I worked for a place that had propane delivery trucks - years ago. I remember them saying that they had to change some sort of gaskets because propane ran 'hotter' and damaged gaskets. Other than that, I think they were quite happy with the trucks.
I want propane in a van because I would like to branch off to run the appliances all off the same tank - maybe with a reserve tank to make sure I don't strand myself by cooking breakfast, :D

The potential for lower maintenance costs makes propane a popular choice for high-mileage vehicles. Propane's high octane rating, combined with its low-carbon and low oil-contamination characteristics, has resulted in improved engine life compared to conventional gasoline engines. Cold-start problems can often be reduced as well. This is because the fuel's mixture (propane and air) is completely gaseous when entering the engine's combustion chamber, and propane engines do not require an enriched fuel mixture during cold-weather startups the way other, liquid-fueled engines do. Propane has a lower BTU than gasoline but its overall better.

Actually you lose a little mileage if you use LPI (liquid propane injection) or use a vaporizer using hot water from the heater hoses. LPI stays pretty close in MPGs to gasoline. Propane doesn't burn with as much BTU as gasoline. SO you lose a little power too. However at 10,000 miles between oil changes and the fact that LP engines can go a million miles there are savings.

+smithy smith smith Its also a byproduct of the petroleum industry, its separated from the fuel along with other gases so it isn't really a standalone alternate energy source, just another branch of the same industry.
Until we start moving away form these non-renewable energy sources we pay for instead of self sustaining and renewable sources we don't have to constantly refuel the climate affect and our industry won't change.
I mean its only several years off because we aren't dedicating all our resources to the next power source, if the petroleum industry was interested in more than just profit they could spend 5% of their wealth and instantly establish solar/wind/hydro pylons in every major city and power our whole goddamn country.

I can confirm that LPG (Propane/Butane; mixture depending on region and season of the year) contamines the engine oil much less! 😃👍
I had it in my '07 Toyota Prius Mk II from 2008 to 2020 or from 42,000 km up to 384,000 km.
The engine oil was new and clear like cooking oil after 15,000 km and was moderately dark after 26,000 km.
LPG (port injection) makes the engine run smoothly and even more silently. 😉

It's hardly difficult to get, although it does take a *little* bit of planning if you're going on a trip (you only get 500 kms per tank, and nowheresville with just 1 station probably won't have a propane station). Of course, you can keep the gas system installed and select, so you can still get back home in those cases.

In your country you must still have leaded gasoline and most cars using it, because that's about the last time VSR happened due to propane. As for 25% fewer mpg, absolutely true with a carbed system. With an injection system, closer to 15%. Propane here is under half the price of gasoline. Even if it were the same price, I'd buy it over gas because it's cleaner AND has severely reduced road taxes. Always feels nice to give uncle sam fewer $.

One litre of gasoline contains the energy equivalent to 8.9 kWh of electricity
1 Litre of propane = 7.08 kWh (kilowatt hours)
Hence 1litre of propane has 7.08/8.90= 0.7955056179775=+-80%of the energy that gasoline has. So, unless propane is considerably cheaper than 80% of the price of gasoline it’s a no brainer that there is nothing to be gained. Also consider the conversion cost, loss of power under full acceleration (-20%!) and that huge tank you have to stick somewhere there are more cons to pros to running propane. I had a dual fuel system car and finally ripped it out.
I live in Canada and just called a local fuel station that carries auto propane. Feb 6 2021: Propane $1.09/liter. Regular Gasoline $1.32/liter, 1.09/1.32=.828=82.8%. It now costs more to run on propane than gasoline and idiots up there keep saying how much less it cost to use propane but they never do the math to figure out costs per kilometer. That money you want to spend on converting to propane can be much better spent on beer.

Your the idiot if you think fleet vehicles are being converted for no savings, I converted my motorhome to propane and was getting 7mpg now on propane its closer to 10mpg. because of the higher octane engine compression and spark advance makes it more powerful 240hp compared to 300hp now. Even though it is less energy dense it still offered savings since it was 40% cheaper then gasoline. I figure then it was about a 13% savings in fuel taking in account the energy density. Yes technically you can, but what is more important, you should do the maths first so as to go for it or not😊

There is not infrastructure for propane, and it is expensive you said 30% less that petro, rarely? Lets convert all current petro machinery to propane and see demand and supply ratio, and then compare the price, I do not what I am talking about, but feels like it I am analyzing right.

I’ve heard you need a special license to drive a propane vehicle
Is there any truth to that

ROUSH Cleantech may be able to answer that question better. Most propane conversions they do are buses and fleet vehicles, which do require varied licenses.

@@RoushPerformance Quick question, so if I bought a used propane powered mini bus, and utilized as a personal recreation vehicle (Camper) per se .. would I need a special license to KEEP and DRIVE the vehicle?

Whoa ! hold your horses ! Back this train up. About 3 minutes into the video, you claimed propane reduces carbon monoxide emissions by 60%. Is that 60% less then a gasoline engine ?
Gasoline engines with modern emission controls do not produce ANY carbon monoxide at all. It may produce a carbon dioxide, which is an inert, harmless gas necessary for plant life, and some water vapor. Carbon monoxide was from the old dinosaur cars of several generations ago. Produced by a car that was not properly maintained and tuned.

Complete and utter false information right there. In the UK, loads of cars have been running on LPG (propane) for well over a decade now, and 'getting heat out of them' is zero problem. ROUSH is one of the world's leading tuning companies. You really think they'd fit these systems if they didn't work? No.
