Very cool analysis Federico! The selection of actions does not give a realistic idea of the 1000 times I was hit😂. Really nice sparring, and love this format!

I will do my best to remember to always extend the arms first. I appreciate the insight from the commentary - thank you

I struggled with this as well, for quite a long time. I was thinking ''to hit my opponent, I must get closer, so I need to move my legs first''. But when you consider the historical context, leading with the sword makes more sense: if you're fighting for your life, your sword is your offensive weapon, but also your defence. It's a sturdy piece of steel, it can withstand a lot of damage, while your body is vulnerable and made of flesh. That's why the sword should always move first, and the body follows ;)

Very cool analysis, Fede. Nice getting into your mind a bit. I'm glad that you started talking about Gonzalo's footwork around 9:30, I was noticing how good it was early in the video.

This kind of analysis is excellent, please do many more! It would be amazing if you could have your opponent also provide their comments and thoughts on the same actions.

That exchange at 13:45 was beautiful! Straight out of a movie if they were to use more realistic fighting.

One thing that i wanted to say Fede, is that in many occasions i see hema fencers land their longsword thrusts taking a whole step with the lead foot landing the rear foot forwards, is that done to get more reach for the thrust?
In my case i land it similar to a rapier thrust, extending my lead foot forwards and then landing it on the concrete.
I think that would be called a short range thrust, but for me it's enough to reach my opponent.

It depends from reach but also by the fact that Longsword fencers can’t sit completely bladed in their fighting stance, so stepping instead of lunging gets preferable many times. Lunging is useful to land cuts on the arms for example. It’s a slightly shorter measure control tool.
