your support and encouragement, it means more than you would ever know. Love you guys!

Hey Brittany! Thank you so much for your kind comment. Means a lot to me - the last thing I would ever want to do is hurt anyone especially a victim. I’m always open to learning and growing. Kind people like you are what makes the world go round! Lots of love to you and your son ♥️♥️♥️

@@ZaraV I believe people forget that our “Autism Parent,” or other titles are not everyone’s experience. As an advocate for the community it is well known that abled individuals may not be aware of the plight of the disabled. The community goal should be to lead, teach and protect, anything less is a disservice of advocacy. Be well!

I don't wish ill on the youtuber but your son being autistic doesn't mean you get to speak for OUR community. Autistic people get to speak for autistic people. You don't get to decide what is and isn't okay.
I assume this is in reference to 4:00 where she uses the nazi term Aspergers. Telling her it is a nazi term is what people SHOULD do. That is educating people on how to be an ally to us autistic people. (like also using the term "autistic people" instead of "people with autism", since that is preferred by the majority of us)

Something tugs me about those parents. It feels like they were abusing her in secret and then it amplified somehow and so they kept her home. She may have copied by closing in entirely and basically becoming a shell. I really think they directly caused absolutely everything.

    • @Tesko91
      @Tesko91 2 роки тому +31

I was thinking the same, this goes far beyond neglect, they must have hated their child to treat her that way. Sadly the full extent of their abuse will probably never be revealed.
Truly heartbreaking and disgusting. I hope they get life without parole.

I 100% agree. There has to have been some sort of parental abuse happening and it escalated and they kept her at home to hide it
      Her parents are 100% responsible
Also why was she only wearing a tshirt with her breasts exposed? That makes me wonder if there was some sort of humiliation or sexual abuse happening

They have no excuse for this. I worked at a nursing home previously and we had a woman who was too much for her parents to care for. She was extremely disabled. We took great care of her and they came to see her often. There are places that can provide care when you can't anymore. There are so many resources!!!

When I was a CNA we had to turn/adjust people every 2 hours who were bed ridden or had limited mobility - even at night. It didn't matter how big the patient was. If the patient was with it mentally I had to explain how important it was for me to move them and convince them to let me roll them over. The only time we stopped doing this was when they were elderly and literally hours from dying. It is so important to move people! That poor woman.

I've worked in care homes and it's vital to turn those that are bedridden every couple of hours. It's important to let those know, who have capacity, that you're moving them so they don't get sores. I've seen sores on the elderly that couldn't be prevented as they were very old, but we still got nurses round to dress the wounds and apply creams.

We cannot understand how this could have happened. We only want Justice for Lacey. Her parents should spend the rest of their lives in prison. We are all eager for their trials. On another note, I have to thank you for the care and grace you gave Lacey in telling her story! It's depressing, yes, but I see and hear about people in far worse situations than I am in.
Those things make me realize that I could be far worse off.
However, autoimmune diseases definitely needs to see some advances in the medical treatment for them.
Everything a specialist has prescribed for me does virtually nothing to help improve my symptoms and/or my quality of life.
The fatigue is the worst as it keeps me from doing even minor things for enjoyment even if I could push myself through the pain to do them.
Unfortunately, long haul Covid sufferers have symptoms that sound suspiciously like an autoimmune disease so, maybe, research for that will help to benefit the millions of autoimmune disease sufferers too.

Considering the fact that she survived for that long, it’s impossible for her to have had locked-in syndrome. If she could only move her eyes, she wouldn’t have been able to eat. Her body could never go on for 12 years without food. People who are locked-in have to be fed via a feeding tube. It’s much more likely that she had such severe anxiety and agoraphobia due to her autism that she literally shut down and couldn’t make herself move. She must have been dealing with unimaginable trauma.

It seems like one day they both just got sick of caring for her and did as little as possible to keep her alive but still went on to live their own normal lives. I used to work in the medical field and I've seen some bad bed sores, I can't imagine the pain she went through. If they didn't want to care for her, they should have admitted her to a hospital or care facility where she would have been taken care of. Obviously since they had previously taken her to the doctor when she was younger, this isn't a case of religious beliefs (where people refuse to seek out medical intervention) so it's baffling to me.

Here's my conception of what happened based on what I've heard:
-Lacey is born with autism, but nevertheless has a relatively normal childhood.
-Going into high school, she begins feeling disconnected from her peers and develops SAD, asking to be removed from public school.
-Her parents never get her treatment for her SAD, on the basis that she was satisfied living a solitary life away from others, and with the hope that she might "grow out of it"
-Around the age of 25, her couch adventure begins and they set up a toilet for her in the living room and begin bringing meals to her on the couch. At this point, they've accepted that things aren't going to change, and rationalize their neglect on the basis that she's an adult and can make her own decisions.
-Twelve years later, perhaps some incident occurs, or they just grow fed up with their daughter, maybe thinking they're getting too old to care for her, they tell her she needs to leave the couch and start taking care of herself. They stop feeding her and cleaning up after her, reasoning that if she wants food or to use the bathroom, these things are accessible to her, she just needs to leave the couch.
-Lacey is either unwilling or unable to leave the couch, resulting in her eating the stuffing and wasting away in her own filth.
-She dies, and due to her parents waiting for her to "stop being stubborn" and leave of her own accord, they fail to notice for 1 or 2 days.
-They call 911 to report her dead, believing they have done nothing wrong.

This is about an hour-hour and a half from me, I'm in New Orleans, these "parents" are despicable. They weren't even originally arrested because they're prominent members of the community. It took public outrage to get them arrested and the community is very unhappy they are out on bond.

