      It's up to you. I'm personally a buy and hold investor so I very rarely sell. It's how I've grown some of my accounts to hundreds of thousands of dollars. But sometimes (rarely) I also do short term investing. In those cases if I'm up a lot then I might sell off my initial investment and leave everything else in there or sell off my initial investment and some of the profits then leave the rest in there.
      When you a sell a stock the money gets deposited into your Cash App balance. I made a video breaking down the selling process here: ua-cam.com/video/9cFvgJWa108/v-deo.html

    I realize this is common knowledge but everyone should also be aware that you’ll pay higher taxes on short term capital gains meaning any profit from a stock that you own for less than one year. Just something to keep in mind before you start trading stocks like it’s a casino game.

      I don't plan on selling for another 20+ years. If you need to sell off investments to pay for your daily expenses then I'd hope you're already retired. If you're investing to pay the bills you have this month then you shouldn't be investing right now. Investing is to grow your money over the long term, your job is to pay for the expenses you have today.

    What is the best stock to invest in

  • @jamie5878
    @jamie5878 3 роки тому +1

    Alright so buying and selling stocks. Say you buy a stock for $3 and the stock goes down, do you only loose $3? And say it went down to 0 but went up again do I still gain? Also when it comes to selling a stock, you sell it when it’s up right? And, if i invest only 3 dollars and it goes down it won’t charge me right? It just takes the 3?

    • @ImprovedMoney
      @ImprovedMoney  3 роки тому +4

      It's very unlikely that the price per share will go to $0 unless the company completely went out of business.
      Yes, if you're going to sell then you'd want to try to do it when it's up. I personally recommend trying to keep your money invested for as long as possible because that'll give it a better chance to grow. It won't charge you if the stock goes down because you can never lose any more than you put in.

  • @ADeepestThought

    Does the stock go back up based on the dividend amount lost, or the original amount invested?

    • @ImprovedMoney
      @ImprovedMoney  9 місяців тому +2

      The stock price drops by the dividend amount (when it's paid) because that money is leaving the company's bank account to pay the investors. Sometimes dividends feel like "free money" but it's not at all.

    So, if a company’s stock is high right now like Tesla @ ^7.84% (at the moment of my comment) it is or isn’t a good idea to buy stock?

    • @ImprovedMoney
      @ImprovedMoney  3 роки тому +1

      Deciding whether or not a company is too expensive is going to be different for everyone. I personally think Tesla has a very bright future, but I'm not buying the stock right now because I believe it's too high. Someone else might look at Tesla and think it has room to grow though so they might be willing to purchase it at this time.
      Since I invest most of my money into an index fund ETF like VTI I technically already own Tesla stock, but I wouldn't be willing to purchase the stock on it's own.

    • @ImprovedMoney
      @ImprovedMoney  3 роки тому +1

      You'd only lose the full $3 if the stock went to $0. While this is possible, it very very rarely happens if you're investing in non-penny stocks. I have hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in the stock market so when my investments are down they're down a lot...but I don't sell so it doesn't matter. In March and April my investments were down 10's of thousands of dollars, but because I kept the investments and didn't sell (and continued to invest even though I was down money), they have recovered and I've made a lot of money now.
      Buy the investments and just hold onto them. Start out buying Index Fund ETF's like VTI. The vast majority of my money is invested in VTI and VOO.

    So for example on Spotify you only spent 10 dollars on it so far and won 5.37 so far right so does that mean If I had spent over 100 dollars in Spotify around the time my gain would go a lot higher since it was at 51.70 at the time??

    • @ImprovedMoney

      That's correct. The amount your investment has earned is proportional to the amount you initially invested.

    So will I lose more money than I put in? Is that possible? Like if I buy a 10 dollar stock and it goes down is there a chance I owe more than that initial 10?

      Depends what you buy and how long you hold it for. I personally invest in low cost broad based ETFs like VTI and plan to hold it for 20+ years. For me, I'll most likely make money. For people investing in other things, who knows

    What is the approximate stock price what does that mean

    • @ImprovedMoney
      @ImprovedMoney  3 роки тому +1

      That's the price they're expecting your investment to sell at once the market opens back up and your trade goes through. It's usually be a little higher or lower based on where the price is at that point in time so that amount will just give you an idea of around where it should sell at.
