The tradition of the Groom carrying the Bride over the threshold was explained by the Professor of my College Humanities class:
In ancient days, even predating the Romans, the graves of family elders were dug all around the perimeter of the home, thereby ritually "surrounding" the home with the spirits who would guide (perhaps in dreams), guard (against harm to the family,) and protect the residents from unwholesome influences.
The two areas of the home were defined as the "Sacra" (as in sacred, or inside the house,) and "Profana" or unblessed, unsanctified areas outside the walls of the home.
By carrying the Bride OVER the threshold, the Groom was "introducing" his Bride to the spirits, or Manes of the ancestors, thereby sanctifying the marriage and gaining acceptance of the Bride by the ancestors.
In far Eastern cultures, the bride and groom live with his parents so she can learn to run a household efficiently and wisely. The mother in law mentors the wife, which provides continuity of family and religious rituals, helps bond the family together, and supports the couple through the first, (sometimes uncertain) years.
It's actually a nice way to begin married life!

May and June are popular months for weddings in the United States also. One difference is the Civil ceremony and the church ceremony are done at the same time. The ministers are recocognized by the county or state as a justice of the peace and with the signature of 2 witnesses., usually the best man and maid of honor (unmarried woman) or Matron of honor (married woman). They are able to perform the legal process of performing a marriage. I penny in the brides shoe is a custom also, the throwing of the boutique is also a custom in the United States. Something old, something new, something borrowed & something blue. Is also done. My wife borrowed her mom's wedding dress, which was also the something old,, the new was the vaile not sure if I spelled that right. (Head covering) the blue was a garter she wore on her upper leg, which sometimes gets auctioned off at the after party to the groomsmen or other male attendees. We didn't do that, I've seen where that has gotten rather vulger. Anyway moving on, especially in the Midwestern part of the United States there is a large population of German ancestry from generations ago that still follow many German traditions. My wife's family is German and Swedish and mine is German, Irish and English and we are both from the North Dakota & Minnesota region of the United States. Ja you betcha, don't you know, uff dah.

We have the dollar dance in the USA. We form 2 lines. One for the bride another for the groom. Then you pay a dollar to dance with them

Similar to the money in the bride's shoe, in Britain it's traditional to put a sixpence in the bride's left shoe.
