The Star was designed just prior to 1910. Astonishing run. It was the yachting keelboat class for Olympic sailing for most of time until very recently. There were a few Olympics starting in the sixties that used the Tempest class boats. The Star handles weather quite well and is still raced regularly around the world. She set the mark for one-design regattas. These racers in the video are really pushing the limits though. Modern foiling boats are much more temperamental and simply won't race when conditions are difficult. That's why hydro-foiling boats don't win long global races. They can't sit out for a day when the weather is unagreeable, so they break.
Impressive sailing there. Just did my first Star regatta (North Americans), and loved it. Very challenging class with some extremely talented sailors.
Great footage of challenging conditions. Wind, water and sails is music enough
Paul Elvstrom once wrote about his French pickup crew "Pierre always understood the paddle".
Звездник в такую погоду выходит на глиссирование, за бортом стоит рёв.
hard conditions!
Das ist segeln in höchster Vollendung und tollen Bedingungen..
Лихой ветер! Парни в пол грота едут
lousy day to be a star class yachtsman
Хорошо дует, не правда ли?
Puuh.
