I believe it is because one was wrong in God's love and nature. Canute loses faith in a loving God when he sees only cruelty around him, and then he choose power to force the world to change. Thorfinn, though, after a life of revenge, glimpses the goodness in people and rediscovers his faith. For Canute, God seems absent; for Thorfinn, God lives in moments of peace, hinting that maybe salvation isn't in changing the world, but in changing oneself. Funnily enough, changing oneself is changing the world.
@@john-man7191I like to think that after Canute and Thorfinns conversation on Ketils farm Thorfinn planted a seed in Canute that helps him find peace and reconcile with his faith again. I absolutely loved seeing the Christian themes in the show as a Christian
even though Thorfinn rejects religion as a whole while on Canute's boat, telling his soon to be assistants that "isn't it all a little far fetched?" He brought up a good point about not trusting three crones on determining Ragnarök or valhalla. I would say Vinland goes out of its way to say religion is a farce.
It uses Christianity But it does not follow the same principles Canute in ep 19 came to a half conclusion of what thorfin did in S2 And both of them require to denounce that humans only achieve true love once they are dead Both thorfin and Canute are against this and wanna make a paradise for people who are both suffering and caused the suffering Thorfin understands bible in S2 but based on what we know Both Canute and thorfin are more of a neitschian than Christian It's exactly what neitsche wanted Something that denounces Christianity and takes it's good parts and moves even higher I won't say they are anti christ but they for sure went against the Christianity
If you say god is not real, there is an arguable dispute. However, to say Jesus is not real or did not exist goes against history... No historian of today would say Jesus never existed, historians of that era vouched for his existence. What you should be arguing is whether or not he came back to life 3 days later, not saying nonsense like the historical Jesus never lived.
It funny how Canute rejected God and Thorfinn is now drawn to God....
