- Is it a tradition, or is it a fact of life at the Indianapolis 500? Every year when you show up for Race Day, pit lane is lined with stencils signifying each driver's pit box. On this episode of Behind the Bricks, Doug Boles investigates the origins of the stencil work and shows you how we bring this to life each and every May.

Your true enthusiasm and passion come thru in these little historical gems that are being produced. As a long time fam of IMS and Indy Car, I love it. Keep on truckin.
Very cool to see the vintage footage and photos! Great and informative video as always
So much history and tardition since 1911 great video!
Would be cool to special order our own customized Pit Lane Decal from the website :)
I never even thought about it before. Very interesting. 🙂
love all of the behind the scenes videos! Doug Boles has possibly been the best thing that's happened to IMS. Great content.
Great Stuff!
RIP Scotty Brayton
I spent all of qualifying weekend there and met everyone in the pits, garages. Best experience in my life. Met Doug, TR, AJ, Mario, essentially every driver and most for over a few min. Then Paul Page!!! Talked to him for half an hour sitting on the wall, I wasn't even allowed that close. Checked that one off the list!!!
I'd love to see more manufacturers competing against one another again, as well as something other than a Corvette Pace Car.
Even tho I love Corvette, I agree
I always assumed that the teams were responsible for the signage in their pits. Love these informative chats, Doug. Thanks! Nice suit, BTW. 😉👍
They do a great job witht his series
What happens to the decals after the race? Charity auction?
That's cool, graphics are inhouse.
My dad was one of the many sign painters that did lettering on the cars from the early 70s to early 90s, so seeing another job lost to time to printers really sucks. Indy is about tradition, some things should remain traditionally done. Paint it.
Hmmm.. had no idea that Stephen Colbert was into auto racing ??
Fascinating history and imagery from the past, appreciate the reverence but disappointed in the contemporary version using printed vinyl. It’s obvious IMS cares about its own heritage, why not honor that with something hand painted?
Time, staffing, cost, consistency, ability, 21st century..act like it.
Probably pick one or all.
Steven Colbert's twin ; - like
I was going to comment this, but I wanted to check to see if anyone else had. You beat me to it.