    • @jamifooshee5688
      @jamifooshee5688 2 роки тому +2

Yes it did take time to have them arrested but the DA and Sheriff wanted everything clear and not a single thing out of place so it could be presented to the grand jury. Because of their standing in the community, the DA and Sheriff did not want to make a move without that indictment from the grand jury and every bit of evidence they could get to ensure they spend the rest of their lives in prison. Do we in the community agree with them being released on bond… NO! But neither does the Sheriff or DA, but they didn’t get to make that decision so they can’t be blamed for that.

I have a quadriplegic child that requires 24/7 care and it can be exhausting to keep up on everything, but I would surrender my child to the state or put her in a long term care residence before I let her suffer from neglect. There was one time I was so sick with the flu, I could barely get myself out of the bed, but I managed the bare minimum and we got through it. And I struggle with mental and physical illnesses. It can be HARD to get through some days. But I could never live with myself if my neglect harmed my child. That powers me through when things are bad. She's never even had a pressure sore or skin issues at all. There's just no excuse for this. Lacey was an adult at this time, and would have qualified for medicaid being disabled without an income. Its bad enough to have parents, caregivers or just a random person doing this stuff but then to have the ones thats suppose to protect u doing it then there's nowhere for u to go for help. This case just tears me apart, yes numerically she was an adult, but neurologically she was stuck as a child who needed love and an advocate! These were 2 FUNCTIONING PEOPLE, all they had to do years ago is call an ambulance so she could get care and be treated like a human being. These parents were indifferent to her suffering. I read they lived elsewhere and only stopped by occasionally because of the flies, maggots, rodents and stench.
I mean your paralyzed sick child is melting into the couch and you can’t even have compassion to take care of her severe medical needs professionally? They deserve to rot, this child needed them, instead she got a couch.
Mental Illness needs delicately treated yes, but the first step is protecting her so she doesn’t get to this degree if severe, inhumane shape, just like my grandfather with dementia when he was doing strange things we let it go a few days to see if he wasn’t dealing with losing my grandmother or if he needed help and he did, it was so hard admitting our once strapping grandfather was spiraling but as a family we talked, he fought us, but his mental and emotional health were more important than the pushback he gave us. Sometimes people neurologically are going thru something you can’t even begin to comprehend, usually it’s extreme fear, and fear of the unknown of admitting they need help, but if you see something off, DO SOMETHING! Even if your guess is wrong check up on the people you love, heck even on your neighbors that may have no one. 😢

ZERO EXCUSES for the LACK of care that they failed to provide for their child.
However, caregiver fatigue is very real but, at the point where a caregiver feels like they can no longer provide adequate care for their loved one, it's time to find alternative care for them.
Whether it's having home care providers and respite care to assist you in your home or by placing them in a reputable long-term care center and going to visit them there.
I am wondering if they were receiving a disability check on her behalf and they knew that they would no longer receive it if she were placed in a facility?
One thing is certain, they clearly neglected even her basic needs in a criminal manner and they deserve to be held accountable for that.
I hope that this precious girl is resting in peace.
Seeing her photos as a young girl is absolutely heartbreaking. 💔
She looks like a happy and carefree little girl without a worry in the world and knowing what she would go through in the last years, days and hours of her life is particularly horrific to think about.

It's not like Lacey's parents were poverty stricken as they were able to post bail to avoid jail. If Lacey was too much for them to handle, they could have placed her in a group home where she could have received adequate care and they could have lived their lives. No excuse for what they did. 😒

I can't even imagine letting this happen.. it makes me so angry
I always get super emotional thinking about my boys short future, sometimes I hate the world but then I think about how well they're taken care of and how different that life could be with a family who can't or won't take care of you 💔

I’m a doctor and I also have never heard of it. A “syndrome” can be just a result of a series of events. Theres “falls” syndrome in eldery patients that maybe fall because they can’t see, or they live in a crowded house, or they have Alzheimer’s, etc. they fall as a result but the causes can be anything. In this case the lockdown syndrome can be the result of a stroke, social anxiety, a broken bone, etc. the lockdown is the result of a primary problem

Thank you! I am not a Dr but was thinking the same thing. Pseudocoma is the result of an actual medical condition

Neurologist here! It’s actually “locked-in syndrome”. The medical term is central pontine myelinolysis. Usually this happens when your sodium drops really low (for example from dehydration) and then corrected too quickly. It definitely is a thing but I am suspicious about her having this diagnosis at all especially if she never had been given this diagnosis by a doctor.

As a disabled mom of 3 adult kids, two of whom are on the spectrum, this absolutely breaks my heart and infuriates me! HOW COULD PARENTS DO THIS?! I will NEVER understand it. The thought that this could happen to anyone who is dependent on others for care makes me realize how unbelievably VULNERABLE we disabled are.
Also, just a side note: *Please understand that I would NEVER EVER defend these ‘parents’ and their hideous actions… I feel that there is no defense of these monsters*
I also know that most parents do post pics of their kids on Facebook, however, I do not, unless I have their express permission. They were all teenagers when I got on Facebook, and I didn’t want to post pics of them without asking first. Same with my nieces and nephew. If I have pics of them, I always ask my brother and SIL beforehand. So, just the fact that they didn’t post poor Lacey’s pics doesn’t necessarily mean anything, or else I’d be looked at suspiciously, as well. Just a thought.♥️♥️

I'm autistic as well and I've certainly gone into darkness, but god. how can you watch her rot away and suffer and not even try and do something? The pain has to have been unbearable.
Even if she wouldn't move willingly, there are services out there to HELP for a reason. Instead they lie and didn't do anything, i cant imagine that they really cared that much.
